These are practical alternatives to extra taps—not guaranteed speed boosts—and availability and menu labels can vary by phone, app version, carrier, and region.
How can I text faster on Android?
Try the input method that fits the moment. Gboard offers glide, voice, and handwriting input; none is necessarily faster or more accurate for every person.
1. Glide across the keyboard with Gboard
With Gboard open, slide your finger from letter to letter to form a word instead of tapping each key. This is useful when one-handed typing is more comfortable. Gboard lists Glide Typing as a feature, though the precise controls may vary with your setup. Gboard on Google Play.
2. Dictate with Gboard voice typing
Tap the microphone on Gboard and speak the message when typing is inconvenient. Review the result before sending, especially names, numbers, and punctuation; speech recognition can make mistakes.

3. Try handwriting input
Gboard also lists handwriting as an input option. It may suit people who prefer writing characters on the screen, but the feature listing does not establish a universal stylus requirement. Check Gboard’s available language and input settings on your device.
How do I schedule a text on Android?
4. Schedule a message in Google Messages
- Open the conversation in Google Messages and write your message.
- Touch and hold Send.
- Choose one of the suggested times, or select a date and time, then confirm the schedule.
If the phone has no Wi-Fi or mobile data at the scheduled time, Google Messages sends the message when it reconnects. See Google Messages’ feature instructions for current details.

How can I find and handle messages with fewer steps?
5. Search old conversations
Use the search function in Google Messages to look for message content or other matching items. Filters can help narrow results when a conversation contains many messages.
6. Reply to the specific message you mean
In Google Messages, swipe the message you want to answer from left to right. The reply quotes that message, making it easier to keep a fast-moving conversation clear.

7. Copy a verification code from a notification or message
When Google Messages recognizes a verification code, tap Copy {Code} and paste it into the app or website requesting it. The copy option appears when the message is recognized; it is not available for every code.
8. Enlarge a message without changing your phone’s overall text size
Select a message in Google Messages, then pinch outward to make it larger. Pinch inward to restore its default size. This can help when you need to inspect a particular message more closely.

How can I manage voice messages more conveniently?
9. Review a voice message before sending
Google Messages lets you record a voice message as a draft. Listen to it before sending; it is not sent until you tap Send. This is useful if you want to check that the recording is clear or complete.
10. Read a transcript of a received voice message
When transcription is available and enabled, you can use View transcript to read a received voice message. If that option is missing, check Google Messages settings; access depends on feature availability and settings on your device. See Google Messages’ text and voice message help.

Which Google Messages features are worth enabling?
11. Turn on RCS for compatible conversations
RCS can support higher-quality media sharing, typing indicators, read receipts, and group-chat controls, using Wi-Fi or mobile data. For the listed RCS features to work in a conversation, all participants need RCS enabled. Availability depends on provider, carrier, device, and region. Google’s RCS help page explains the service and requirements.
RCS is not simply a universal upgrade to every text conversation: compatibility and connection determine which features are available. Google says RCS conversations between Google Messages users can use end-to-end encryption. Its Android product page also notes that standard text rates may apply if a carrier verifies a number during setup. Check Google’s current Google Messages and RCS information.
Cross-platform encryption availability is time- and carrier-dependent. In a May 11, 2026 announcement, Google described a beta rollout for iPhone users on iOS 26.5 with supported carriers and Android users on the latest Google Messages—not blanket availability for every Android-to-iPhone RCS chat. Google’s rollout announcement gives the stated conditions.
12. Try supported cross-device and assistance features
Google advertises cross-device conversations and features such as suggested replies, reminders, Magic Compose, and voice-note noise cancellation. These are options to explore rather than universal Android texting controls: availability depends on supported apps and devices and can change. Check Google’s Google Messages feature page and the options shown in your app before relying on a specific feature.
