Here are five practical options—though menus and features vary by phone, software version, and vehicle.
1. Turn off wireless Android Auto if you prefer a cable
A wired connection may suit you better if you do not want Android Auto to connect wirelessly. A user reply in the Android Auto Help Community, dated May 4, 2024, describes opening Android Auto developer settings and switching off Wireless Android Auto.

This is a community-reported route, not a universal Google support procedure. The setting’s availability and location may differ by phone and software version. Your car must also support the connection method you want to use. Google’s Android Auto setup guide explains that wired setup uses USB, while first-time wireless setup involves Bluetooth pairing; it recommends keeping Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services on during wireless setup.

3. Check Samsung’s unused-app battery settings if an app disappears
If an app no longer appears in the Android Auto launcher, Samsung’s battery management may have temporarily disabled it because it had not been used recently. Google’s guidance says reopening the app can re-enable it. You can also look in the phone’s battery settings for Auto disable unused apps or Put unused apps to sleep.

Menu names and availability vary. If you cannot find the option, check with your phone maker. Google’s guide to apps missing from the Android Auto launcher covers this Samsung-specific behavior.
4. Try the voice-control method that works in your car
Google lists three ways to start a voice command: say “Ok Google,” long-press the steering-wheel voice button, or tap the on-screen microphone. After activating voice control, wait for the Android Auto tone before speaking. A steering-wheel press that is too short can exit Android Auto instead.

Which controls work depends on your car’s equipment. See Google’s voice-command and volume guidance if a command does not start as expected.

Some vehicles have separate volume controls for navigation directions, media playback, and voice prompts. If one channel sounds too quiet, adjust that channel rather than assuming there is one Android Auto volume slider. The controls and adjustment method depend on the vehicle; consult its owner’s manual and make changes while parked.

Before changing connection settings
Android Auto is integrated into Android phones, so Google says a separate Android Auto download is not needed. Setup requirements still depend on the connection method and vehicle: check that your specific car supports Android Auto—and wireless Android Auto if that is the route you want—before troubleshooting the phone. Google’s setup instructions cover wired and first-time wireless connections.
