Several GameCube favorites still make a strong case for a modern revival, but “deserve a remaster” is an editorial judgment, not a Nintendo announcement. This list weighs how hard each game is to access today, what updated technology could improve, and how distinctive its design remains. There is an important 2026 caveat: Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 GameCube Classics catalogue already includes four of these originals and lists a fifth as upcoming. Those subscription releases reproduce the original games; they are not the same thing as standalone remasters.
What counts as a game that deserves a remaster?
The ten picks below come from Cheat Code Central’s August 18, 2026 article, which framed its choices around present-day access, the potential benefit of technical updates, and lasting design quality. That is a useful way to assess the candidates, but the order and selection are editorial rather than an independently verified ranking.

For clarity, this article also considers the scope of intervention: whether a game needs a resolution and control update, added content, or a remake that reworks pacing and mechanics. These categories are recommendations, not known Nintendo plans.
Access claims need a regional and date-specific qualification. As checked October 7, 2026, Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 GameCube Classics catalogue includes F-Zero GX, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Star Fox Adventures, and Luigi’s Mansion; Pokémon Colosseum is listed as upcoming. The service is available only on Switch 2, requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, and its catalogue may differ by region. Nintendo describes GameCube Classics as reproductions of original games, with some differences in performance and presentation—not standalone remasters. Nintendo Australia’s GameCube Classics page is the place to check current local availability.

Which ten GameCube games make the case?
1. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
Eternal Darkness is the strongest candidate for a revival built around presentation rather than simply sharper textures. Its horror story crosses multiple historical eras, while sanity effects disrupt the player’s expectations of what the game is showing. Carefully updated lighting, sound, and display effects could make those disruptions more effective on modern screens without changing the central idea.
The source article describes the game as lacking modern availability and raises unresolved rights complications. Those claims are not established here as universal facts: access depends on territory and platform, and no definitive legal ruling is cited. A remaster would need to preserve the unsettling presentation while making any technical changes serve the original’s psychological tricks.
2. F-Zero GX
F-Zero GX remains a natural candidate for a high-speed racing revival. Its demanding courses and story mode give a new release more to offer than a visual refresh alone. A content-enhanced edition could explore a connection to the arcade game F-Zero AX, as the source article proposes, though that would be an addition—not an existing feature of the GameCube Classics version.

A separate remaster could still be valuable if it delivered meaningful presentation or content improvements, rather than treating catalogue access itself as proof that the game has been remastered.
Rank #2
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
3. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Path of Radiance brought the strategy-RPG series to a home console with the Tellius setting and a story that engages with prejudice. Its case for a new release is as much about making that story and its tactical maps easier to experience on current hardware as it is about improving image quality.
The source article suggests updated maps and save continuity with Radiant Dawn. Those are ideas for a new edition, not features confirmed for one. The original is included in Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 GameCube Classics catalogue, so it should not be described as unavailable everywhere.
4. Star Fox Adventures
Star Fox Adventures is an unusual entry in its series: a Rare-developed adventure reworked from Dinosaur Planet. A thoughtful remake could keep the adventure structure while tightening combat and pacing—the areas the source article identifies as opportunities for improvement. Reworking those elements would be a larger intervention than a straightforward remaster.

The GameCube original is included in Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 catalogue. That provides one regional route to play it, but does not settle whether a dedicated remake or remaster would be worthwhile.
Rank #3
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
5. Star Fox Assault
Star Fox Assault alternates between Arwing flight, Landmaster driving, and on-foot sections. That mix gives a revival several distinct modes to work with. The source article sees the vehicle portions as the stronger foundation and proposes improving the on-foot mechanics and adding online multiplayer. Those are editorial suggestions, not evidence of a planned update or measured player preference.
A remaster focused on controls and presentation could preserve the original’s format; revising the on-foot play would move closer to a remake. Online features would also require new development and ongoing service decisions rather than a simple graphics upgrade.
6. Luigi’s Mansion
The original Luigi’s Mansion is built around exploring a compact haunted house, making it a good fit for a visual update designed for television. The source article notes that a 3DS remake exists but has not reached home consoles. A dedicated modern home-console edition would therefore answer a different need from that handheld remake.
Nintendo Australia’s Switch 2 GameCube Classics catalogue also includes the original. That subscription access is not the same product as a standalone remake or remaster.
Rank #4
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
7. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg centers its platforming on rolling and using eggs, a mechanic that gives it a clear identity. The source article makes the case for a comparatively modest remaster: update the presentation and preserve the unusual core play rather than rebuilding the game wholesale. It also points to a long gap without a re-release, though that should be understood as the article’s access argument rather than a claim about every territory or platform.
8. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
The Twin Snakes is already a remake of the original PlayStation Metal Gear Solid, adapted for GameCube with mechanics associated with Metal Gear Solid 2 and newly directed cutscenes. Its unusual position—as a remake of one game that could itself be revisited—makes a new edition an interesting preservation question as well as a technical one.
The source article raises rights and franchise-management complications. Without primary legal evidence, those remain the article’s concerns, not a definitive account of who controls what or whether a release is possible.
9. Super Monkey Ball 2
Super Monkey Ball 2 combines precision platforming with a story mode and party games. A modern release could improve presentation while keeping the tight, physics-driven challenges intact; online party modes are another possibility suggested by the source article. That feature would be a proposal for new development, not a confirmed plan or proof of broad demand.
Best Value
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
10. Pokémon Colosseum
Pokémon Colosseum stands apart from the mainline games through its Orre setting and Shadow Pokémon premise. Those elements make it a candidate for a revival that preserves its distinct tone rather than trying to make it resemble a newer mainline entry.
Nintendo Australia lists the GameCube original as upcoming in its Switch 2 GameCube Classics catalogue, so its status is especially time-sensitive. The listing is specific to that regional service; check the catalogue for current release status and do not treat it as confirmation of a standalone remaster.

What makes a remaster precedent?
Nintendo’s Metroid Prime Remastered announcement offers a concrete example of what a GameCube-origin remaster can involve. In February 2023, Nintendo described it as “an HD remaster of the first Metroid Prime game, which originally debuted on the Nintendo GameCube system.” The announcement highlighted HD visuals, enhanced sound, and modern dual-stick controls. That is a useful precedent for possible improvements—not a promise that Nintendo will remaster any game on this list. Nintendo’s announcement of Metroid Prime Remastered gives the official feature description.
How to read the “deserves a remaster” debate
The question is not only which original is most beloved. A useful candidate has a reason to return, a plausible improvement that respects its design, and a realistic scope for the work involved. Catalogue access matters, but it is not the sole measure: a subscription reproduction can make an original playable without delivering a dedicated release with new controls, presentation, or content.
That distinction also helps separate fan preference from evidence. Nintendo Life’s March 2023 poll asked readers, “Which GameCube game do you think deserves the 10/10 remake treatment?” It records a question posed to that page’s audience, not a representative measure of what all players want.
