Annual billing is worth considering when you expect to keep using a subscription long enough for the upfront price to beat monthly payments—and are comfortable giving up some flexibility. The strongest verified examples here are Disney+ in the UK and NFL+ in the US. Three other services have annual-price figures from Ofcom’s September 2025 snapshot, so check their current prices before deciding.
How to tell whether an annual plan is worth it
Divide the annual price by the monthly price for the same plan. The result is the number of months you need to subscribe before annual billing costs less. Use the price shown at checkout: country, plan tier, billing channel, and promotions can change the comparison.

For example, if an annual plan costs the equivalent of 10 monthly payments, it breaks even after 10 months. If you expect to use the service for fewer months, monthly billing costs less and lets you stop sooner. Compare equivalent plans, including ads, video quality, accounts, content access, and bundled benefits.
- Estimate how many months you will realistically use the service, not just how long you hope to keep it.
- Check the upfront charge, auto-renewal date and price, promotion expiry, refund terms, and any eligibility limits.
- Account for third-party billing: a subscription bought through an app store or another provider may have different terms or fees.
- If you are still testing a service or unsure you will continue, monthly billing preserves flexibility.
Five subscriptions to compare
1. Disney+ UK
Disney+ UK lists annual billing for ad-free Standard and Premium at 12 months for the price of 10, a stated 16% saving against paying monthly for a full year. Its page lists Standard at £99.90 per year or £9.99 per month, and Premium at £149.90 per year or £14.99 per month. These prices apply to the UK plans shown, not every country or billing route. Disney+ also describes a six-month offer, so compare the offer available to you with the annual price before paying upfront. Existing monthly subscribers can change plans from their account page. 2. NFL+ in the United States
NFL Support lists NFL+ at $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year, and NFL+ Premium at $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year. NFL says the monthly and annual subscriptions provide the same content; the difference is duration and price. NFL+ is available only in the United States, and third-party subscriptions may involve additional fees. Check NFL+ billing and availability details.
3. Apple TV+
Ofcom’s report published in February 2026 lists Apple TV+ at £9.99 per month or £89 per year using prices gathered through September 2025. That historical comparison suggests annual billing could cost less than 12 monthly payments, but it does not establish the price available today. When the annual discount is not worth it
A lower effective monthly cost does not guarantee a lower bill for you. If you subscribe to a service only during a particular season, expect to cancel soon, or might switch to another plan, several months of monthly payments can cost less than paying for a full year. An annual plan also ties up money upfront and may offer less recourse if your plans change; read the renewal and refund terms rather than assuming the unused time will be refunded.
Promotions need their own comparison. Check how long the offer lasts, what you will pay afterward, whether the annual option can be combined with it, and whether renewal is automatic. Compare the same plan and payment channel, since a discounted or third-party offer may not match the direct monthly price.

Spotify is an offer-specific exception
Spotify’s US terms describe a prepaid yearly offer for an individual account at a discounted rate advertised when the offer is redeemed. It is not evidence of a general annual plan for every customer: current Family plan users are excluded, the offer may roll into the prior paid subscription at its then-current monthly price, and refunds are generally limited after the stated 14-day window. Spotify’s US pricing page lists monthly Individual, Student, Duo, and Family options, but does not establish a universal annual price. Check the offer’s terms and renewal details before accepting it. Read Spotify’s yearly-offer terms and see its US plan options.
