1. AOC Q27G3XMN: best fit for gaming and mixed use
RTINGS names the AOC Q27G3XMN its best budget monitor in its 2026 guide. It pairs a 27-inch QHD VA panel with a 180Hz refresh rate and Mini-LED backlighting with local dimming. RTINGS highlights its strong contrast, deep blacks and bright highlights, making it the most compelling pick here if gaming picture quality is a priority.
There is a real compromise: RTINGS reports black smearing in dark scenes. Its gaming orientation may also be unnecessary if you mainly need a display for documents, browsing and email. AOC’s US product page showed a starting price of $218.49 when accessed in 2026; that is a changeable listing, not a guaranteed price. 2. Dell Alienware AW2725DM: a QHD alternative
The AW2725DM is another 27-inch, 1440p, 180Hz gaming display, using Fast IPS rather than the AOC’s VA panel and Mini-LED system. Dell lists variable refresh support and an adjustable stand with height, pivot, swivel and tilt. RTINGS describes its image quality as weaker than the AOC’s: it lacks Mini-LED, has low contrast that can make blacks look gray, and has poor HDR local dimming.

3. LG 24GS65F-B: compact 1080p gaming
For a smaller desk, a multi-monitor layout or a system that is better suited to 1080p gaming, the 24-inch LG 24GS65F-B is a practical alternative. RTINGS lists it as a budget 24-inch pick: it uses an IPS panel, runs at 1920×1080 and supports 180Hz. A 1080p image has less detail than QHD or 4K at comparable viewing conditions, and the smaller screen is less immersive than the 27-inch choices. That lower resolution can also be easier for a graphics card to drive in games.

4. Dell S2725QS: 4K for text and desktop detail
If sharp text and workspace detail matter more than gaming-oriented HDR, the 27-inch Dell S2725QS is the 4K choice in this group. RTINGS lists an IPS panel at 3840×2160 and 120Hz, and notes that text is sharper than on 1440p models and the stand is ergonomic. It has no USB ports, and its HDR is weaker than the AOC Q27G3XMN’s. RTINGS also reports worse motion handling than the AOC and LG gaming options, so don’t treat its 120Hz specification as a guarantee of better motion performance.

5. Dell Alienware AW3425DWM: ultrawide gaming
The AW3425DWM stretches the image across a 34-inch, curved 21:9 display at 1440p and 180Hz. That extra width can make supported games and sim racing more immersive, while the curve brings the screen edges closer to the viewer. RTINGS notes weak HDR local dimming and some black smearing. Before choosing an ultrawide, check that your desk can accommodate it and that your graphics card can run your games at the resolution and settings you want.
Office-focused alternative: BenQ GW2486TC
For a laptop second screen or everyday office work, TechRadar’s 2026 roundup recommends the BenQ GW2486TC. It lists a 23.8-inch 1080p display, 250-nit brightness, 99% sRGB coverage, USB-C, office viewing modes and a stand with height, swivel and tilt adjustment. TechRadar reported prices of $189.99, £149.99 and AU$289; these are dated, region-specific figures, not confirmed live prices. Its stated drawbacks include modest brightness, no KVM and no cable management.

How to choose the right one
Start with what you do most
- Fast-paced or visually rich gaming: Compare the AOC and Alienware gaming picks, but weigh their contrast, HDR and motion trade-offs rather than choosing by refresh rate alone.

Match resolution and size to your space and system
The shortlist ranges from 24-inch 1080p to 27-inch QHD and 4K, plus a 34-inch ultrawide. Higher resolution can provide finer detail, but gaming at that resolution places different demands on your graphics card. Consider viewing distance, available desk space and the games or applications you use before deciding.

A maximum refresh-rate figure is not a complete measure of motion quality. RTINGS reports different motion and dark-scene behavior across these models, so consider those findings alongside the listed rate. Also check the connection and settings required to reach the refresh rate you want. For ports and positioning, the AW2725DM has an adjustable stand; the S2725QS has an ergonomic stand but no USB ports; and TechRadar lists USB-C and multiple stand adjustments for the BenQ.
