1Password vs Zoho Vault: Key Differences, Plans, and Who Each Suits in 2026

1Password is the more straightforward fit for paid personal and family vaults; Zoho Vault merits a look for its free tier and per-user business controls. Compare billing terms, sharing, recovery, and required integrations before choosing.

Choose 1Password first if you want a clearly packaged personal or family plan with shared vaults. Put Zoho Vault on your shortlist if you need a free personal tier, low per-user business pricing, or team controls such as IP restrictions and directory authentication. The right choice depends on how you share access, recover accounts, and administer users—not on a security winner inferred from vendor descriptions.

Which service fits your situation?

  • One person or household: 1Password has consumer plans for one person and families of five. Zoho Vault has a free edition for personal password management, but the free tier is not the same bundle as a paid 1Password plan.
  • Small or growing team: Zoho Vault’s paid editions are priced per user and add team features such as sharing, role-based permissions, reporting, and IP restrictions, depending on tier.
  • Organization with identity requirements: Zoho Vault Enterprise lists AD/LDAP, Azure AD, SAML 2.0 authentication, and Okta group sync. Confirm the exact provider and provisioning workflow you need before choosing a tier.

For a household, compare the cost after any introductory promotion and decide how private and shared information should be separated. For a business, start with required controls and seat count, then check current checkout pricing.

What you get for a household

1Password: paid personal and family plans

1Password lists an Individual plan for one seat and a Families plan with five seats. Families includes unlimited shared vaults and simple access controls. Each person can keep private information separate from items deliberately placed in a shared vault, which helps avoid making every saved item visible to the household. 1Password also describes temporary, expiring share links; check the recipient and expiration controls when sharing outside the family.

Zoho Vault: a free personal starting point

Zoho Vault advertises a forever-free edition for personal password management, as well as a trial of paid business features. Its comparison lists unlimited password storage and offline access across editions. Sharing and advanced team features depend on the edition, so check the current plan matrix if you expect to share credentials or add users.

What teams should compare in Zoho Vault

Zoho’s plan matrix distinguishes business capabilities by tier. Standard lists password sharing, role-based permissions, reports, and IP restrictions. Sharing folders and breached-password alerts are listed in Professional and Enterprise; geolocation restrictions and break-glass accounts are also listed in those tiers. Cloud-app single sign-on and SAML 2.0 are listed in Enterprise.

How the vendors describe security

1Password describes account protection as an account password combined with a Secret Key. Its security-model documentation says public-key cryptography is used for sharing, alongside server-based authentication for sync and access management. These are 1Password’s descriptions of its design, not results of an independent head-to-head security test. 1Password security.

Zoho’s comparison lists AES-256 encryption across its editions and passwordless vault-unlock options including Zoho OneAuth, Windows Hello, Touch ID, passkeys, and YubiKey. These vendor statements do not establish that the two products use identical architectures or provide a basis to rank one as more secure. Zoho Vault plan comparison.

Data location and regional requirements

Zoho says signup location determines the initially assigned data center and that users can change data-center location. If your organization has jurisdiction-specific data-residency obligations, check the vendor’s current terms and confirm which data center and contractual commitments apply before storing credentials there. Zoho Vault.

A practical way to decide

  1. Set the user count and use case. Distinguish an individual or household subscription from per-user business licensing; the listed prices are not direct equivalents.
  2. List required sharing rules. For a household, decide what stays private and what belongs in shared vaults. For a team, identify role permissions, reports, restrictions, and emergency access needs.
  3. Check identity requirements. If you need a specific directory, SAML, or group-sync workflow, verify the required provider and tier rather than assuming all paid editions include it.
  4. Compare the full billing term. Include the first-year 1Password offer only for year one, budget for its listed regular renewal price, and confirm Zoho’s current checkout amount for your region and billing cadence.
  5. Validate recovery and everyday use. Before migrating credentials, confirm how account recovery works and whether the apps, browsers, devices, and sharing flows suit the people who will use them.
