Uttar Pradesh is reported to have announced a ₹28.5 crore reward pool for 20 athletes who won medals at the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, plus ₹5 lakh for each participating athlete who did not win a medal. Hindustan Times reports that Gulveer Singh is set to receive the largest individual award, ₹5 crore for five medals. These are reported plans, not independently confirmed payments: no UP government order or disbursement record was available in the cited coverage.
How much is Uttar Pradesh reported to be paying?
Hindustan Times reports a total pool of ₹28.5 crore for 20 sportspersons. The paper lists 15 Asian Games medals—four gold, three silver and eight bronze—and three Commonwealth Games medals—one gold, one silver and one bronze. It also reports a ₹5 lakh award for each athlete who participated but did not finish on the podium. The medal totals are not a count of unique athletes; the report includes multiple medal entries for some people.
The report does not provide the underlying state order or a final payment record. Treat its figures as an announcement reported by the newspaper, rather than a confirmed disbursement or a verified legal entitlement.
What are the reported medal-wise reward rates?
Hindustan Times lists different rates for the two events:

These are the per-medal amounts listed in the newspaper’s schedule. Its account assigns medal-specific amounts to athletes with multiple medals, but without the government order it is not possible to independently verify how the full award calculation is governed.
Asian Games medalists named in the report
Hindustan Times names Deepti Sharma, Arjun Deshwal, Prachi Chaudhary, Vipraj Nigam and Rajkumar Pal among the Asian Games gold medalists. The report’s list also includes athletes with multiple medal entries; the names and amounts should be read against that article’s schedule, not treated as a complete official beneficiary order.

Commonwealth Games medalists named in the report
The newspaper names Asmita Dey for Commonwealth Games gold and Gulveer Singh for silver and bronze. Asmita’s eligibility had previously been described as under consideration, so the listing should not be read as confirmation that her award has been approved.
Why is Gulveer Singh’s reported award ₹5 crore?
Hindustan Times reports that the Aligarh athlete earned five medals across the two Games: two silvers and a bronze at the Asian Games, followed by a silver and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games. The paper puts his total reported award at ₹5 crore. That figure is the newspaper’s reported total; the available account does not include a state order or payment record to verify the calculation or confirm that the money has been paid.

Is Asmita Dey’s reward confirmed?
Not by the earlier eligibility reporting. NDTV’s August 6, 2026 account said Dey’s eligibility was under consideration. It described criteria associated with a reported August 2024 Uttar Pradesh order: UP domicile, two years of study at a recognised college or university in the state, and representing Uttar Pradesh internationally. NDTV quoted Sports Director RP Singh saying officials were finalising the Commonwealth Games list. Hindustan Times later included her for gold, but the cited coverage does not establish a final official decision or payment.

These schemes belong to different authorities and should not be added together. The Press Information Bureau reported a separate Union award for Commonwealth weightlifting medalists: ₹30 lakh for gold, ₹20 lakh for silver and ₹10 lakh for bronze. The Government of Haryana also announced a separate ₹13.47 crore aggregate reward at its own felicitation event. Neither program verifies Uttar Pradesh’s reported pool or determines eligibility for UP’s awards.
