5 Mesh Wi-Fi Systems: What Their Security-Update Policies Promise

A model-by-model look at published mesh Wi-Fi security-update commitments—and why different clocks and country-specific policies prevent a fair longest-to-shortest ranking.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no defensible universal ranking of the five systems below by longest support: their vendors count from different dates and publish policies for different markets. The useful comparison is what each manufacturer actually says about security updates, for which models, and where the policy applies. These commitments do not promise new features, uninterrupted service, or a particular hardware lifespan.

How the five mesh Wi-Fi options compare

The dates and periods below are manufacturer policy statements, not independently measured product lifespans. A “through” date is an endpoint, while a minimum period needs a start date before it can be turned into a calendar endpoint.

System Published security-update policy Scope and what to keep in mind
Amazon eero At least five years of security updates from purchase through eero.com or Amazon.com, or until a later date listed for the model. The published table includes eero 6, 6+, Pro 6E, Max 7, eero 7 and Pro 7, among others, with dates extending through October 31, 2031. Use the exact model’s listed date. eero says support may continue afterward, subject to limitations; it also says the device can continue providing Wi-Fi after security updates end. eero security-update policy.
Google Nest At least five years of automatic security updates from the date a connected-home device first went on sale on the US Google Store. The policy states a minimum period but the cited page does not give a Nest Wifi Pro-specific endpoint. That model’s first-sale date is needed to calculate one. Google Nest security-update policy.
ASUS ZenWiFi ASUS’s UK PSTI table lists ZenWiFi BQ16, BT8 and BT10 through December 31, 2028; BD4 through December 31, 2029; and XT8, XT9, XD5 and ET12 through December 31, 2026. These are periods for products covered by the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act, not a worldwide guarantee. ASUS says support may be extended beyond the listed date. ASUS UK security-update duration table.
TP-Link Deco The Singapore support table gives model-specific dates; the Deco BE22 is listed through June 16, 2028. Applies to the Singapore market. Check the exact model and hardware revision in the current table; one model’s date does not define support for the whole Deco family. TP-Link says support may be extended. TP-Link Singapore security-support table.
NETGEAR Orbi NETGEAR security advisories list fixes for Orbi models and identify some products as end of support (EoS). Models marked EoS have no security updates planned. The June 2026 advisory is useful for checking a model’s status, but it does not provide a comparable prospective support-duration promise across current Orbi kits. NETGEAR June 2026 security advisory.

Why the list cannot be ranked from longest to shortest

The policies do not share a common clock. eero’s minimum starts when a qualifying product is purchased through eero.com or Amazon.com; Google’s minimum starts when a device first goes on sale on the US Google Store. ASUS and TP-Link publish market-specific endpoint dates instead. Without matching the model, market, hardware revision, and start date, those figures are not directly comparable.

They also differ in what they establish. A minimum period is not the same as a published model endpoint, and a statement that support may continue later is not a guarantee of additional coverage. The available NETGEAR advisory is a status and fixes resource, not a forward-looking duration commitment comparable to the other policies.

What to check before choosing a mesh system

  1. Find the exact model. A brand or product family can include devices with different listed dates. For TP-Link, confirm the hardware revision as well as the model.
  2. Confirm the country scope. The ASUS table applies to UK PSTI-covered products; the TP-Link table is for Singapore. Do not assume either policy applies unchanged elsewhere.
  3. Identify when the clock starts. Check whether the vendor counts from purchase, first sale, or gives a calendar endpoint. Keep the relevant purchase or launch date with the policy.
  4. Separate a minimum from an endpoint. “At least five years” needs its start date to calculate a likely end point; “through” a stated date names an endpoint, subject to that page’s conditions.
  5. Recheck the manufacturer page. Support tables and advisories can change. Verify the listing shortly before buying, especially for older models or devices with multiple hardware revisions.

What a security-update promise does—and does not—cover

These policies concern security updates, not necessarily new features or every kind of firmware improvement. They also do not establish how well a system performs, how reliable it is, or how long its hardware will remain useful. For eero specifically, the manufacturer says Wi-Fi can continue working after software security updates end; continued operation is not the same as continued security coverage.
