Small changes to reach, display, and automation settings can remove everyday friction on a Samsung Galaxy phone. These 15 options are starting points, not a universal checklist: feature names and availability vary by model, One UI version, and sometimes region. If a path below does not match your phone, search for the setting by name in the Settings app.
Which Galaxy settings make common actions easier to reach?
1. One-handed mode
One-handed mode temporarily shrinks the display so controls are easier to reach with one hand. On supported phones, go to Settings > Advanced features > One-handed mode, then choose a gesture or button trigger. You can reposition the smaller display. Some features may not work while it is active, and Samsung says the display returns to its usual size when the screen turns off or the phone locks. Samsung’s US instructions describe the control.

2. One Hand Operation+
For thumb-accessible shortcuts without shrinking the whole screen, Samsung documents One Hand Operation+ as a separate Galaxy Store app. It lets you assign actions such as opening favorite apps or taking a screenshot to edge-swiping gestures; its handles can be adjusted for your hand and case. It is distinct from the built-in One-handed mode and is optional. See Samsung UK’s setup guide.

3. Assistant menu
The Assistant menu provides an on-screen way to access selected device controls and actions. It may help if reaching hardware buttons or performing certain gestures is difficult. Find it under Accessibility settings if available; its exact location and options vary. Samsung lists it among its interaction and dexterity tools in its Galaxy accessibility guidance.

4. Touch-and-hold delay
If a long press triggers too quickly or too slowly, adjust the touch-and-hold delay in Accessibility settings. This changes how long you must keep a finger on the screen before the phone treats the touch as a hold. Try a small adjustment first, since a longer delay also means waiting longer for menus or other long-press actions.
5. Tap duration and repeated-touch controls
Accessibility options such as tap duration and controls for ignoring repeated touches can make touch input easier to manage. They are useful only when they address a specific interaction difficulty: changing them may affect how quickly or consistently ordinary taps register. Check Samsung’s accessibility instructions for examples; available controls depend on device and software.

Look for it in Accessibility settings and review the setup and permissions shown on your phone.

If you use an accessibility feature regularly, set up its supported shortcut rather than navigating through Settings each time. Samsung documents direct-access options that can include a hardware-button shortcut or an accessibility button. The available shortcut methods depend on the model and software; Samsung’s accessibility guide explains the kinds of options to look for.

Which settings can make the screen easier to read?
8. Screen zoom
Screen zoom enlarges interface elements, making some on-screen controls easier to see and tap. Look under Settings > Display > Screen zoom on phones with that path. Increasing zoom also means less content may fit on the screen at once. Samsung includes Screen zoom in its display troubleshooting guidance.
9. Font size and high-contrast fonts
Accessibility’s visibility options can adjust font size and, on supported devices, enable high-contrast fonts. Increasing text size can improve legibility but may make some screens show fewer words or require more scrolling. Samsung lists these among its vision-related accessibility controls.

10. Color filters and color adjustments
Color filters and other color-related accessibility controls can change how colors appear on the display. They may be worth checking if particular colors or contrasts are difficult for you to distinguish. Settings differ by model and software; Samsung describes relevant choices in its accessibility guidance.
11. Dark mode
Dark mode switches supported menus and interface areas to a darker appearance. Try it if that suits your preference, especially in dim surroundings; it does not guarantee an eye-health benefit or a battery-life improvement. On supported software, find the Dark or Light choice under Settings > Display. Samsung documents the display choice in its troubleshooting guide.

- Multi-layer defense: solid inner shell and soft outer cover (No Built in Screen Protector)

12. Eye comfort shield
Eye comfort shield changes the display’s color temperature to a warmer tone. Supported phones may offer Adaptive or Custom behavior, scheduling, and a color-temperature slider. Samsung Canada says the feature requires One UI 3.1 or later; its presence and controls still depend on the device. A warmer display is a preference to test, not a medical or sleep treatment. See Samsung Canada’s instructions.
13. Extra dim
Extra dim provides an additional way to reduce perceived screen brightness on devices that include it. If the display still feels too bright at the lowest ordinary brightness setting, search Settings for “Extra dim” and check whether your phone supports it. Samsung lists it among display-related controls in its Galaxy display troubleshooting guide.

14. Arrange Quick settings
Quick settings is more useful when the toggles you actually use are easy to find. Edit or arrange the panel to bring frequent controls forward rather than repeatedly opening full Settings. The gesture differs by One UI version: Samsung Canada’s January 2026 guidance says newer devices running One UI 7 access Notifications and Quick settings separately, while One UI 6.1.1 or earlier uses a combined swipe flow. Follow the instructions for your version in Samsung’s Quick settings guide.

15. Modes and Routines
Modes and Routines can apply phone actions when a chosen condition is met. For example, a routine could mute notification sounds or adjust brightness for a recurring context; a mode can configure focus-related behavior such as Do not disturb. Before relying on a routine, review its condition and every action so it does not change something you need. Samsung notes that availability can vary, including for Bixby-related functionality. See Samsung’s Modes and Routines guide.
How to choose what to change first
- Hard to reach: Try One-handed mode first; use One Hand Operation+ only if you want configurable edge gestures.
- Hard to see: Test Screen zoom or font size, then consider contrast and color options if they match your needs.
- Too bright or visually uncomfortable: Try Dark mode, Extra dim, or Eye comfort shield individually so you can tell which display change suits you.
- Too many taps: Reorder Quick settings or use an accessibility shortcut for a feature you already rely on.
- Repeated adjustments: Use a routine for a predictable situation, and verify its actions before depending on it.
Change one setting at a time, use it for a while, and reverse it if it makes another task harder. Samsung’s menu paths are examples rather than guarantees for every Galaxy model; searching Settings for the feature name is often the quickest way to find an equivalent control.
