A VPN might improve a particular route between your internet provider and an Apex Legends data center, but it can also add latency. There is no evidence here that one VPN is the fastest for Apex Legends: the five options below are an editorial shortlist, not a tested ranking. Before paying, check your connection without a VPN and compare the results on your own setup.
Can a VPN lower ping in Apex Legends?
Sometimes, if your internet provider’s route to a game data center is inefficient or gaming traffic is being throttled. A VPN sends traffic through an additional server, though, so it may increase latency or make the route less stable instead. The outcome depends on your location, provider, VPN server, game data center, and connection conditions.

ExpressVPN says, “A VPN can help reduce lag in some cases,” referring to situations such as ISP throttling or a better route. That is the provider’s claim, not an independent test result. A VPN cannot improve frame rate (FPS), which depends on your device’s hardware. ExpressVPN’s Apex Legends page
EA defines ping as the round-trip time for game data to travel between your platform and a data center, measured in milliseconds. Packet loss is the share of packets that fail to complete that trip; either high ping or packet loss can cause lag. EA’s general guidance says Apex ping is typically 50–150 ms, under 100 ms should run well, below 50 ms is particularly good, and above 100 ms may bring lag. These are general benchmarks, not a guarantee for every player, region, route, or mode. EA’s ping, packet-loss, and lag guidance
#1 Best Overall

Fix the connection you have before choosing a VPN
Use the same connection conditions when comparing a VPN with no VPN. Otherwise, a change in Wi-Fi signal, congestion, or game server can look like a VPN effect.
- Turn on the in-game measurements. In Apex Legends, open Settings > Gameplay and enable Performance Display. Note latency and packet loss during play. EA’s instructions
- Choose the nearest data center. From the game’s title screen, open the data-center selection and choose the closest location. EA warns that a farther data center can increase ping and packet loss because data travels farther. EA’s guidance on data centers
- Check for service issues. If every data center is performing poorly, check EA’s server status and official updates before changing network settings. EA’s troubleshooting guidance
- Try a wired connection if available. Shared or weak Wi-Fi can contribute to connection problems. EA says, “Hardwired connections can be much more reliable than wireless ones.” If your device supports Ethernet, a cable is an optional way to try a wired connection—not a guarantee of lower ping. EA’s connection troubleshooting
- Reduce local network competition. Close unnecessary background applications, check whether others are heavily using the shared connection, and improve router placement if Wi-Fi is weak. EA identifies these as possible contributors to connection issues. EA’s connection troubleshooting
Five VPNs to consider, without a performance ranking
The options below are candidates to investigate, not recommendations based on Apex ping tests. The available evidence does not establish a defensible five-provider speed ranking or product-specific Apex performance for each service. Check current official documentation for your platform and region, then compare actual latency, packet loss, jitter, and stability against a no-VPN baseline.
Rank #2
- Beyond-fast WiFi 7 (802.11be) with new 320MHz channels in the 6 GHz band and 4096-QAM significantly increases network capacity and throughput, with speeds of up to 30 Gbps
- Multi-link Operation links to multiple bands at the same time to ensure stable internet connections and efficient data transfers
- Cutting-edge external dual-feeding antennas boost coverage by providing high efficiency and significantly enhanced signal strength
- Maximized wired connectivity and flexibility with dual 10G ports and quad 2.5G ports
- Triple-Level Game Acceleration - The GT-BE98 Pro boosts your PC gaming traffic every step of the way, from your PC gaming port all the way to the game server.
ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN’s dedicated Apex page describes a Windows setup and claims compatibility with PC and consoles; it also lists servers in 113 countries. These are current vendor statements, not independently verified compatibility or evidence that a nearby server will lower your ping. Its page discusses possible benefits in cases involving throttling or a more favorable route, and states that a VPN cannot increase FPS. ExpressVPN’s Apex Legends guidance

Proton VPN
Proton VPN is another possible candidate, but the available material does not establish Apex-specific compatibility, setup requirements, or performance. Check current official documentation for your platform and region.
CyberGhost
CyberGhost may also be considered, but no Apex-specific product claim or measured result is established here. Confirm current platform support and setup details with the provider.
Rank #4
- Tri-band 2.4GHz + 5GHz + 6GHz; latest WiFi 6E supports 8-streams on tri-band simultaneously, up to 6.6Gbps speed
- AI QoS; satisfies all users' needs by automatically prioritizing data packets
- Powerful processor; 1.8 GHz quad core processor delivers ultra fast and reliable connections
- Mystic light; sync RGB light effects with mystic light compatible products
- Game accelerator; provides an uninterrupted WiFi connection for immersive gaming experiences
A fifth provider: compare only after verifying current support
The evidence does not substantiate a fifth provider with current Apex-specific documentation, so naming one as a qualified pick would imply more than is established. If evaluating another service, first verify its official platform instructions and test it yourself; do not treat a provider’s “best for gaming” marketing as a ping result.

How to test whether a VPN helps your route
Compare the VPN and no-VPN connection using the same platform, ISP, game data center, connection type, and approximate time. A single match is not enough to separate a routing effect from normal network or server variation.
Best Value
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Record your platform, ISP, region, selected Apex data center, whether you use Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and the date and time.
- With the VPN off, play several comparable sessions and record latency and packet loss from Performance Display. If possible, also record jitter—the variation in latency—and note disconnects or unstable gameplay.
- Connect the VPN to a server that makes geographic sense for your location and selected game data center. Avoid assuming that the nearest VPN server is automatically the best route.
- Repeat the sessions under comparable conditions and record the same measures. Use a provider’s current official setup guidance for your platform; console and router setup may differ from a Windows app.
- Keep the VPN only if repeated comparisons show a useful improvement without worse packet loss, jitter, stability, or disconnect behavior. If results are mixed, retest later rather than treating one favorable session as proof.
Do not use a VPN to manipulate matchmaking or disguise your location to gain access to an EA service. A provider’s explanation of EA terms is not a substitute for EA’s own rules. Read the applicable EA terms directly before using a VPN in a way that could affect access or matchmaking. VPN performance and compatibility claims on provider pages are vendor statements, not independent comparative measurements.
