Three built-in Windows shortcuts make common tasks quicker to reach: Windows+V opens clipboard history, Windows+Z opens Snap layouts, and Alt+Tab switches between open apps. They are useful for different kinds of navigation; try the one that matches what you do most often.

Use Windows+V to retrieve something you copied earlier
Press Windows+V to open clipboard history. The first time, choose Turn on. After that, select an earlier entry—such as an address or phrase you copied—to paste it without going back to the original page or document.

Microsoft says clipboard history holds up to 25 entries. As new items are added, older unpinned entries are removed; history is cleared when Windows restarts, except for pinned items. Pin an item you want to keep available. You can also clear history from clipboard controls or settings. (Microsoft Support: Using the clipboard)

Clipboard items can be up to 4 MB each, and Microsoft lists text, HTML, and bitmap formats as supported. Clipboard sync across devices is optional, requires the same Microsoft or work account on each device, and should not be assumed to be on by default. (Microsoft Support: Using the clipboard)
Use Windows+Z to arrange open windows
Press Windows+Z to open Snap layouts, then choose a layout and place open windows into its zones. This can help when you want two or more windows visible at once, such as a document beside a browser.

Snap can also be used with a mouse or touch. Its settings let you adjust options such as whether layouts appear when you hover over a window’s maximize button and how Snap Assist and Snap groups behave. Hold Alt and tap Tab until the task switcher highlights the app you want, then release the keys. Microsoft’s keyboard tips describe the selection moving forward with each Tab press and switching to the selected window when you release the keys. (Microsoft Support: Windows keyboard tips and tricks)

Which shortcut should you try first?
- If you often copy and paste between pages or apps, try Windows+V; it requires first-use activation.
- If you regularly arrange several windows on screen, try Windows+Z.
- If you move repeatedly between open apps, try Alt+Tab.
Microsoft’s shortcut references cover Windows 10 and Windows 11, though behavior may vary by application.
