1. CX203SYB or CX205RB: a compact two-tool starting point
A combo kit is the most straightforward choice if you need both drilling or driving and impact fastening, and do not already have the tools. The two kits are different SKUs with different drill types and battery capacities, so check the exact listing before buying.

CX205RB: hammer driver-drill and impact driver
This kit pairs a 6-1/2-inch hammer driver-drill (3.1 pounds) with the same listed 5-1/4-inch, 2.6-pound impact driver. Its cited contents are two 2.0Ah batteries, a charger, and a bag. The hammer function is intended for drilling masonry and brick when used with an appropriate masonry bit; the bit is sold separately. This feature makes the kit a better fit than the CX203SYB if masonry drilling is part of your work, but it does not make the tools interchangeable.
2. XFD15ZB: a standalone drill for drilling and driving

3. XDT18ZB: a compact impact driver for fastening
Choose the XDT18ZB when your priority is driving fasteners with an impact driver rather than drilling with a conventional drill chuck. It measures 5-1/4 inches, offers two speed ranges, and is rated by Makita for up to 1,240 in-lbs of maximum torque. Its Assist Mode is intended to help reduce screw cam-out and cross-threading. 4. XWT12ZB: a 3/8-inch impact wrench for nuts and bolts
The XWT12ZB is a compact 3/8-inch impact wrench for nut-and-bolt fastening. It is a different tool from both a drill and a 1/4-inch hex impact driver: choose it for wrench-style fasteners and compatible sockets, not general drilling. 5. XSH04ZB: a 6-1/2-inch saw for cutting and ripping
If the job involves cutting rather than drilling or fastening, the XSH04ZB is Makita’s compact circular-saw option in this group. Makita describes it for cutting and ripping in framing, roofing, and formwork. The listed length is 10-5/8 inches; weight is 6.4 pounds with a 2.0Ah battery. Its brushless motor is rated up to 5,000 RPM.
Makita reports up to 174 cross-cuts per charge in 2×10 SPF lumber using a 5.0Ah battery. That is the manufacturer’s product-page runtime test result under those stated conditions, not an independently verified result or a promise for different lumber, batteries, or cutting conditions. How to choose: task, battery, and dimensions
- For drilling and driving: choose the XFD15ZB alone or one of the combo kits. The CX205RB’s hammer function is relevant if you also need to drill masonry with a suitable bit.
- For impact fastening: choose the XDT18ZB, or the impact driver in either combo kit.
- For nuts and bolts: choose the XWT12ZB and compatible sockets; an impact driver is not a direct substitute for an impact wrench.
- For sawing: the XSH04ZB is the only cutting tool in this group.
