For a tiny workshop, the useful Ryobi tool is the one that handles a recurring job—or reaches a place your existing tools cannot. The six tools in RYOBI’s 18V ONE+ HP Compact Brushless 6-Tool Combo Kit cover general drilling, screw driving, tight-access work, cutting and socket fastening. They are a practical starting lineup, not a must-buy list: choose by the work you actually do, and leave occasional jobs to hand tools, borrowing or a service.
What comes in the compact Ryobi six-tool kit?
RYOBI identifies the 18V ONE+ HP Compact Brushless 6-Tool Combo Kit as model PSBCK06K. Its six tools are a 1/2-inch drill/driver (PSBDD01), 1/4-inch impact driver (PSBID01), cut-off tool (PSBCS02), 3/8-inch right-angle drill (PSBRA02), one-handed reciprocating saw (PSBRS01) and 3/8-inch impact wrench (PSBIW01). The manufacturer’s kit listing also includes two 1.5Ah lithium-ion batteries, a charger, a tool bag and operator manuals, and states a three-year manufacturer warranty. See the PSBCK06K kit listing for the current product details.

Which tools are worth keeping in a small workshop?
1. Compact drill/driver (PSBDD01): the everyday choice
Use a drill/driver for ordinary drilling and controlled fastening: pilot holes, furniture assembly and general workshop jobs. It is the broadest-use tool in this group, so it is often the first cordless tool to justify a dedicated spot. It overlaps with the impact driver for screw fastening, but the two are not interchangeable in feel or control: the drill/driver is the more versatile option when you need to drill or want careful control.
#1 Best Overall
- Ryobi PCL201, PBP002 18V ONE+ Compact Battery, Charger
- 18 Volt Lithium-Ion Drill/Driver with Battery and Charger
- Drill bit set for multipurpose use
- BUHO Tool Bag included
- Ryobi batteries compatible with over 250 different tools
2. Impact driver (PSBID01): for frequent screw driving
An impact driver makes most sense if you routinely drive many screws or work with fasteners that make a drill/driver laborious. It can share screw-driving work with the drill/driver, so a hobbyist who only assembles a project now and then may be better served by one drill/driver and a hand screwdriver. Check that your bits and fasteners suit the task, and use the tool manual for operating guidance.
3. Right-angle drill (PSBRA02): for obstructed access
A right-angle drill earns its place when a conventional drill cannot fit between parts, inside cabinets or in other tight spaces. RYOBI’s product page for the tool-only PSBRA02B describes a 3.6-inch tool with up to 350 in-lbs of torque and two speed ranges, 0–450 and 0–1,700 RPM. Those are manufacturer specifications for PSBRA02B, not independent test results; do not assume they apply to every kit component or model suffix. The PSBRA02B listing says batteries and chargers are sold separately. See the kit page for the PSBRA02 kit listing and the PSBRA02B product page for its stated specifications.

4. One-handed reciprocating saw (PSBRS01): for short rough cuts
A compact one-handed reciprocating saw is useful for quick cut-off, pruning or small demolition tasks where a hand saw is awkward. It is a specialty cutter rather than a substitute for a table saw or a fine woodworking saw. Keep it only if those rough-cut jobs recur; for a rare cut, a hand saw or borrowed tool takes less permanent space. Match the blade to the material and follow the manual’s safety directions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches5. Cut-off tool (PSBCS02): for small, specific cuts
The cut-off tool is intended for compact cutting tasks, but the kit listing alone does not establish which materials or operations suit a particular blade. Before using it, check the PSBCS02 operator manual for the approved material, compatible blade and safety requirements. It may complement a reciprocating saw rather than replace it: the right choice depends on the cut and material, not simply which tool is smaller.

- The usb lithium pivot screwdriver is ideal for all types of screwdriving tasks around the home
- A two finger trigger and ergonomic handle adds comfort and control
- A pivoting mechanism allows for quick change between standard driver stick driver and right-angle driver for easy access to confined areas
- Includes 2 x 25mm screwdriving bits to start your next diy project today
6. Impact wrench (PSBIW01): if you work with socket fasteners
An impact wrench is useful when your regular work involves loosening or tightening fasteners with sockets. It does a different job from an impact driver, which accepts driver bits; for a shop that rarely handles socket fasteners, a hand ratchet may be more space-efficient. Confirm the exact drive size, compatible sockets and intended use in the PSBIW01 documentation before choosing accessories. Do not transfer specifications from another model: RYOBI’s separately listed PSBIW02B is a different model from the kit’s PSBIW01.
How to decide what belongs in your workshop
Before buying or assigning scarce storage, assess each tool against the workbench you have—not the number of tools in a bundle.

- Powerful Variable Speed Motor — Delivers 20,000-30,000 RPM with dial for precise control on trimming and routing tasks
- Ultra Compact & Lightweight — Only 3.2 lbs tool-only; ergonomic design for easy one- or two-handed use in tight spaces.
- Cordless 18V ONE+ Compatibility — Works with any Ryobi 18V battery (not included) for total portability and no cords.
- Precise Depth Adjustment — Micro dial and quick-release lever for fast, accurate settings and easy bit changes.
- Ryobi PCL424B Model — Official 18V ONE+ Compact Fixed Base Router (Tool Only) with dust port and LED light for cleaner, visible cuts.
- Frequency: A tool used weekly is easier to justify than one needed once a year. For an occasional task, consider a hand tool, borrowing or hiring help.
- Access and footprint: A short head or unusual shape can solve a genuine reach problem. Check whether the tool fits your drawer, shelf or wall storage without blocking more-used equipment.
- Overlap: Decide whether an existing drill, saw or hand tool already covers the task well enough. The drill/driver and impact driver overlap most in fastening; the two cutters serve different kinds of cuts.
- Setup burden: Count the batteries, charger, bits, blades, sockets and dust-control accessories the job needs. A tool that requires a pile of seldom-used accessories may not save space overall.
- Bundle fit: The PSBCK06K listing includes two 1.5Ah batteries and a charger. A separately sold tool-only product may require a compatible battery and charger, so compare the complete setup rather than the bare tool.
- Material and safety: Verify that the tool and accessory are intended for the material and operation. Use the exact model’s manual; do not infer compatibility from a similar-looking tool.
An optional woodworking addition: compact router
The RYOBI PBLRR01B compact router is not one of the six tools in the PSBCK06K kit. It is worth considering only if you regularly trim edges, make small profiles or do related routing work. RYOBI specifies a 1/4-inch collet and a speed range of 15,000–30,000 RPM; its kit description lists an edge guide, collet wrench and vacuum dust adapter. Those are manufacturer specifications and listed accessories for PBLRR01B, not a general measure of routing performance. See the PBLRR01B product page. If routing is infrequent, the router, bits and dust-control setup may not earn their storage space.
