A few small 3D-printed fixes can make the first days in a new apartment smoother: route a lamp cable along the baseboard, keep desk cords in place, add a light-duty hook, or replace a broken blind part. These are model ideas, not tested recommendations; measure first, check mounting requirements, and confirm a print suits the job.
Which print is right for the problem?
| Measuring or fit work | Clearance or mounting | Heat or load concern | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baseboard cable clip | Measure the cable or test-fit a size | Slides behind the baseboard; needs about 0.6 mm of clearance | Routes a cable; not intended as a load-bearing part |
| Under-desk cable clip | Check desk thickness and select a matching version | Screws or double-sided tape, depending on the model | Routes cables; adhesive and surface compatibility matter |
| Removable-strip hook | Match the strip to the model opening: 20 mm wide, 66 mm tall, and 5 mm deep | Uses a compatible hook-and-loop adhesive strip | May carry a light item only; no independent load test is reported |
| Blind repair clip or cord guide | Compare dimensions with an intact matching part | Replaces an existing fixture part | Must fit the specific blind system; no universal fit is established |
The dimensions and design details above come from the respective model listings and Sovol’s guide, not comparative testing. The available sources do not establish consistent print times, material use, cost, or durability for these four ideas.

1. Route a cable along the baseboard
A baseboard cable clip can keep a lamp or charger lead close to the edge of a room without sticking a clip to the wall. The MakerWorld design slides into the gap between wall and baseboard and calls for about 0.6 mm of clearance behind the baseboard. Check that gap before printing: some apartments will not have it. The listing offers different sizes and suggests measuring the cable or printing a size to test-fit. See the MakerWorld baseboard cable clip listing for the model’s current details and license.

2. Keep desk or bedside cables within reach
An under-desk cable clip can hold charging leads near a desk or bedside table once the furniture is in place. The MakerWorld listing includes versions for different thicknesses and mounting options using screws or double-sided tape. Measure the desk edge, then choose a version and attachment method suitable for both the surface and your rental agreement. The listing describes a profile that fits 12 pieces on one plate; that is a model-specific layout, not a promise about print time or cost. Check the MakerWorld under-desk cable clip listing for its current variants.

3. Add a light-duty no-drill hook
A hook designed for a removable hook-and-loop strip can provide a place for a light everyday item without drilling. One Thangs model specifies an opening 20 mm wide, 66 mm tall, and 5 mm deep, so do not assume a strip you already own will fit. Check the model and the strip dimensions before printing or mounting. The listing does not provide an independent load test, so do not treat it as suitable for heavy bags or anything whose fall could cause damage. It also says the design is not eligible for resale; review the current listing terms before any commercial use. See the Thangs model listing.
Adhesive mounting is not automatically damage-free. For rental walls, check your agreement and follow the mounting product’s directions. Fixless describes removable adhesive and tension-mounted alternatives, with weight limits that vary by product listing: Fixless renter guidance.

4. Replace a small broken blind part
If a blind has a broken slat clip, cord guide, or chain-tensioner cover, printing a matching replacement may be more practical than replacing the whole fixture. Sovol’s guide identifies these as possible renter-friendly prints, but it does not establish that any one design fits every brand or blind system. Compare the proposed model with an intact matching part and measure its dimensions before printing. If no matching part is available, fit remains uncertain. The guide also mentions window screen clips, but those likewise need to match the specific screen and frame. See Sovol’s guide to renter-friendly 3D-printed home accessories.
Choose material and mounting with the location in mind
Material choice matters more when a part sits in heat or carries a load. Sovol says PLA works for many indoor parts but may soften faster in direct sun behind glass; it suggests considering PETG, ASA, or ABS for safety-relevant or load-bearing parts in hot conditions, and describes PETG as an accessible step up for hot weather and sunny windows. These are the manufacturer’s general recommendations, not tests of the four designs here, and they cannot guarantee a particular print’s performance. Check your printer’s material compatibility and the model’s intended use before choosing filament.
