What the library contains—and what those numbers mean
In my 2026 account, I described the project as a free harm-reduction library with 563 drug profiles, 61 guides about dangerous combinations, hotline listings for nine regions, an identification-video library, and content in nine languages. These are my reported figures, not independently audited counts. I also described the hotline listings as verified, but did not document a verification method, review dates, or how entries are corrected.

The project is meant to answer searches about drug identification, dangerous combinations, and quitting timelines with organized educational material rather than forum speculation. I cited searches such as “what does fentanyl look like” and “can you mix Xanax and alcohol.” I said Search Console showed “huge query volume,” but did not provide figures, a date range, or a measurement method, so that description should not be treated as a quantified audience statistic.
I described the site as educational and intended for overdose prevention, not as medical or legal advice. I said its public-data sources include NIDA, DEA, EMCDDA/EUDA, WHO, and CDC. My account did not establish how each entry is sourced, reviewed, dated, or corrected, so the technical design below should not be read as validation of the library’s drug guidance.

How the static content is generated
Python data files to HTML
A dependency-free Python script, build.py, reads data_*.py files and generates the site’s HTML. I reported approximately 1,100 generated pages across profiles, guides, comparisons, and data pages in the 2026 case study. The count is approximate and author-reported, not a measurement independently checked against a live deployment.
Generated pages include JSON-LD for MedicalWebPage, FAQPage, and BreadcrumbList. The build also produces sitemaps with lastmod values and bidirectional hreflang clusters. These describe what the generator emits; they do not demonstrate that search engines accept the markup, index every page, or rank the content as intended.
Why generate pages instead of rendering everything in the browser?
The reported design makes the page set a build output while leaving room for updates through an admin interface. That separates the bulk of the site’s published HTML from the content-editing workflow. It also introduces two representations to keep aligned: generated seed content and any later edits held in KV.

How edits fit into the static-site model
I described a PIN-protected /admin panel backed by a Pages Function, with HMAC-token authentication. Pages Functions serve static files directly when a matching file exists; hydrate.js then overlays admin edits from KV. If an item has no corresponding static file, it is rendered client-side. For content that exists in both places, the KV version takes precedence over the seed data.
This gives the project an editing route without turning every page into a server-rendered page. It also makes the fallback behavior important: a static page can be delivered first and then hydrated with an edit, while a missing static item depends on client-side rendering. My account describes that implementation, but does not provide an independent security review of the PIN or token setup, nor details about access controls beyond those stated.
How page-specific search metadata is added
A shared _seo.js helper strips the generic shell head and injects item-specific title, description, canonical, hreflang, and Open Graph tags at the edge. I said this was intended to prevent dynamic pages from appearing to search engines as duplicates of the homepage. That is the project’s rationale, not a verified search-engine outcome; no indexing or ranking results were reported.

How translation and review work
The reported translation workflow calls Workers AI’s @cf/meta/m2m100-1.2b model through a /api/translate endpoint. The endpoint translates 60 short strings per call, and the results are merged into language packs during the build.

As I put it, “Machine translation is the draft, not the final word.” My account did not name reviewers, show language-specific quality results, or explain a validation method. The reported count of nine languages therefore describes the project’s scope, not demonstrated translation accuracy or equivalent coverage in every language.
How identification videos are delivered
I reported keeping each identification clip below 3 MB, storing video as binary KV values, and serving it through a Pages Function that honors HTTP range requests so a browser can scrub through a clip. The stated reason for this design was to avoid an R2 bucket and a separate video host.

That is a project-specific design choice, not a general capacity recommendation. My account does not establish current service limits, storage or request usage, or whether this approach remains suitable as a video library or audience grows. A deployment adopting it would need to check its own current plan limits and actual workload.

Concurrent edits damaged the generator
I reported that concurrent edits to one source file corrupted the generator and duplicated content. Recovery used a raw GitHub file and the last known-good commit. My operational takeaway was to keep generated output in Git and push frequently, so both source and build results have a recoverable history.

Cached assets did not always appear to update
I also found that edge caching made asset changes appear stale. For this project, I recommended updating version pins for assets and the service-worker cache when those assets change. For re-uploaded videos that reuse a filename, my recommendation was max-age=3600, must-revalidate rather than a year-long immutable cache. Those are lessons from this implementation, not universal performance guarantees.

What the free-tier claim does—and does not—show
My 2026 case study says the project runs on Cloudflare’s free tier. It does not report measured requests, storage use, current plan limits, or a tested point at which the workload stops fitting. The account therefore supports a narrow claim about the deployment as described, not a promise that the current free tier can support a comparable library for every operator.
The broader lesson is architectural rather than financial: static generation handled the large page set, KV and a Pages Function supported edits, edge-injected metadata handled per-item SEO fields, a translation endpoint created drafts, and a function served small range-enabled videos. Each component addresses a different job, while the evidence for the implementation remains my first-person account rather than an independent audit.
