Architecture portfolios work best when they show not only what a project looks like, but how it was developed and what the portfolio author contributed. The 2026 Colorlib roundup collects 24 examples spanning students, individual architects, firms, landscape practices and visualization studios. The examples below highlight practical ideas to borrow—project sequencing, drawings, captions, credits and navigation—rather than claiming an objectively ranked set of “best” sites.
Websites can change or lapse after a roundup is published. Colorlib reported in 2026 that four checked domains had become casino or betting sites, so open a site and confirm that it still belongs to the architect before treating it as a current example.

Architecture portfolio websites and what to learn from them
The examples below are drawn from Colorlib’s 2026 roundup. They represent different kinds of practices and work; they are not all directly comparable, and the observations are the roundup’s editorial descriptions rather than results from controlled usability testing.

Hamish Angus McAndrew: make individual contributions visible
Colorlib notes that McAndrew’s featured projects credit who handled each RIBA stage. That kind of stage-by-stage attribution helps a reviewer understand a person’s contribution to a project rather than mistaking a team outcome for individual work.
#1 Best Overall

Mia Sherman: make application material easy to find
Sherman’s opening screen links to a PDF portfolio and résumé. A hiring manager or admissions reviewer can move quickly from browsing the site to the materials needed for an application.
Hugh Strange Architects: study a practice portfolio’s project presentation
The roundup includes the practice among its examples. For a firm site, examine how project pages communicate the work and its context, rather than judging the portfolio only by its landing-page imagery.
Ray Zhu: distinguish school and office projects
Zhu separates academic work from office work and explains his role on firm projects. This gives viewers a useful frame for interpreting projects made in different settings.

Wiedenhöver is among the individual portfolio examples in the roundup. When studying a personal site, notice how its project selection and navigation make the author’s interests and work legible.
Hood Design Studio: group projects by practice area
The studio separates landscape, urbanism and research, art and fabrication, and exhibitions. Categorization can help a practice present varied work without making every project appear to belong to the same type.
Sebastian Nitu: compare an individual portfolio’s visual approach
Nitu is included among the roundup’s individual examples. Use the site as a prompt to consider how image selection and project order can communicate a designer’s point of view.

Sean Godsell Architects: separate built, ongoing and unbuilt work
The practice distinguishes selected built work, projects under construction and unbuilt projects. Status labels prevent a rendering, a building under construction and a completed building from being presented as if they were equivalent evidence.
Brandon Kemp: consider how a personal portfolio guides browsing
Kemp is one of the individual examples listed. Pay attention to whether a viewer can move from an overview to a specific project without having to guess where the work is located.
Design Distill: examine a studio’s image-led project pages
Design Distill is included among the named examples. Image-led presentation can make work immediately visible, but the images should still be supported by enough project information to explain what is being shown.
Christina Vogiatzis: caption drawings and connect academic work to its context
Colorlib describes Vogiatzis’s thesis page as captioning drawings and linking to a university repository. Captions let readers interpret drawings, while a relevant institutional link provides a route to additional thesis context.
Alda Capi Architecture: assess the presentation of a practice’s work
This practice is named in the roundup. As with other firm sites, consider whether the project presentation gives viewers a clear route through the work and enough context to understand it.
Rank #3
Anna Heringer: look beyond a single project image
Heringer is among the architects featured. When studying any architect’s portfolio, look for how the site relates images to process, place and the finished or proposed work.
Nicole Ross: put a useful portfolio action up front
The roundup says Ross’s first button downloads her portfolio PDF. This is a direct way to serve visitors who need an application-ready document as well as those browsing the website.
Lateral Office: explore a practice’s project organization
Lateral Office is one of the featured practices. Its inclusion is a reminder to evaluate not just individual project images but how a practice organizes and presents a body of work.

Wilkie appears in the roundup’s examples. Consider whether each project page makes the work’s subject and context understandable without relying on an image alone.
Maya O’Neill: examine an individual portfolio’s selection
O’Neill is among the named personal examples. The useful question is not how many projects a site contains, but whether its chosen work gives a coherent and understandable account of the author’s experience.
Nicholas Gurney: assess the balance of visuals and information
Gurney is included in the roundup. Look for a balance between visual impact and the project facts, captions and authorship information that let viewers interpret the work.

Mir: study a visualization-focused portfolio
Mir is named in the roundup’s collection, which includes visualization studios as well as architects and firms. For visualization work, make clear what the images depict and distinguish visualizations from photographs of completed work.
Rozana Montiel Estudio de Arquitectura: consider how a practice presents its range
The studio is among the examples listed. A portfolio that spans multiple kinds of work benefits from navigation and project context that help readers understand each project on its own terms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should an architecture portfolio include?
Include a considered selection of projects, with enough evidence and context for someone unfamiliar with the work to understand it. Colorlib’s roundup recommends four to eight strong projects, but that is the publisher’s guidance, not a universal hiring or admissions standard. Follow the recipient’s instructions and choose a length that suits your experience and the work.
Show the project, not only its polished image
Use relevant drawings, plans, sections, diagrams, models, process material, construction photographs or final images. A finished render or photograph can attract attention; supporting material explains the design and how it was developed. Select evidence appropriate to the project rather than adding every artifact you have.
Give each project enough context
Useful project facts can include location, year, site, client, status and project phase. Add the facts that are known and relevant. Label proposed, unbuilt or in-progress work so readers do not confuse it with a completed building.

Best Value
Make the portfolio easy to navigate and follow up on
Organize projects in a way that reflects meaningful differences—such as project type, status or practice area—and label images and drawings. Include an about page or brief biography, a résumé or CV when relevant, and a clear contact route. These elements help a viewer understand both the work and the person behind it.
Should you use a website, a PDF or a printed portfolio?
Use the format the employer, school or interview requires. When feasible, a website and a PDF serve different purposes: the website is shareable and discoverable, while a PDF can be tailored to a specific application. A printed portfolio can support an in-person presentation, but it is not necessary for every application.
| Format | Useful for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Website | Sharing work through a link and presenting a browsable project archive. | Project navigation, readable captions, mobile presentation and a clear contact route. |
| Applications that request a document and a shorter, recipient-specific selection. | Required file format, page or file-size limits, and whether the portfolio needs to be tailored. | |
| Printed portfolio | Presenting work in person, including at an interview. | Whether a physical copy is useful or requested; printing or binding is optional, not a universal requirement. |
Colorlib recommends linking a shorter PDF from a website. Its advice also notes that firms and graduate schools may set PDF file-size limits; the actual application instructions take precedence. An Archifolio-hosted PDF describes printed portfolios, from loose sheets to bound books, as a continuing format for architecture students and interviewees.
How to choose a portfolio website platform
There is no independently established winner among website builders for architecture portfolios. The 2026 comparison from Framekit is vendor-authored and includes the publisher’s own product, so its rankings, prices and feature claims should be treated as vendor claims and checked with each provider before you decide. Sites in the Colorlib examples use a mix of Wix, Archifolio, custom code, Cargo, Squarespace, WordPress, Adobe Portfolio, Format and Webflow; their presence is not proof that one platform is best.
- Project storytelling: Can a project page present a sequence—such as concept, site analysis, plans and sections, process, and outcome—instead of forcing the work into a uniform image grid?
- PDF workflow: Do you need a matching PDF, and does the platform support the workflow you want for creating it?
- Mobile viewing: Do image-heavy pages remain usable on a phone?
- Long-term cost: What will keeping the site online cost for as long as you expect to use it? Check the provider’s current terms rather than relying on dated comparisons.
- Purpose: Are you creating a personal job-application site, an individual portfolio, or a practice’s project archive? The right navigation and maintenance needs differ.
A platform comparison updated by Sitebuilder Report on 2 October 2026 also highlights simple navigation, prominent contact information, project categories and image captions. Those are useful evaluation criteria regardless of which builder you choose.
Where to find inspiration beyond portfolio roundups
Portfolio examples can show how people present work, but they are not the only source of ideas about architecture practice. Wallpaper*’s Architects’ Directory 2026, published on 4 September 2026, features 30 studios from 27 countries. It is an editorial selection of emerging practices, not a ranking or audit of portfolio websites. Its examples include Diana Salvador in Ecuador, Ricehouse in Italy, Templeton Ford in the UK, Hitotomori in Japan and Place of Work in Canada.
In Wallpaper*’s 2026 profile, architect Diana Salvador says: “What sets me apart is how I inhabit my role as an architect, delivering a housing solution without leaving a scar on the environment.” The statement describes her practice, not a portfolio-design method; it can be useful as an example of how an architect articulates a point of view.
