For gaming and GPU-heavy creative work, some ASUS laptops are plausible alternatives to a MacBook Pro—especially models with high-power NVIDIA RTX graphics. But there is no evidence here that these five laptops outperform every MacBook Pro across every task. The result depends on the exact MacBook Pro chip and configuration, the ASUS model’s GPU power limit, and the workload.
Use this list as a shortlist to compare, not a verified performance ranking. The available sources do not provide a common, independent benchmark test of all five ASUS configurations against one specified MacBook Pro.

What “more powerful” means in this comparison
A laptop can be faster at one task and slower at another. ASUS’s strongest potential edge in these options is gaming and GPU-accelerated work, where a discrete NVIDIA laptop GPU may be a better fit. That does not establish an advantage in CPU benchmarks, battery life, or every creative application.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBefore treating any result as a MacBook Pro comparison, pin down the Apple chip, screen size, memory configuration, application, and benchmark version. On the ASUS side, check the exact SKU, GPU power limit, cooling, and memory. GPU names alone do not guarantee equivalent performance: ASUS lists the 2026 ROG Strix SCAR 18 RTX 5090 Laptop GPU at up to 175W, for example. ASUS’s 2026 SCAR 18 specifications describe a maximum configuration, not necessarily every retail SKU.

Five ASUS laptops worth comparing
1. ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2026) G835
This is the clearest gaming-focused candidate in the list. ASUS lists an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and configurations up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU with a maximum 175W TGP. The product page also lists up to 128GB of memory and 8TB of PCIe Gen5 storage, but availability varies by region and SKU. Check ASUS’s 2026 model specifications against the actual configuration offered where you plan to buy.
Its high GPU power ceiling makes it a strong candidate for gaming and GPU-heavy rendering, but it is not proof of a win over a specific MacBook Pro. Compare sustained performance in the same game or application, not peak component names.

2. ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) GU606
ASUS lists a Core Ultra 9 386H and configurations up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU for the 2026 G16. Its thinner, more portable positioning makes it a different trade-off from the larger SCAR 18: check the exact GPU power limit and cooling behavior as well as weight, battery life, and sustained performance. ASUS’s 2026 Zephyrus G16 product page is the reference for its listed options.

The ProArt P16 is aimed at creative work, but model year and configuration matter unusually much here. TechRadar reviewed an H7606WX with an RTX 5090 and said it could handle demanding 4K and many 8K projects. The review reported pricing around US$5,800 or £4,799 at the time; that is dated review context, not a current quote. Read the reviewed configuration and context.
Rank #3

The full-surround RGB light bar creates a striking 360° glow, while Stealth Mode turns off all lighting for a sleek, professional look around the base.
Do not assume every P16 has that graphics hardware. ASUS’s 2025 P16 guide lists configurations up to an RTX 5070, up to 64GB memory, and up to 4TB SSD, with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Verify the regional P16 options with ASUS before comparing or purchasing.
4. ROG Zephyrus G14 (2026)
Tom’s Guide’s recent hands-on coverage describes strong gaming, creator, and AI performance, while noting Apple Silicon’s advantage in a key single-core measure. That makes the G14 a workload-dependent option rather than a general MacBook Pro replacement. The exact reviewed configuration should be matched to the unit you are considering; see Tom’s Guide’s G14 review for its configuration and observations.

5. ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2025) G835
The previous-generation SCAR 18 is worth considering if its exact configuration and current local price compare favorably with the 2026 model. ASUS lists an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU option at up to 175W and up to 64GB of memory. Those are maximum listed options, not a guarantee for every SKU. Check ASUS’s 2025 SCAR 18 specifications and compare like-for-like configurations.

What the published performance evidence does—and doesn’t—show
The available benchmark figures are useful context, but they are not a controlled cross-platform comparison. Tom’s Guide reported Geekbench 6 scores of 2,872 single-core and 15,286 multi-core for its reviewed ProArt P16 with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 in 2024. Those numbers describe that review unit and test; they do not establish how it compares with a current MacBook Pro. See the ProArt P16 review and test context.
AMD’s claim of up to 6% faster overall productivity in Procyon Office was based on a vendor comparison conducted in April 2025: a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 ASUS Vivobook S15 versus a 15-inch MacBook Air M4. It was not a MacBook Pro test, and it should not be transferred to the ProArt P16 or the ASUS laptops above. Read AMD’s stated comparison and conditions.
Quick Recap
How to choose the right ASUS model for your workload
| What matters | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Gaming | Compare frame rates in the same games, resolution, graphics settings, and power mode. Confirm the ASUS GPU’s power limit; the RTX 5090 name alone is not enough. |
| 3D rendering or GPU-accelerated creation | Use results from the actual application and render engine you rely on. Confirm GPU support, memory needs, and sustained performance. |
| Video editing and export | Match the codec, project, effects, application version, and export settings. A result from one project is not a universal editing verdict. |
| CPU-heavy work | Compare the same benchmark version or real workload on the exact machines. The G14 review’s single-core caveat is a reminder that an ASUS GPU advantage does not imply a CPU advantage. |
| Everyday portability | Balance weight, battery life, display, noise, and sustained performance against peak graphics capability. These trade-offs are especially important when comparing a portable Zephyrus with a larger gaming laptop. |
| Price and availability | Compare the same region, model year, memory, storage, and GPU configuration. Review pricing is dated context, and listed maximum configurations may not be sold in every market. |
Bottom line by buyer
- For gaming and high-power graphics: Start with the 2026 SCAR 18, then compare the G16 if portability matters more. Confirm the specific GPU power limit and cooling configuration.
- For creator workflows: Consider the ProArt P16 only after verifying whether the unit has the RTX 5090 review configuration or a different GPU.
- For a smaller gaming-and-creator laptop: The G14 is a candidate, but weigh the review’s Apple Silicon single-core caveat against the tasks you actually run.
- For value between generations: Compare the 2025 SCAR 18’s exact SKU and current local price with the 2026 machine rather than assuming the newer model is automatically the better buy.
