| HP OmniBook 3 14 (2025) | Windows apps and broader software compatibility | Choose the exact processor and RAM configuration carefully |
| Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 (2024) | Browser and Android-app workflows | ChromeOS is not a substitute for every desktop app |
| HP Victus 15 (2022) | Entry-level 1080p gaming | Sale-dependent price; bulky, with a basic 60Hz screen |

HP Victus 15: best gaming pick when the price is right

RTINGS says it can deliver 1080p gaming near 60 frames per second with graphics settings adjusted. Because this is a 2022 model and the recommendation depends on a sale configuration, confirm both the exact hardware and the final price are still under $700.
The Victus is bulkier than the productivity and Chromebook options, and RTINGS reports roughly an hour of battery life while gaming. Its memory is upgradeable, which offers a future improvement path, but the standard 60Hz panel is basic by gaming-laptop standards.

- Confirm app compatibility. Check desktop software, school or work requirements, and peripherals before settling on macOS, Windows, or ChromeOS. For Snapdragon X Windows models, verify support for essential applications.
- Compare RAM, not just the model name. The MacBook Neo has 8GB of non-upgradeable memory; RTINGS recommends aiming for 16GB on the OmniBook where possible. The cited Victus memory is upgradeable. Laptop families can be sold in configurations that differ substantially.
- Match the format to your routine. Choose a conventional laptop for regular typing, a convertible if you will use tablet mode, or a detachable tablet for media and occasional short tasks. A gaming laptop brings more capability but also more bulk.
- Check the complete listing and price. Confirm the SKU, processor, RAM, storage, display, and final checkout price. A model name alone does not establish that a particular configuration is below $700, and discounts and stock can change.
What “under $700” means for these picks
The list is a set of category recommendations, not a promise that every listed model or configuration is currently available for less than $700. The Victus recommendation specifically refers to a sale configuration, and different versions of the OmniBook and other model families may vary.
