If you want something Zelda-related to explore before Nintendo’s next Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Sands of Time has been described in secondary reporting as an unofficial fan-made ROM hack with a new story and other original content. It is not a Nintendo release, and the available reporting does not establish where or how to get it safely. Nintendo’s official Switch 2 listing gives Ocarina of Time a release date of November 5, 2026.
What is The Legend of Zelda: Sands of Time?
A ScreenRant article reproduced by KhanList describes Sands of Time as an unofficial Ocarina of Time ROM hack. In that account, it is a fan project rather than a Nintendo game. The report says it includes a new story and world, dungeons, items, bosses, and soundtrack, with a higher challenge level than the original.

Those details come from secondary coverage; no project-owner or creator page was established in the available sources. Treat the description as reported rather than independently confirmed. The available evidence does not verify the project’s creator, current status, distribution route, base-game requirements, or compatibility, so it cannot support dependable download or setup instructions.

What should you play while you wait?
If you are interested in the fan project, first look for a direct, current source from its creator that explains its status, requirements, compatibility, and distribution. The sources available here do not establish those essentials, so a claim that it is ready to download or play should not be treated as verified guidance.
Rank #2
- Play the original Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Or the Master Quest edition with many bonus features
If you want a confirmed option, use Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing for Ocarina of Time and its November 5, 2026 date. The fan hack may sound appealing to players seeking a more challenging, expanded adventure, but the distinction matters: it is reported fan work, while Nintendo’s listing is the authoritative source for the official release.
