1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems1 Gigabit Ethernet (Gigabit Ethernet or GbE) is Ethernet operating at a nominal link rate of 1,000 megabits per second (1 Gb/s). That figure describes the connection’s signaling rate—not a promise that downloads or file copies will run at 125 megabytes per second.
What does 1 Gigabit Ethernet mean?
Ethernet is specified by IEEE 802.3, which covers operation at selected rates over different physical media. Gigabit Ethernet is the name for the 1,000 Mb/s speed class; specific labels identify how a link carries that traffic. IEEE describes the standard as covering selected speeds from 1 Mb/s to 400 Gb/s under a common media access control specification and management information base. IEEE 802.3-2022

For example, 1000BASE-T is a copper twisted-pair implementation. 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX, and 1000BASE-CX are other Gigabit Ethernet PHY variants. They do not all use the same medium or interchangeable cabling; the port and cable must match the equipment and link type. IEEE’s PHY listing and its Technology Navigator describe Ethernet’s PHY-specific media and signaling.
Is 1 Gb/s the same as 125 MB/s?
As a unit conversion, yes: 1 gigabit per second equals 1,000 megabits per second, or 125 megabytes per second, using 8 bits per byte. But 125 MB/s is a mathematical conversion of the nominal link rate, not an expected application transfer speed.

- High-Performance Connectivity: This Cat 6 ethernet cable is designed for superior performance, with a 24 AWG copper wire core. It provides universal connectivity as an ethernet cord for LAN network components such as PCs, servers, printers, routers, and more, ensuring reliable and fast network connections
- Advanced Cat6 Technology: Experience Cat6 performance with higher bandwidth at a Cat5e price. This network cable is future-proof, ready for 10-Gigabit Ethernet and backwards compatible with any existing Cat 5 cable network. It meets or exceeds Category 6 performance according to the TIA/EIA 568-C.2 standard
- Reliable Wired Network Solution: Known variously as a Cat6 network cable, ethernet cable Cat 6, or Cat 6 data/LAN cable, this RJ45 cable offers a more secure and reliable connection than wireless networks. It's ideal for internet connections that demand consistency and security
- Durable and Secure Design: The connectors of this ethernet cable feature gold-plated contacts and strain-relief boots for enhanced durability. Bare copper conductors not only improve cable performance but also comply with communication cable specifications
- High-Speed Data Transfer: With up to 550 MHz bandwidth, this ethernet cord is ideal for server applications, cloud computing, video surveillance, and streaming high-definition video. It also supports Power over Ethernet (PoE, PoE+, PoE++) for powering devices like IP cameras, VoIP phones, and wireless access points, ensuring fast and reliable network performance.
Ethernet framing and network and transport protocol headers use some of the link capacity. The actual useful throughput can also be constrained by the sending and receiving devices, congestion, storage, and the type of workload. A port marked 1 Gb/s therefore does not guarantee a 125 MB/s file copy or a particular internet download or upload speed.
How does full duplex affect the rate?
A full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet link can transmit and receive at the same time. Its nominal 1 Gb/s rate applies in each direction; adding the two directions together does not make a single 2 Gb/s user-data connection. IEEE’s Gigabit Ethernet PHY listing includes full-duplex operation. IEEE 802.3-2022

Each Cat 6 internet cable 6 ft goes through rigorous testing to ensure a secure wired internet connection with exceptional speed and reliability.
- Support – Cat6 Ethernet cable with CM grade PVC jacket complies with TIA/EIA 568-C.2, is ETL verified and RoHS compliant. If an item is defective or breaks within a year, we will issue a replacement. For questions or concerns please contact our friendly, USA-based customer Support team.
What cable does 1000BASE-T use?
For a copper 1000BASE-T connection, Category 5 Ethernet cabling is relevant: a 1999 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance technical paper discusses 1000BASE-T over Category 5 copper cabling. Gigabit Ethernet Alliance technical paper
That does not mean every Gigabit Ethernet connection uses Category 5 copper. The 1000BASE-X variants use different physical implementations, and the correct medium depends on the ports at both ends and the equipment’s requirements.

How to interpret a Gigabit Ethernet speed label
- 1 Gb/s or 1,000 Mb/s: the nominal Ethernet link rate.
- 1000BASE-T: a copper twisted-pair PHY; check that the connected equipment and cable meet the link requirements.
- 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX, or 1000BASE-CX: distinct PHY variants, not synonyms for 1000BASE-T.
- Measured transfer speed: useful application throughput, which depends on overhead, endpoints, congestion, and workload—not just the port’s nominal rate.
