The time savings are practical rather than measured: Google does not publish a figure for minutes saved or a guaranteed identification accuracy.
What you need to use Google Lens
You can use Lens with a live camera view or an existing image. On Android, one documented route is to open a photo in Google Photos, tap More, then tap Google Lens. Lens is also available through other Google apps and devices, though the entry point varies. Google’s overview puts the idea simply: “Not sure how to describe something in words? Six useful things to scan with Lens
1. Business cards
Point Lens at a business card to capture its phone number or address and save the details to a contact. It’s a handy way to avoid retyping information after a meeting or introduction. Check the contact fields before saving, especially if the card has several numbers or addresses.

2. Event flyers and billboards
Scan a poster or billboard to add an event to your calendar. That can spare you from manually entering the date and other details. Review the event information Lens extracts before adding it; a blurry image or small print can make details harder to read.

3. Book covers
Scan a book cover to find a summary and reviews. This is useful when you’re browsing a shelf and want quick context before deciding whether to read the book or look it up further.
4. Landmarks and buildings
Lens can surface information about landmarks, restaurants, and storefronts, including details such as ratings and hours. Scan a building when you want historical context or need to check whether a place is open. Confirm current hours with the business or another reliable source before making a special trip.

5. Paintings in a museum
Scan a painting to learn about its artist and find a starting point for further reading. Treat Lens as a supplement to the museum’s label or interpretation, not a replacement for it; the label may offer context specific to the work or exhibition.

Scan a barcode to look up product information, including where a product may be available to buy. Lens can also scan QR codes. Check that a result refers to the exact product and version you have, particularly before relying on compatibility or other specifications.

Other quick Lens uses
The same camera-to-search approach can help when you need to copy text from a sign, note, paragraph, or serial number, or translate text on a menu or sign. Google says translations are available in more than 100 languages on its product page; availability and results can depend on language and region. Lens can also find similar apparel, furniture, and home decor, identify plants and animals, explore places, and help with homework. Google’s Lens overview, Android help, and the Google Play listing describe these capabilities.
When to verify a Lens result
Google’s feature descriptions explain what Lens can do, but they do not provide an error rate or guarantee that an identification is correct. Use results as leads, then verify details that matter:

Some Lens features depend on region, language, device, or an internet connection. Shopping results, in particular, are not available everywhere; Google’s Android help page lists supported countries, while the Play listing notes regional and language limitations and internet requirements for some features. Check the relevant Google help page or app listing for your location rather than assuming every feature will work the same way.
