2024 Tesla Cybertruck: Comprehensive Features, Specs, Pricing and Ownership Guide

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck was Tesla’s first production electric pickup and arrived in the United States as a radically styled, four-door, five-seat truck. Its real launch pricing was about $99,990 for the Dual Motor AWD Foundation Series and $119,990 for the Cyberbeast Foundation Series—nothing like the roughly $39,900 concept price announced in 2019.

It combined extreme acceleration, Tesla’s charging network, steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, power outlets and a large bed. However, its size, launch price, uncertain loaded-range performance, repair complexity and early recalls made it a specialized premium EV rather than an automatic replacement for a conventional work truck.

Quick verdict

  • Best for: Technology-focused buyers who want a very fast electric pickup, Tesla software and charging access, distinctive styling, and built-in electrical power.
  • Strengths: Acceleration, Supercharger access, available 11,000-pound towing, useful outlets, air suspension and unusual packaging.
  • Weaknesses: Approximately $100,000-plus launch pricing, exceptional width, towing-related range loss, expensive body and tire repairs, and early-production recalls.

Buy one only if those unique benefits matter more to you than purchase price, predictable heavy-load range, conventional truck ergonomics and a broad repair network.

What the 2024 Cybertruck was

The 2024 model was the first production Cybertruck, launched in the United States in late 2023. It used a four-door, five-passenger layout, a stainless-steel exterior, a battery-electric powertrain and a six-foot-by-four-foot bed. Most early deliveries were Foundation Series vehicles rather than ordinary low-priced trims.

Do not apply later Tesla listings retroactively. Current pages can show Premium AWD, revised range figures or later Long Range versions that were not normal 2024 purchase choices. The original concept’s approximately $39,900 price was not the 2024 buying price.

2024 pricing and trims

2024 configuration Historical advertised price Claimed range 0–60 mph Maximum towing
Dual Motor AWD Foundation Series About $99,990 before taxes and fees Approximately 318–340 miles, depending on source and configuration About 4.1 seconds Up to 11,000 lb on qualifying setups
Cyberbeast Foundation Series About $119,990 before taxes and fees Approximately 301–320 miles, depending on source and configuration About 2.6 seconds Up to 11,000 lb on qualifying setups

These are historical 2024 launch signals, not current prices. Budget separately for destination or documentation charges, sales tax, registration, financing, insurance, charging installation, accessories and any software charges not bundled with the vehicle. Federal incentive eligibility depends on the vehicle, buyer, timing and applicable rules; verify it rather than assuming a credit.

Foundation Series equipment bundled launch-specific hardware, accessories and software benefits, including Full Self-Driving (Supervised), Powershare-related equipment, an off-road light bar and Foundation markings. Hardware, software entitlements and accessories should be verified on the individual vehicle.

Powertrains and performance

Dual Motor AWD

The dual-motor truck uses all-wheel drive and claims approximately 4.1 seconds from zero to 60 mph. Tesla’s published output figures and independent estimates have varied, so acceleration is the more useful comparable claim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cyberbeast

The tri-motor Cyberbeast claims approximately 2.6 seconds to 60 mph. Tesla’s launch-event figure used a rollout-subtraction qualification, so it is not directly equivalent to every independent test. Tire choice, battery state of charge, temperature, payload and measurement method all affect results.

Rank #2

Top speed and other performance details vary by configuration. Rapid acceleration does not indicate equal performance while towing, carrying maximum payload or driving off-road.

Range: advertised versus usable

Range figures can refer to EPA estimates, Tesla displays or manufacturer claims. Highway driving, high speed, cold weather, all-terrain tires, payload and trailer drag can reduce actual distance. Car and Driver reported roughly 250 miles in a real-world highway test, while Consumer Reports’ 2024 Dual Motor Foundation Series test reported the manufacturer’s 325-mile figure in its test context. Different trim, speed, weather and methodology explain why those results are not interchangeable.

Treat advertised range as a planning baseline—not a towing or winter guarantee. Tesla’s owner documentation tells drivers to use trailer profiles and monitor energy consumption while towing. Usable battery energy is also lower than gross pack capacity.

Towing capability and limitations

Qualifying all-wheel-drive configurations are advertised to tow up to 11,000 pounds, with Tesla documentation listing a 1,100-pound maximum tongue weight for the relevant AWD setup. The trailer’s cargo and equipment count toward its weight, and the vehicle’s hitch label, tires and owner’s manual control if figures conflict.

  • Trailer tongue weight consumes the truck’s payload allowance.
  • Passengers, tools and accessories also consume payload.
  • Frontal area, speed, terrain and aerodynamic drag can reduce range dramatically, sometimes more than trailer weight alone.
  • Trailer Mode and a trailer profile help configure vehicle behavior, but they do not remove charging or maneuvering challenges.
  • Tesla warns that towing loads the motors, drivetrain, brakes, tires and suspension, and towing-related damage may be excluded from warranty coverage.

An 11,000-pound rating therefore does not mean normal EV range with an 11,000-pound trailer. Frequent long-distance heavy towing may still favor gasoline or diesel equipment, depending on charging access and acceptable downtime.

Payload, bed and storage

Tesla cites up to approximately 2,500 pounds of bed payload on qualifying configurations, a six-by-four-foot bed and up to roughly 120 cubic feet of total cargo and storage volume. Those figures are configuration-dependent.

  • Motorized, lockable tonneau cover.
  • Front trunk, under-bed storage and fold-up rear seat cushions.
  • Bed power outlets and utility space.
  • Payload is not the same as bed volume: passengers, accessories and trailer tongue weight reduce the legal load.

Dimensions, materials and exterior design

The angular stainless-steel body uses flat panels and a claimed high-strength exoskeleton. Stainless steel is not maintenance-free or certified armor; scratches, dents, contamination and panel misalignment can be difficult and costly to repair. Inspect the tonneau, glass, lighting, trim and panel fit carefully on a used truck.

Tesla lists approximately 223.7 inches of length and 86.6 inches of width with mirrors folded, expanding to about 95 inches with mirrors extended. That width can make older garages, parking structures, narrow driveways and trails impractical.

Suspension, steering and off-road equipment

Adaptive air suspension, steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering provide adjustable ride height and tighter low-speed maneuvering. Available software modes include Overland, Slippery Surface, Wade and Extract Mode; Tesla lists up to 16 inches of ground clearance in Extract Mode on applicable configurations.

All-terrain tires and low-mounted battery weight help traction, but the truck remains exceptionally wide and heavy. Large wheels, specialty tires and expensive body components increase the cost of trail damage. Higher ride height does not turn it into a conventional narrow rock-crawling pickup.

Interior, displays and driver assistance

The current Tesla specification page lists an 18.5-inch front display, a 9.4-inch rear display on specified configurations and seating for five adults. Tesla app integration, navigation with charging-route planning, climate controls, heated and cooled seats and over-the-air software updates are central to the experience.

Digital controls replace many physical switches, and steer-by-wire changes steering feel and control behavior. Check visibility, rear-seat comfort, ingress height and garage clearance during a test drive. Full Self-Driving (Supervised) remains supervised driver assistance, not autonomous driving; the driver must continuously monitor the road and system.

Power outlets and Powershare

Tesla identifies two 120-volt cabin outlets, two 120-volt bed outlets and a 240-volt bed outlet on equipped vehicles. Its current presentation cites up to 9.6 kW of total output. The truck can power tools, devices and another EV through compatible equipment.

Powershare Home Backup is not automatic whole-home backup. Tesla says it requires compatible hardware, suitable electrical capacity and installation by a Tesla Certified Installer. Panel configuration, local code, parking location and delivery status determine eligibility. See the Cybertruck FAQ.

Charging

The Cybertruck uses Tesla Superchargers and supports home Level 2 charging through a Wall Connector or compatible Mobile Connector setup. Tesla lists peak charging capability up to 325 kW and approximately 132–137 miles added in 15 minutes, depending on configuration.

Safety, warranty and recalls

Tesla says the Cybertruck earned a five-star overall NHTSA rating; consult the official NHTSA entry for the underlying assessment rather than treating the statement as proof that every safety measure is class-leading. Camera-based assistance, blind-spot monitoring and other features vary by software version and market.

Coverage Published term
Basic vehicle warranty 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first
Battery and drive-unit warranty 8 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first

Verify exclusions, transfer rules and degradation language for the specific vehicle.

Documented 2024 recall issues

  • Certain vehicles built November 13, 2023 through September 14, 2024 received a rearview-camera software remedy requiring version 2024.32.5.2 or later: Tesla recall notice.
  • NHTSA campaign 24V-457 covered certain vehicles manufactured November 13, 2023 through May 26, 2024; read the NHTSA report for the exact defect.
  • An optional off-road light-bar retrofit recall addressed incorrect primer and possible separation: Tesla notice.
  • Additional campaigns involve accelerator-pedal trim, wipers, cantrail components, drive inverters, cameras and lighting software. Review Tesla’s recall hub and the vehicle’s VIN.

Ownership costs and used-buying checks

Beyond the purchase price, plan for home electrical work, insurance, high-cost tires, stainless-steel body repairs, accessories, software subscriptions and potentially limited repair capacity. Insurance varies widely by state, driver, insurer and repair network.

  7. Obtain an insurance quote before purchase.

Cybertruck versus alternatives

Alternative Where it may be stronger Trade-offs to examine
Ford F-150 Lightning Conventional cab and bed, familiar controls and broad Ford service coverage Less extreme acceleration and different charging and towing characteristics
Rivian R1T Strong off-road capability, premium interior and a smaller exterior footprint Different service coverage, payload and towing compromises
Chevrolet Silverado EV/GMC Sierra EV Large platform and strong range potential on applicable model years Size, agility, pricing and equipment vary by model year
Gasoline or diesel full-size pickup Fast refueling and often more predictable heavy-load towing logistics Fuel, emissions and maintenance costs

Compare actual transaction price, tested highway range, loaded towing range, payload after passengers, charging access, bed usability, service availability, warranty, incentives, insurance and depreciation—not headline acceleration alone.

Who should buy a 2024 Cybertruck?

It suits buyers who specifically value Tesla’s ecosystem, unusual design, rapid acceleration, integrated power and occasional high-capacity towing, and who can accommodate its width and price. It is a weaker choice for buyers needing inexpensive repairs, narrow-trail access, conventional accessories, maximum payload alongside a heavy trailer, minimal downtime or predictable long-distance towing range.

For a new purchase, the truck makes sense only when its distinctive capabilities justify the premium. A used example can be compelling, but only after a VIN recall check, warranty review, battery and charging inspection, tire inspection and confirmation that local service can support it.
