Which Mac keyboard suits each use?
Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID (USB-C): Apple integration
Choose this if you want a slim, wireless Apple keyboard and Touch ID on a compatible Mac. Apple’s USB-C specification page says this model is rechargeable, includes a USB-C charge cable, was introduced in 2024, and requires macOS 15.1 or later. Apple estimates “about a month or more” between charges; that is the company’s estimate, not an independently measured result. Apple’s technical specifications provide the model details.

Touch ID is not a universal feature across Macs: Macworld says it works only with Macs using Apple silicon. Verify both your Mac model and operating-system version before buying. Macworld also notes that the keyboard lacks backlighting and costs more than some alternatives. Apple describes it as offering “a remarkably comfortable and precise typing experience for Mac and Apple Vision Pro”; that is Apple’s own product language, not an independent comfort assessment. Macworld’s comparison identifies the review trade-offs.
Logitech MX Keys S for Mac: a full-size productivity layout
This is the practical fit if you want a dedicated Mac key layout, a number pad, backlighting and programmable keys. Macworld also notes that the function keys can be customised. Logitech says the keyboard can pair over Bluetooth Low Energy with up to three Apple devices, such as Mac computers and iPads, and switch among them with a button. Logitech’s product page describes the layout, illumination and pairing.
#1 Best Overall
- WIRELESS, RECHARGEABLE CONVENIENCE — Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad connects wirelessly to your Mac, iPad, or iPhone via Bluetooth. And the rechargeable internal battery means no loose batteries to replace.
- WORKS WITH MAC, IPAD, OR IPHONE — It pairs quickly with your device so you can get to work right away.
- ENHANCED TYPING EXPERIENCE — Magic Keyboard delivers a remarkably comfortable and precise typing experience. Its extended layout features document navigation controls for quick scrolling and full-size arrow keys. The numeric keypad is ideal for spreadsheets and finance applications.
- GO WEEKS WITHOUT CHARGING — The incredibly long-lasting internal battery will power your keyboard for about a month or more between charges. (Battery life varies by use.) Comes with a Lightning to USB Cable that lets you pair and charge by connecting to a USB port on your Mac.
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS — Requires a Bluetooth-enabled Mac with macOS 10.12.4 or later, an iPad with iPadOS 13.4 or later, or an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 10.3 or later.
Logitech’s battery estimate, as reported by Macworld, is up to five months without backlighting and around 10 days with continuous backlighting. These are manufacturer claims under different lighting conditions, not independent test results. If you want a smaller footprint instead, the MX Keys Mini for Mac omits the number pad. Logitech’s US page displayed a time-limited $109.99 offer against $129.99 when accessed; that offer is not a dependable current price, so check the page and your local market before purchasing.
Logitech POP Icon Keyboard: compact and budget-minded
Macworld names the POP Icon its budget Mac pick. Its quiet, contoured keys and ability to connect to up to three devices suit users who value a smaller keyboard and easy switching. The compromises are a somewhat cramped layout, no backlight, and replaceable AA batteries rather than rechargeable power.
Rank #2
- Magic Keyboard delivers a remarkably comfortable and precise typing experience.
- It’s also wireless and rechargeable, with an incredibly long-lasting internal battery that’ll power your keyboard for about a month or more between charges.
- It pairs automatically with your Mac, so you can get to work straightaway.
- It features a USB-C port and includes a woven USB-C Charge Cable that lets you pair and charge by connecting to a USB-C port on your Mac.
Macworld reports Logitech’s battery-life claim of up to 36 months. That figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement, and actual duration depends on use. See Macworld’s comparison for its assessment.
Logitech Signature Comfort Plus Combo MK880: keyboard-and-mouse bundle
Consider this set if you want a curved keyboard layout, an integrated wrist rest and a mouse in one purchase. Macworld describes Bluetooth connectivity and pairing with up to three devices, and positions the bundle as a lower-cost, customisable choice. It is conditional recommendation: the connection is wireless-only, power comes from replaceable batteries, and the included mouse is right-handed only. It is not a good fit if you need a left-handed mouse or want rechargeable peripherals. Macworld’s comparison covers the bundle’s design and limitations.
Rank #3

Lemokey L1 HE: a specialised mechanical gaming board
Macworld selects the L1 HE as its Mac gaming pick. It has a 75% layout, magnetic Hall effect switches, customisation options and both Mac and Windows layouts. The reduced footprint retains a function row but gives up the number pad. Its substantial weight, lack of height adjustment, US-only layout in Macworld’s review and premium price make it a specialised choice rather than a default office keyboard. Check the available layout in your market. Macworld’s comparison details the review’s assessment.

How to choose between them
- Confirm compatibility first. Check the exact Mac and macOS version for special features such as Touch ID. Basic keyboard compatibility does not guarantee that every vendor app or function works on every operating-system version.
- Match layout to your work. A full-size board such as the MX Keys S includes a number pad. Compact models save desk space but omit keys; the L1 HE’s 75% design keeps a function row without a number pad.
- Choose the typing style you prefer. Slim scissor-style keyboards are low-profile and quiet; mechanical and Hall effect switches offer a different, more tactile or gaming-oriented experience. Feel is subjective, so no style is objectively best for everyone.
- Decide how you want to power and light it. Rechargeable keyboards avoid disposable batteries, while replaceable-battery models do not need charging. Backlighting is useful in dim rooms but, in the MX Keys S estimates cited above, continuous use substantially shortens the stated interval between charges.
- Check connections and switching needs. The MX Keys S product page specifies Bluetooth Low Energy and switching among up to three Apple devices. Macworld reports multi-device switching for the POP Icon and MK880. Do not assume that another model supports a receiver or wired mode unless its product specifications say so.
- Verify the exact variant and local price. Discounts, stock, layouts and model specifications can change by region and over time. Confirm the listing matches the Mac version and physical layout you want.
