Not in the ordinary Chrome app: Google’s phone instructions for adding an extension say to tap “Add to Desktop,” which installs it for Chrome on a computer, not on your phone. The five picks below are available as add-ons for Firefox for Android instead. If you want these tools on Android, install them through Firefox’s add-on manager and check each extension’s requested access before adding it.
First, the Chrome-on-Android limitation
Google’s Chrome Web Store instructions distinguish between desktop Chrome and a phone: the phone workflow sends an extension to a computer through “Add to Desktop.” It does not install that extension in ordinary Chrome for Android.

These recommendations are therefore for Firefox for Android, not a way to add extensions to Chrome on your phone. Mozilla says add-ons can be installed from Firefox’s Add-ons manager or Mozilla Add-ons, but warns that some may not be compatible with Firefox for Android. Confirm Android availability on the individual listing before installing.

1. uBlock Origin: block ads, trackers, and other unwanted content
uBlock Origin is a free, open-source, wide-spectrum content blocker. Its default filter lists are described as blocking ads, trackers, coin miners, and popups; you can enable additional lists or write custom rules if you want more control. That flexibility makes it a strong general-purpose choice, though users who change lists or rules will have more to manage.
The listing requests access to website data and related browser activity. Its privacy and resource advantages are the developer’s stated design goals, not an independent performance comparison. The Mozilla Add-ons listing showed version 1.75.0, updated September 16, 2026, when accessed October 7, 2026.

2. Dark Reader: make bright sites dark
Dark Reader applies dark themes to websites and provides controls for brightness, contrast, sepia, fonts, and sites to ignore. It is a preference and readability tool: the available evidence does not establish that it saves battery or works perfectly with every site.

3. Bitwarden Password Manager: handle passwords and passkeys
Bitwarden’s add-on listing describes password storage, password generation, autofill, sharing, and passkey support. The listing advertises a free offering as well as premium plans for advanced features; it does not mean every feature is necessarily included at no cost. Check the listing for the current feature and plan details that matter to you.
Because the add-on requests access to website data, inspect the permission prompt and use a password manager only in a way you understand and trust. The Mozilla Add-ons listing showed version 2026.9.3, updated October 1, 2026, when accessed October 7, 2026.

4. Privacy Badger: let tracker blocking adapt
Published by EFF Technologists, Privacy Badger learns to block hidden trackers and sends Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals. That differs from uBlock Origin’s emphasis on filter lists: both address unwanted tracking, but their listings describe different approaches, not a controlled comparison of effectiveness.

5. Tampermonkey: a power-user option for userscripts
Tampermonkey manages userscripts—small scripts that change or add behavior on websites. Its listing describes a script overview, built-in editor, ZIP import and export, update checks, and browser or cloud synchronization. Unlike the other picks, it is not a general browsing improvement for everyone: it is most useful when you have a specific, trusted script and understand what it does.
Scripts and the add-on can access website data, so install scripts only from sources you trust. The Mozilla Add-ons listing showed version 5.5.0, updated May 8, 2026, when accessed October 7, 2026.

- Open Firefox’s add-on manager: tap the three-dot menu, then tap Add-ons.
- Choose an add-on: select one in the manager or find it through Mozilla Add-ons. Confirm its listing supports Firefox for Android.
- Review access: read the permissions requested and decide whether they fit the add-on’s purpose.
- Install: tap Add and follow any confirmation prompt.
- Check it in use: try the extension on sites you rely on. Add one or two tools first so you can identify which one causes a problem if something stops working.
Mozilla says you can update, disable, or remove add-ons from the same manager. If an essential site behaves unexpectedly, disable the most recently added extension there or remove it, then check whether the site works again. Google’s general extension guidance is sound here: “Make sure you only approve extensions that you trust.”
Why not use Kiwi Browser for Chrome-style extensions?
Kiwi is not a sensible current workaround to recommend: its own project README says the browser is archived and will no longer be maintained after January 2025, and advises users to explore alternatives to stay secure and up to date. For the add-ons covered here, Firefox for Android is the documented, maintained route in the sources cited above.
