The strongest current candidates for a save-up purchase are a 42-inch riding mower, a two-stage snow blower and a kinetic log splitter. Their listed prices and a few manufacturer claims are documented, but that alone does not prove durability or value for every owner. Treat “worth it” as a question of how often the tool will solve a costly or demanding job, and confirm the current price, kit contents and service options before buying.
At a glance: the expensive RYOBI tools to consider
| Tool | Model | RYOBI listed price | Best fit to evaluate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80V HP Brushless 42-inch Zero Turn Riding Mower Kit | RY80HPRM04K-ZR3 | $3,999 | Owners with a larger lawn who want a riding mower and can charge its batteries at home. |
| 40V HP Brushless WHISPER SERIES 22-inch Two-Stage Snow Blower Kit | RY408150 | $1,499 | People who regularly clear substantial snow and have a driveway and storage space suited to a two-stage machine. |
| 40V HP Brushless Kinetic Log Splitter Kit | RY40740 | $999 | People who process firewood often enough to justify a dedicated splitter, subject to confirming log-size and wood-type limits. |
These are RYOBI catalog prices, not guaranteed transaction prices: the 80V mower listing is from its official collection and product page, while the 40V tool listings are from the official 40V collection. 1. RYOBI ZR3 42-inch zero-turn mower: a major purchase for a larger lawn
The ZR3 is the clearest high-ticket option in the current listings: RYOBI lists the 80V HP Brushless 42-inch Zero Turn Riding Mower Kit, model RY80HPRM04K-ZR3, for $3,999. RYOBI says it has the power of a 25 HP gas engine and can mow up to two acres per charge in ECO mode using the two included 80V 14Ah batteries. Those are manufacturer claims, and the acreage figure specifically depends on ECO mode and the included battery configuration; it is not a guarantee for every lawn or mowing condition.
When the price may make sense
Consider it if a riding mower would meaningfully reduce the time and physical effort of maintaining your property, and the lawn size, terrain and charging access suit a battery-powered machine. The advertised acreage gives a point of comparison, not a substitute for checking whether your property and mowing conditions match the claim.
#1 Best Overall
- Stens replacement parts have become a favorite among lawn and landscape professionals thanks to exceptional performance.
What to check first
- Compare your mowable area with RYOBI’s stated “up to two acres” condition, and ask how terrain, grass and mowing habits affect runtime.
- Confirm the kit’s included batteries and charger, and whether you have a convenient place and schedule to recharge.
- Check the 42-inch deck’s fit for gates, narrow passages, storage and the shape of your lawn.
- Ask about local delivery, warranty handling, service and parts availability for this specific model.
- Recheck the current listing price and availability before committing.
2. RYOBI 22-inch two-stage snow blower: for recurring heavy clearing needs
RYOBI lists its 40V HP Brushless WHISPER SERIES 22-inch Two-Stage Snow Blower Kit, model RY408150, for $1,499. A two-stage machine is a substantial purchase, so it is most worth considering for someone who repeatedly clears enough snow to value a dedicated powered tool. The catalog listing establishes the model and price; it does not establish snow-depth limits, throwing distance, runtime, or how it handles wet snow.
Match the machine to your winter
Before saving for this model, compare your typical snowfall and clearing area with the work the machine is expected to handle. Check the listed kit contents and battery capacity, the space needed to store it, and whether local service is available. Ask the seller or consult current model documentation for operating limits and expected performance in the snow conditions you actually face. RYOBI’s 40V collection is the cited source for the listing.

3. RYOBI kinetic log splitter: for regular firewood processing
The 40V HP Brushless Kinetic Log Splitter Kit, model RY40740, appears in RYOBI’s 40V collection at $999. It is a candidate for people who split firewood often enough to justify a dedicated tool, rather than an occasional-use purchase. The listing does not establish splitting force, cycle time or the size and type of logs it can process, so do not assume it will suit every woodpile.

- How much wood do you split in a typical season, and how often would the tool be used?
- What are the usual log dimensions and wood types? Confirm the model’s limits in current product documentation.
- What batteries and charger are included in the kit, and do you already own compatible 40V batteries?
- Can you transport, use and store the splitter safely in your workspace?
- Is there a nearby retailer or service provider that can support this specific model?
RYOBI’s 40V collection verifies the listed model and price, but those questions need answers beyond the catalog entry.

Why there are three picks, not four
The title promises four tools, but the evidence available for the fourth candidates is not strong enough to recommend them on equal terms. RYOBI’s older 80V HP Brushless 54-inch mower, model RYRM8034, is marked discontinued on its product page. Its historic listing price does not make it a current buying recommendation; anyone considering remaining stock should verify availability, warranty, parts and service directly.
RYOBI’s official HP collection also lists an R1 80V HP Brushless 30-inch Riding Lawn Mower Kit, model RY80HPRM05K-R1, for $2,999. The listing establishes its identity and price, but not its runtime or acreage rating. That is not enough to assess which lawns it suits. The 40V collection also lists an 1800-watt Power Station Kit, model RYi1802B6, for $899, but the available listing does not establish its use cases, output details, battery contents or suitability. Neither belongs on a confident “worth saving up for” shortlist without confirming those details and the buyer’s needs.
How to decide whether a costly RYOBI tool is worth saving for
- Start with the job. Identify how often you mow, clear snow or split firewood, and how much time or effort a powered tool could realistically save.
- Check the fit. Compare lawn area and terrain, snowfall and clearing area, or log dimensions and wood type with the exact model’s current documentation.
- Read the kit contents. Confirm batteries, charger and any other required equipment are included. Do not assume every listing or promotion has the same contents.
- Price the whole purchase. Verify the current product price and account for any equipment or accessories the job requires. The catalog prices above are snapshots, not promises of current sale pricing.
- Check ownership support. For a large or specialized tool, confirm delivery, storage needs, warranty process, parts and local repair options before paying.
- Compare alternatives for your use. A lower-cost or different type of tool may be more sensible if the job is occasional, the property is small, or a battery-powered machine does not match your conditions.
RYOBI’s official listings establish product identities, listed prices and only a limited set of capabilities. They do not establish long-term reliability, owner satisfaction, repair costs or comparative value. The mower’s acreage and power-equivalence statements are RYOBI claims, not independent test results. A large price tag—and a manufacturer’s specification—cannot decide value without the buyer’s workload and local support options.
