These five GameCube games are still worth revisiting, but each asks modern players to put up with a design choice that has not aged well. The rough edges are part of my affection for them—not proof that the games were objectively bad.
How to read this list
This is a personal retrospective, not a claim that these are the five most dated GameCube games or that everyone will share my reaction. Each entry pairs one specific frustration with the feature that keeps me coming back.

1. Luigi’s Mansion
What has aged badly
The original GameCube game makes Luigi’s movement and vacuum aiming feel tied to a control scheme that takes adjustment. Rooms can also encourage slow, methodical searching when a player would rather move on quickly.
The Tool Desk

Its compact haunted-house setting gives every room a little personality, and the contrast between Luigi’s nervousness and his willingness to keep exploring remains charming. The act of clearing a room with the Poltergust gives the adventure a tactile rhythm that is still distinctive.

- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
2. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
What has aged badly
Sailing between islands can make the journey feel longer than the destination, especially when a player wants to get on with the next story beat. The game’s open stretches reward curiosity, but they can also slow its momentum.
Why I still love it
The expressive character animation gives even small reactions a lot of life, and the ocean makes the world feel like a place to explore rather than a menu of levels. Its bright visual style has held up better than many more realistic looks from the same era.

- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
3. Super Mario Sunshine
What has aged badly
Some of the game’s platforming challenges can feel unforgiving, particularly when a fall sends Mario back to a checkpoint and costs the time spent reaching the difficult section. FLUDD adds useful movement options, but it also makes the controls more demanding than a straightforward jump-and-run.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Isle Delfino has a strong sense of place, and FLUDD makes movement feel playful when the game is not asking for precision. Cleaning up the island gives the adventure a satisfying central idea, while its bright seaside atmosphere still feels inviting.
Rank #3
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
4. F-Zero GX
What has aged badly
Its speed and demanding handling leave little room for mistakes. New players can find the learning curve steep, and the game does not soften the challenge simply because its controls and presentation come from an earlier generation.
Why I still love it
The sense of velocity remains thrilling, and the tracks reward learning their turns rather than simply holding accelerate. When a race clicks, its combination of precision, speed, and futuristic spectacle is hard to replace.
Rank #4
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
5. Chibi-Robo!
What has aged badly
Chibi-Robo!’s small-scale chores and repeated trips around the house can make progress feel slow. Its day-and-night structure asks players to manage time and energy, which can interrupt the urge to explore freely.

The premise makes ordinary domestic spaces feel enormous and full of stories. Helping the family and meeting the household’s toys gives the game an unusual tenderness, and its tiny robot protagonist makes even routine tasks feel personal.

Where to play these games now
Nintendo says GameCube Classics is available on Switch 2 to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members. Nintendo’s official collection listings include all five games in this list: Luigi’s Mansion, The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, F-Zero GX, and Chibi-Robo!. Nintendo announced Super Mario Sunshine’s addition in August 2026. Check Nintendo’s current collection listing for availability as it can change: GameCube – Nintendo Classics.
The service is a Switch 2 option, not a general way to play every GameCube game on any Switch. Nintendo’s Switch 2 GameCube controller is wireless and recharges over USB-C; Nintendo describes it as made for the GameCube Classics collection. Details: Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube Controller.
Nintendo also documents a separate configuration for using an original GameCube controller with Switch in TV mode: connect it through a separately sold GameCube Controller Adapter. Nintendo’s support page specifies supported Switch consoles running system menu version 5.0.0 or later; it does not establish that this setup works with Switch 2. See Nintendo’s GameCube controller support instructions.
