There is no well-supported, apples-to-apples ranking of the 12 “best” passwordless products—or a verified price list for 12 vendors. The useful way to compare them is by what they authenticate: employees, customers, or users of an application you are building. The evidence is strongest for Microsoft Entra ID with Intune, Cisco Duo Passwordless, PingOne for Customers Passwordless, and Okta’s customer-identity passkeys. Other named products are worth investigating, but the available comparisons do not establish their current pricing or a consistent feature set.

What passwordless authentication means for a buyer

Passwordless is an umbrella for different sign-in methods and deployment patterns, not a single interchangeable feature. Microsoft’s documentation covers Windows Hello, FIDO2 security keys, and passkeys, and explains how the experience varies by operating system. On Windows, device sign-in can connect with app single sign-on; on macOS and mobile, platform authentication, app sign-in, brokering, and passkeys play different roles. Microsoft’s passwordless guidance describes Entra ID as the identity authority and Intune as the device configuration and policy layer.

Nor does passwordless automatically mean phishing-resistant. Hardware-backed asymmetric credentials can resist interception and replay, but some passwordless flows remain exposed to social engineering, prompt manipulation, or MFA fatigue. Ask what exact credential and fallback methods a product uses, and what policy administrators can enforce, rather than treating “passwordless” as a security rating.

How the options differ

Option Best-fit scope supported by the available information Features established by the cited material Pricing evidence
Microsoft Entra ID with Intune Workforce identity and managed-device deployments Microsoft describes Entra ID for identity and SSO, and Intune for device readiness, configuration, compliance, and app deployment. The guidance covers Windows Hello, FIDO2 keys, passkeys, Conditional Access, and platform-specific requirements. No price established here. Verify current licensing and platform requirements; Microsoft lists Entra ID P1 for several capabilities, including FIDO2 keys, passkeys, and Conditional Access enforcement, P2 for risk-based Conditional Access, and Intune Plan 1 for device compliance and configuration profiles. Source
Cisco Duo Passwordless Organizations adding passwordless sign-in to SAML/OIDC applications, including environments with an existing identity provider Duo documents passwordless for SAML/OIDC applications and an arrangement with an external SAML identity provider. Under that documented setup, applications already federated to an existing provider may not need to be reconfigured to point to Duo SSO. Duo also describes roaming WebAuthn authenticators, including passkeys and FIDO2 security keys. Check plan prerequisites and policy settings. Duo documentation Not stated in the cited documentation.
PingOne for Customers Passwordless Customer identity: a service authenticating its own users Ping lists SSO, user management, MFA, risk management, prebuilt passwordless flows, gradual migration journeys, real-time threat detection, and customer profile management. Ping’s pricing and features page Ping directs buyers to sales for the customer-passwordless product. The same page lists a 30-day trial. Its separate Plus package starts at $50,000 annually and includes adaptive MFA; that figure is not a price for Passwordless.
Okta customer-identity passkeys Customer identity, specifically the passkey capabilities described in Okta’s customer identity datasheet The September 2025 datasheet describes WebAuthn/FIDO2 passkeys and cross-device use, such as registering on a phone and signing in on a laptop. Do not assume those details apply to every Okta product or plan. Okta datasheet, September 2025 Not stated in the cited datasheet.

Other candidates—and what the evidence does not establish

A 2026 vendor overview names Auth0, HYPR, Stytch, Yubico, 1Kosmos, WorkOS, and SenseCrypt alongside Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, and Ping Identity. It groups the market into enterprise identity clouds, developer platforms, hardware keys, and biometric identity, but does not provide an independently validated ranking. SenseCrypt’s overview is a vendor-authored candidate map, not a neutral test.

#1 Best Overall
Yubico - Security Key C NFC - Basic Compatibility - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB-C or NFC, FIDO Certified
  • POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
  • WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
  • TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
  • BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.

A separate vendor-authored comparison from WorkOS covers WorkOS, Cisco Duo, Okta Adaptive MFA, Microsoft Entra ID, and Ping Identity. It lists FIDO2/passkey support across those five and points to differences in APIs, SDKs, and enterprise SSO. Use it as a lead for questions to verify, not as independent proof that the products are equivalent. WorkOS comparison

These sources name 11 vendors or platforms in total, but they do not provide enough consistent evidence to call them the 11—or 12—best solutions, or to fill in a comparable feature-and-price matrix. A FIDO2/WebAuthn security key is a twelfth option category rather than a twelfth vendor: Duo names Yubico and Feitian as examples of roaming authenticators. Compatibility depends on the devices and policies in your environment.

Rank #2
Yubico - YubiKey 5C NFC - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB-C or NFC, FIDO Certified - Protect Your Online Accounts

  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
  • MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
  • PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts

Choose by identity scope first

For employee sign-in

Start with the identity provider and device-management tools already in place. Microsoft’s model separates identity and SSO in Entra ID from device configuration and compliance in Intune. If you use another identity provider, Duo documents a route for passwordless authentication with an external SAML provider. In either case, check the exact federation flow and required plan before assuming you can add passwordless without changing application configuration.

For customer accounts

Compare products designed for customer identity, not just workforce single sign-on. Ping lists customer management and migration features alongside its passwordless flows; Okta’s cited passkey information is specifically for customer identity. Confirm the user journey you need—enrollment, cross-device use, recovery, and fallback—and ask for a quote based on your expected user and transaction volumes. The cited material does not establish comparable current prices.

Rank #3
Yubico - YubiKey 5 NFC - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB-A or NFC, FIDO Certified - Protect Your Online Accounts
  • POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The YubiKey 5 NFC is the most versatile physical passkey, protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts
  • WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5 NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5 NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate.

For authentication built into an application

Evaluate developer-facing options on the APIs, SDKs, and enterprise SSO integrations your application actually needs. WorkOS’s comparison identifies those as differentiators among a subset of providers, but it is vendor-authored and does not resolve whether a specific platform fits your architecture. Validate the integration against your own identity model and operating requirements.

Compare security and usability at the method level

  • Credential: Ask whether the flow uses a passkey, device-bound credential, roaming FIDO2 key, push approval, or one-time code. These methods do not provide identical phishing resistance.
  • Policy: Determine whether administrators can require a stronger method for sensitive access and restrict weaker fallbacks. A passwordless label alone does not tell you what the policy enforces.
  • Device coverage: Verify supported browsers and operating systems, managed and unmanaged device behavior, and whether a credential can be used across devices. Microsoft’s documentation specifically notes platform requirements can change.
  • Recovery: Map enrollment, lost-device recovery, account recovery, and fallback controls before rollout. The cited vendor descriptions do not establish that these work the same way across products.
  • Administration and integration: Check SAML/OIDC federation, APIs or SDKs, directory and provisioning needs, and compatibility with your existing identity provider and device policies.

Calculate cost on a like-for-like basis

Do not compare a quoted annual package with a per-user monthly plan or assume a trial implies a particular paid price. Ask each vendor to itemize the license tier, seats or active users, transaction or usage charges, add-ons, minimums, implementation, and ongoing administration. Normalize the quote to the same user population, duration, and deployment scope. Of the products detailed above, Ping publishes a “Contact Sales for Pricing” direction for customer Passwordless; the other cited material does not provide enough pricing information for a fair cross-vendor comparison.

A practical shortlist process

  1. Define the users: Specify whether you are securing employees, customers, or users inside an application.
  2. Write down the environment: Record identity providers, federation protocols, directories, operating systems, browsers, and managed-device requirements.
  3. Set the security bar: Name the credential methods you will accept, the fallbacks you will permit, and the controls needed for sensitive access.
  4. Test the whole journey: Validate enrollment, routine sign-in, cross-device use where relevant, recovery, and support procedures—not just the initial demonstration.
  5. Request a scoped quote: Use the same number and type of users, expected usage, required features, and contract period for every vendor.

What performance claims can—and cannot—tell you

Okta’s September 2025 customer identity datasheet says passkeys had a “4x higher login success rate” and “2x faster login times” compared with passwords, and cites a Google source for those figures. They are vendor-reproduced claims, not independent comparative results established here; they should not be treated as a forecast for your users or as evidence that one vendor outperforms another. The cited material does not establish a market-wide adoption rate or a comparable independent benchmark.
