Storm, Rogue, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Cyclops would each give a hypothetical Wolverine sequel a distinct reason to widen its story beyond Logan. None is confirmed for a sequel: the official material reviewed establishes the existing PS5 game, not a follow-up or its roster.
What the current game establishes—and what it doesn’t
PlayStation describes Marvel’s Wolverine as an original, single-player narrative action-adventure for PS5, with Wolverine as the playable character. Its story has Logan rejoining Team X after leaving it and working with fellow mutants while Bolivar Trask kidnaps mutants.

That is not yet an X-Men team story. In a D23 interview, Insomniac narrative director Walt Williams put it plainly: “In Marvel’s Wolverine, there are no X-Men.” He also said that most people in the game’s world do not know mutants exist. Team X is the mutant defense force in this setting. A sequel that introduces recognizable X-Men would therefore represent a meaningful expansion, not a confirmed continuation of an established roster. The official prequel comic is available through Marvel Unlimited.
Five mutants who could give a sequel a reason to expand
These are story and character recommendations, not reported casting plans. The proposed encounter ideas describe possibilities for a future game; no sequel mechanics have been announced.
#1 Best Overall

- Astonishing Cast of Marvel Heroes and Villains - To uncover Wolverine's turbulent past, he must fi ght with and against the most popular characters in the Marvel universe. Gambit, Sabretooth, The Blob, and more combine to make this the most intense action experience in gaming
1. Storm: a leader who can change the scale of a fight
Storm could give Logan a teammate whose presence changes how an encounter feels, rather than simply adding another close-range fighter. PlayStation describes her as the leader of the Unbreakable X-Men in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and says she commands natural forces including wind and lightning. A Wolverine sequel could use that range to create set pieces where the environment and the team’s tactics matter alongside Logan’s direct approach. Her leadership could also help make an emerging X-Men group feel organized rather than like a collection of cameos.
The character facts come from PlayStation’s announcement; adapting those powers into encounters is a proposal.

2. Rogue: an intimate power with built-in risk
Rogue’s ability makes contact consequential. Marvel describes her as absorbing life force, memories, or abilities through physical touch. That creates a natural basis for scenes about trust and restraint: a rescue might require getting close, while a fight could force the player or characters to weigh the cost of contact. The power could turn an ability into a personal dilemma rather than just another attack.

Marvel’s description of Rogue’s power and X-Men background is on its official character page. Any particular mission or mechanic built around it would be speculative.
Rank #3
- Choose a team of 4 powerful X-Men for each mission, switching between them in real-time controls
- After solving problems and facing enemies, players will get to upgrade character attributes -- unlock new moves and skills while you play, to build a better team
- Epic storyline with plot twists, intrigue and cliffhangers
- Explore a 3D game world with fully-destructible environments and fully-rendered cinematic sequences
- Intense multiplayer modes for up to 4 others -- plus dynamic joining lets gaming partners jump in at any time
3. Colossus: a physical foil to Wolverine
Colossus would let a sequel contrast two characters built for physical confrontation without making them feel interchangeable. Marvel identifies Piotr Rasputin as a mutant who became an X-Man and served as the team’s primary muscle. Set beside Wolverine’s close-range fighting style, Colossus could make teamwork about more than two characters doing the same thing: one could embody force at a different scale, while Logan remains the story’s central fighter.
His team role is supported by Marvel’s Colossus character page; the contrast and possible combat roles are editorial suggestions.
Rank #4
- Experience epic Super Hero action, as the game explains Nightcrawlers mysterious absence from the movie, and in-game events foreshadow the roles of the X-Men and Brotherhood in the film
- Travel the globe as you explore Alkali Lake, the Statue of Liberty, Dark Cerebro and more
- Battle fierce enemies and join forces in melee fighting, stealth-style action and time-based missions
- Uniquely engineered environments specifically designed to showcase each character's mutant abilities
- Get the ultimate control of the X-Men as they improve their superpowers over time through the Mutant Evolution System
4. Nightcrawler: a recognizable teammate who could alter movement
Nightcrawler would help a roster read as an X-Men team rather than an assortment of characters orbiting Wolverine. Marvel’s X-Men history material identifies him as one of the team’s prominent members. A game could also explore how his presence changes the rhythm of an encounter, with mobility-oriented possibilities that differ from Logan’s grounded approach. That is a design opportunity, not a claim about the current game or any announced sequel.
5. Cyclops: a clear signal that the story is bigger than Logan
Cyclops is among the original X-Men characters identified in Marvel’s team history material. Including him would make the move from Wolverine and Team X toward a recognizable X-Men group unmistakable. He would be valuable not only as another mutant, but as a character whose inclusion says the story is willing to make room for the team identity that the current game explicitly lacks.
Best Value
- Decide the fate of a new mutant through decisions you make as you advance through the game
- Choose from three brand-new mutant characters in X-Men lore to play
- Come to terms with your unique background and powerful mutant identity as you try to uncover the truth behind an epic event that threatens to ruin the tenuous peace between humanity and mutant kind
- Fight with and against mutants from the X-Men comics, including Magneto, Wolverine, Cyclops and Gambit
- Align yourself with either the X-Men, uniting humans and mutants, or Magneto's Brotherhood of mutants, ushering in a new age of mutant domination
Marvel’s X-Men history reading list supports the team context for Nightcrawler and Cyclops, as well as the background for Colossus: Marvel’s X-Men comics guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the five picks broaden the story in different ways
| Mutant | Potential narrative function | Possible encounter distinction | What the addition signals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Storm | Leader | Natural forces could reshape the scale or conditions of a fight | A team with direction and leadership |
| Rogue | Intimate power dilemma | Touch could carry risk as well as tactical opportunity | Mutant abilities have personal consequences |
| Colossus | Physical foil | A different expression of strength alongside Wolverine’s close-range style | Teamwork can involve complementary roles |
| Nightcrawler | Recognizable teammate | Mobility could create a different encounter rhythm | A broader, familiar X-Men roster |
| Cyclops | Classic team presence | Specific mechanics are not established | A story that moves beyond Logan and Team X |
The roster case is strongest when the five are treated as different contributions, not a checklist of cameos: Storm supplies leadership, Rogue brings a power with personal stakes, Colossus contrasts with Logan physically, and Nightcrawler and Cyclops make the X-Men identity legible. Whether any of them appear depends on a sequel that has not been established by the official material cited here.
