There is no universal winner between 1Password and Keeper. For personal or family use, compare sharing, recovery, device support and the price you will pay after any introductory offer. For a business, focus on administration, identity integrations, audit needs and privileged-access features—and confirm the exact package and total cost in a written quote.
The comparison below uses vendor-published feature descriptions and plan information available as of October 7, 2026, plus a dated independent comparison. It is not a hands-on security test.

Which one is better for your situation?
| Use case | What the available information favors | What to verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Individual or family | 1Password’s US plan page clearly describes an Individual plan and a Families plan for five users, along with shared vaults, secure sharing and Watchtower alerts. | Compare Keeper’s current price and included features in your region, as well as recovery, supported devices, autofill and sharing with people who do not have an account. 1Password’s plan details are on its Individuals & Families page. |
| Business | Keeper’s vendor materials emphasize granular permissions, multiple identity providers in one tenant, and KeeperPAM-related privileged-access capabilities. 1Password’s business materials highlight guest accounts, Watchtower and developer workflows. | Check the exact tier, add-ons, support, identity and provisioning requirements, audit needs, secrets workflows, and privileged-access requirements against a written quote from each vendor. |
| Security-first buyer | Both vendors describe zero-knowledge approaches and AES-256 encryption. Their architectures differ, but the descriptions do not establish a categorical real-world security winner. | Assess account recovery, team administration and the security practices your own users can follow—not just encryption terminology. |
These feature descriptions come from the vendors’ own materials: 1Password’s comparison, its March 2026 business comparison, and Keeper’s comparison page, which says its information was current to August 6, 2026.

1Password’s published US prices
As checked October 7, 2026, 1Password’s US page displayed annual-billing prices of $2.99 per month for Individual and $4.49 per month for Families, alongside original displayed prices of $3.99 and $5.99. The page also advertised an extra 25% off the first 12 months for new subscribers who sign up directly through 1Password.com with annual billing; that promotion was not available through app stores or other third-party stores. Both plans showed a 14-day trial. These are page prices and a dated promotion, not a guarantee of what a future renewal will cost.

Keeper’s US consumer prices are not established here
The Keeper comparison available for this article is a UK page, and the reviewed sources do not provide a legible, current US consumer-price table. TechRadar’s comparison showed other price figures, but those do not resolve Keeper’s current US list prices or renewal terms. Check Keeper’s live checkout for your location and billing period before comparing totals; do not treat a secondary price snapshot as a current quote.
How do the consumer plans differ?
1Password’s Families plan is described as covering five users, each with a private vault, plus shared vaults, simple admin controls and the ability to invite up to five family members. Its page also lists secure sharing with automatic expirations, password and passkey storage, Watchtower security alerts, and imports from Keeper and other password managers. See the current plan page for the vendor’s details.
Rank #2
- Requires 3 "AAA" batteries (included)
- Unit auto-locks for 30 minutes after 5 consecutive incorrect PINs
That gives a family buyer concrete limits and features to check against their needs, but it does not establish that Keeper’s comparable plan has fewer or more features. For either product, confirm how many people can use the plan, whether each gets a private space, how shared items work, and what happens when someone leaves the household. Also test the devices and browsers your household actually uses, autofill behavior, passkey support, recovery options, and export or import steps.

What do their security claims mean?
Both companies describe zero-knowledge designs and AES-256 encryption. In 1Password’s description, an account password is paired with a unique Secret Key created on the user’s device. Keeper describes encrypting individual records and folders with AES-256 keys, local encryption and decryption, TLS 1.2/1.3 plus an additional AES transmission key, and HSM integration. These are vendor descriptions of their systems, not independent proof that either product is categorically safer.
Rank #3
1Password’s March 2026 comparison says both companies conduct regular third-party security audits. Treat that as a vendor-authored statement, not as a substitute for examining audit scope, timing and any documentation available to your organization. Neither encryption algorithms nor the phrase “zero knowledge” alone settle practical questions such as account recovery, administrator access, user behavior or business controls. The relevant vendor descriptions appear in 1Password’s comparison, its business comparison and Keeper’s comparison.
What should a business buyer compare?
Business editions can differ substantially by plan and add-on, so a brand-level feature checklist is not enough. 1Password’s business comparison highlights guest accounts, Watchtower and developer workflows. Keeper’s vendor comparison emphasizes granular permissions, multiple identity providers in one tenant, and KeeperPAM and related privileged-access capabilities. Those are points to investigate, not proof that every capability is included in every subscription.

- Identity and access: Ask which identity providers and single sign-on configurations are supported on the quoted tier, and whether more than one provider can be used in the same tenant.
- Provisioning and administration: Confirm how accounts are provisioned and removed, what permissions administrators can delegate, and whether guest access meets your collaboration needs.
- Monitoring and audit: Determine which security alerts, audit records and reporting are included, and how long records are retained.
- Developer and privileged access: Map secrets workflows, privileged-access management and session-related needs to named features and plan tiers.
- Cost and support: Request a written quote listing users, required add-ons, support level, billing term and renewal terms.
1Password’s vendor-authored business comparison is dated March 24, 2026; Keeper’s comparison page gives an information date of August 6, 2026. Confirm availability and packaging directly with the vendors before making a procurement decision.
How to make the final choice
- Set the context. Decide whether you are buying for one person, a household or an organization; consumer plan features do not answer business requirements.
- Write down must-haves. For personal use, prioritize sharing, recovery, passkeys, devices and browsers. For business use, specify identity, provisioning, audit, secrets and privileged-access requirements.
- Check the actual offer. Compare the same region, billing period, user count and renewal period. Treat introductory discounts separately from later pricing.
- Validate the workflow. Use the vendors’ available trial or evaluation process to confirm import, autofill, sharing and administration in the devices or environment you rely on.
- Compare the complete cost. For a business, use written quotes that include required tiers, add-ons and support. For a household, compare the total annual bill and the plan’s member and sharing limits.
For another perspective, TechRadar’s 2026 comparison is an independent snapshot, while its password-manager guide provides broader category context. Price details can differ by region, billing terms, promotion and update date, so use current vendor checkout or quotes for the purchase decision.
