If 5G is missing on your Samsung Galaxy, check coverage, your exact phone model, plan and account eligibility, SIM, and network mode. Why your Samsung phone may not connect to 5G
5G requires more than a 5G-capable phone. The carrier must offer compatible 5G service where you are, your specific Galaxy model and market variant must work with that network, your plan and account must be eligible, and your SIM must be compatible. The phone’s network mode must also allow 5G. Samsung notes that a device may use LTE/4G or 3G when 5G is unavailable, so a fallback can be normal rather than a fault. Check these causes in order
1. Confirm 5G coverage where you are
Coverage depends on the carrier and location. Check with your carrier about service at the place you are using the phone, including the route or area where the problem occurs. If 5G is not available there, the Galaxy may show LTE/4G or 3G instead. Samsung Singapore explains this fallback behavior.

Find the phone’s exact model number and confirm with the carrier that this model and market variant support its 5G network. The Galaxy name alone is not enough to establish compatibility: support can differ among models and regional variants. Samsung’s general guidance confirms that multiple Galaxy models support 5G, but it cannot determine whether an unspecified phone is compatible. Check Samsung’s 5G support information and ask the carrier about the exact model.

3. Check plan and account eligibility
Ask the carrier whether the specific plan includes 5G access and whether the account has a service or provisioning issue. A compatible phone and nearby coverage do not by themselves confirm that the line is enabled for 5G. Samsung’s US guidance identifies plan and service eligibility as factors to check.
4. Ask whether the SIM is compatible
Some older SIM cards may not support 5G. Samsung advises using the SIM supplied with the device or a 5G-compatible SIM from the carrier. Ask the carrier whether your current SIM is eligible and whether it needs replacement or reprovisioning; do not assume that buying a generic SIM will fix the issue. Make sure the network mode includes 5G
If the phone is set to a mode that excludes 5G, it will not use 5G even when the other conditions are met. Menu names and available choices vary by model, software version, and market. Samsung’s US instructions say to open Settings, search for Network mode, and select an option that includes 5G or GLOBAL. Samsung Gulf gives this regional example: Settings > Connections > Mobile Network > Network Mode, then choose a mode that includes 5G. Use the wording available on your device rather than assuming every Galaxy has identical menus. US instructions · Gulf instructions.
Restart, check for updates, then contact the carrier
- Restart the Galaxy. Samsung recommends a restart as a troubleshooting step. Check the connection again after the phone starts.
- Check for a software update. Samsung Gulf recommends checking for updates. An update is a reasonable device-specific check, not a guaranteed fix for every 5G problem.
- Contact the carrier if 5G remains unavailable. Ask it to check coverage at your location, your plan and account eligibility, the exact phone model, SIM compatibility, and line provisioning. - Your location when 5G fails, and whether the phone connects to LTE/4G or 3G there.
- Your plan name and whether the carrier confirms 5G access on the line.
- Whether the carrier has confirmed the SIM and account provisioning are eligible for 5G.
- The network mode shown in Settings and whether restarting changed the connection.
These checks identify what needs attention without assuming a purchase or repair is necessary.
