The iPhone’s onscreen keyboard has more built in than most people use: slide-to-type, a one-handed layout, text shortcuts, a cursor you drive with the Space bar, and gesture-based undo. Each tip below uses the gesture or Settings path Apple Support documents. Where a feature depends on language or region, the tip says so.
Type faster
1. Swipe words with QuickPath
In any text field, touch and hold the first letter of a word. Slide across the remaining letters without lifting, then lift your finger at the end of the word. Apple’s onscreen keyboard guide puts it this way: you can tap individual keys, or slide from one letter to the next without lifting your finger, with the caveat that QuickPath isn’t available for all languages. Apple points readers to its iOS and iPadOS Feature Availability website to check yours. If the gesture does nothing, your current keyboard language probably doesn’t support it.
2. End a sentence with a double-tap on Space
Double-tap the Space bar and the iPhone inserts a period and a space. You then continue typing with the next word ready to capitalize, with no reach to the punctuation key.
3. Type accents and alternate characters
Touch and hold a letter, number, or symbol, then slide to the character you want. Holding e, for example, offers é. Lift your finger on the option you want to insert it.

#1 Best Overall
- Can't Connect the Bluetooth? Please reset the keyboard and then reconnect the Bluetooth: 1. Turn on the keyboarad; 2. Press and hold the first and the last key at the top row of the keyboard until all indicators start flashing; 3. Bluetooth light flickers quickly, auto entering Bluetooth pairing mode (If not, press Fn + 1 or 2); 4. Search and find "Wireless keyboard".
- Multi-OS Compatible: The keyboard is widely compatible with Android, Windows and iOS devices. Also the basic typing function works with other OS devices such as fire tablets.
- Connect 2 Devices: Seamless switching between 2 Bluetooth devices (iOS/Android/Windows) with single-tap transitions (Fn+"1"/ "2").
- Orange Keys for Productivity Boost: The color-coded design help you to position the keys effortlessly and reduce mistyping. The orange keys are more visible than standard keys, engineered for speed typists.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: Only 6oz weight and slim 0.6in profile fits in most handbags. The flexible hinge allows you to fold it up for travel – perfect for coffee shops, flights, or campus life.
Reduce thumb reach
4. Move the keyboard to one side
Touch and hold the Emoji key or the Switch Keyboard key, then choose the left-handed or right-handed layout. The keys shift toward that side so your thumb covers them more easily. To return to the full-width layout, tap the arrow at the edge of the shifted keyboard to center it again.
Save repeated text
5. Expand a short trigger into a full phrase
Text Replacement lets you type a few characters and get a whole phrase. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement, tap the add button, and fill in the Phrase and Shortcut fields. Apple’s own example is the shortcut “omw” for “On my way!” Email addresses, reference numbers, and sign-offs also work well as phrases.
6. Stop the iPhone from “correcting” a word you meant
The same Text Replacement screen can protect a name, slang term, or technical word from autocorrection. Add an entry with the word or phrase you want, and leave the Shortcut field blank. Apple documents this as the way to keep the word as typed.
Edit precisely
7. Turn the keyboard into a trackpad
Touch and hold the Space bar until the keyboard turns light gray, then slide your finger to move the insertion point. This is much more accurate than tapping the text itself, especially for small corrections in the middle of a word.

8. Select text from trackpad mode
While you’re in trackpad mode, hold the keyboard with a second finger and move the first finger to adjust the selection. This extends the cursor trick from tip 7, so you can place the cursor and select without lifting out of the keyboard.
9. Undo and redo with three fingers
Apple documents a three-finger swipe left to undo and a three-finger swipe right to redo. Use it after an accidental deletion or a bad autocorrect.

Switch input methods
10. Mix Dictation with typing
You can dictate in text fields and switch between voice and touch typing while the keyboard stays open. This suits long passages by voice, followed by typed fixes for names and punctuation. Dictation availability varies by language and region, so check Apple’s feature availability list if the option doesn’t appear.
Settings worth checking
- Keyboard sounds and haptics: Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback controls whether keys click or vibrate.
- Predictive text, autocorrection, and related typing features: Settings > General > Keyboard. If any hack above misbehaves, such as no QuickPath or no double-space period, check this list first.
Optional aside: if you also use an external keyboard
None of the tips above need extra hardware. If you already pair a Magic Keyboard, Apple documents Command-Space to open Search, text replacements, and changes to modifier-key behavior. That is a separate workflow from the onscreen techniques here.

A note on evidence
Apple’s guides describe how each feature works. They don’t publish typing-speed or accuracy comparisons, so this article makes no claims about how much time any tip saves. Try each one for a day or two and keep the ones that fit your habits.
