Patrick Campanale says five Dockerized services have faded into the background in his homelab: Plex, Nginx Proxy Manager, Audiobookshelf, Tautulli, and Speedtest-Tracker. That is one operator’s experience—not a reliability test or a promise that the same containers will be trouble-free on another host. His own account includes certificate repairs, graphics-passthrough complications, and problems with third-party mobile apps.
The list is useful less as a guarantee than as a tour of services that perform different, practical jobs in a self-hosted setup.

What “never needed fixing” means here
Campanale’s account appeared in a How-To Geek article republished by Yahoo Tech on September 19, 2026. It describes how these services behaved in his environment. It does not establish a measured uptime rate or show that a particular image, software version, host, storage arrangement, network, or update path will work without intervention for everyone.

Each service also has a distinct role: Plex manages and plays a media library; Nginx Proxy Manager routes external requests to self-hosted services; Audiobookshelf serves audiobooks; Tautulli records Plex activity; and Speedtest-Tracker keeps a history of internet-speed tests.

The five services and what they do
Plex: media library and playback
Plex was Campanale’s first homelab container. He says he had used Plex in some form for more than a decade and started running it as a container in January 2021. It is the media-center service in this group, used to organize and play a personal media library.
His main difficulty was integrated-graphics passthrough to a Proxmox virtual machine. He attributed that complication to his setup, rather than to the Plex container itself. That distinction matters: a service can be uneventful once running while the host or virtualization configuration still takes work.
Nginx Proxy Manager: reverse proxy for external access
Nginx Proxy Manager (NPM) is the reverse proxy Campanale uses to reach self-hosted services from outside his network. He reports managing more than two dozen proxies through it.

He did have certificate trouble after moving servers and needed to repair some Let’s Encrypt certificates. So his experience is not literally issue-free: the service became hands-off for him, but a server move required certificate maintenance.
Audiobookshelf: audiobook playback server
Audiobookshelf is an open-source server for playing audiobooks. It is not a source of audiobook files; users need to provide their own library. Campanale says he has served two libraries to more than a dozen users without a problem in his setup.
He says the trouble he encountered involved third-party mobile apps. That is a useful boundary when assessing the experience: the server’s reported stability does not mean every client app or playback path will behave equally well.

Tautulli: history and activity for Plex
Tautulli is a companion to Plex that records what was watched, when, by whom, and what is currently playing. Campanale says it later showed viewing data from five or more years earlier, including when he reduced his Plex catalog to save storage.
That history is useful only while Tautulli’s data remains available. The account does not specify backup arrangements or retention settings, so it should not be taken as a guarantee that activity records will survive data loss or migration.
Speedtest-Tracker: a record of speed-test results
Speedtest-Tracker stores a history of internet-speed test results. Campanale uses that record to check whether a perceived slowdown is isolated or appears repeatedly—for example, around the same time on different days.
A speed-test history can help reveal a pattern, but it does not by itself identify the underlying cause. It is a record to compare against, not a diagnosis of a router, ISP, Wi-Fi, or other network problem.

- Match the tool to the job. These services are not alternatives to one another: they cover media playback, external access, audiobooks, Plex activity, and speed-test history.
- Expect the surrounding setup to matter. Campanale’s examples include a virtualization graphics issue, certificate repairs after a move, and client-app problems—issues that extend beyond a simple question of whether a container starts.
- Protect data that has long-term value. Tautulli’s years-old history illustrates why persistent application data and backups matter; the account does not describe how that history was preserved.
