Short answer: Nintendo does not document amiibo support for the original The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The “Link (Ocarina of Time)” amiibo is a physical figure named for that game, and Nintendo lists its reward in Breath of the Wild as a random amount of meat. Its effects are different in other compatible games.
Use the guide below to match a figure with the game, reward type, prerequisites, randomness and scan limits that actually apply. “Amiibo compatible” is not a universal unlock: Nintendo says each game determines what a scan does.

First, separate the Ocarina of Time game from the Ocarina of Time Link figure
The Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 64 versions of Ocarina of Time are not shown in Nintendo’s current amiibo guidance as games with an amiibo feature. You should therefore not expect a scan to unlock Epona, a sword, a costume, a dungeon or any other item in the original game.

Breath of the Wild: the Ocarina of Time Link reward and other Zelda figures
Link (Ocarina of Time)
Scanning the Link (Ocarina of Time) amiibo in Breath of the Wild gives a random amount of meat. Nintendo does not describe a fixed number of cuts or a guaranteed premium type in the cited guide, so a scan should be treated as a variable food-material drop rather than a promised item.
Other classic and crossover figures
Nintendo’s Zelda amiibo guide describes reward types for several figures:
- The original The Legend of Zelda Link can produce barrels, which may contain rupees.
- Wind Waker Zelda can produce plants.
- Wind Waker Toon Link can produce fish.
- Twilight Princess Wolf Link summons Wolf Link. The companion attacks enemies and helps locate items.
These descriptions identify reward categories, not a guarantee that every scan will produce the same contents. A figure’s character name also does not mean the reward must be a matching weapon or costume. Nintendo’s support instructions describe Zelda amiibo rewards generally as helpful items such as fish, plants or a treasure chest, with Wolf Link functioning as an assisting companion.
How to enable amiibo scans
- Progress through the opening section until the amiibo Rune becomes available. Nintendo says this is usually about 45 minutes into play, although the exact timing depends on how quickly you progress.
- Open the in-game menu and select the amiibo option to enable the Rune if it is not already active.
- Choose the amiibo Rune from the ability wheel.
- Place a compatible figure on the console’s NFC reading point when prompted. On a Nintendo Switch, that is the right control stick; on a Switch Lite, use a compatible controller with NFC.
- Collect the chest, materials or companion that appears. If the result is not what you wanted, it is still counted as that day’s use for that figure.
Nintendo’s normal rule is one use per figure per day per Nintendo Account. The rule is per figure, so scanning a different compatible Zelda figure does not consume the first figure’s daily attempt. Rewards such as Epona can appear randomly; do not promise that a particular scan will produce the horse.

Tears of the Kingdom: materials, gear and paraglider fabrics
What Zelda amiibo can provide
In Tears of the Kingdom, compatible Zelda-series amiibo can provide materials, weapons and themed paraglider fabrics. Nintendo’s Explorer’s Guide gives broader category context: classic Zelda-era figures can yield ingredients or other materials, legacy clothing, weapons and shields, and certain figures may summon a familiar horse. Ocarina of Time is one of the represented Zelda eras.
That guide is not a guaranteed one-figure-to-one-item table. The practical result is a themed pool of possibilities, with the exact drop determined by the game. A scan can therefore be useful for materials or equipment without guaranteeing the specific Ocarina of Time item you may be seeking.
Unlocking and scanning
- Advance through the early story until the amiibo ability is unlocked. Nintendo says this normally takes about 45 minutes of gameplay.
- Open the ability wheel and select amiibo.
- Scan the figure at the NFC point when the game displays the placement prompt.
- Open the resulting chest or collect the materials and fabric. If a fabric or other unique reward does not appear, continue scanning on later eligible days.
Nintendo states: “You can use each amiibo figure once per day (per Nintendo Account).” Some unique rewards require repeat scans, so a first attempt is not proof that a figure cannot provide that reward. The daily limit applies to each compatible figure, not to the entire Zelda amiibo collection.

Switch 2 edition qualification
Current Nintendo Support instructions for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition describe an app-based tracking and bonus-use feature. That is an edition-specific feature, not a rule that changes the base Nintendo Switch version. Check the instructions for the edition you own before assuming additional scans or tracking functions are available.

Link’s Awakening on Nintendo Switch: Chamber Dungeon content
Link amiibo and Shadow Link
The Link amiibo unlocks Shadow Link for the Chamber Dungeon. This is dungeon content rather than a permanent overworld companion or a new story chapter. The feature is tied to the Nintendo Switch remake’s Chamber Dungeon mode.
Five chamber unlocks from Zelda-series figures
Up to five different Zelda-series amiibo unlock five chambers. Nintendo lists these chambers:
- Great Fairy’s Chamber
- Moblin Chief’s Chamber
- Ball and Chain Trooper’s Chamber
- Cracked Floor Chamber
- Armos Knight’s Chamber
The chambers unlock in random order. “Up to five” means five different Zelda-series figures can supply the five listed chamber unlocks; repeatedly presenting the same figure does not turn it into a sixth distinct chamber.
Saving and sharing dungeon designs
Zelda-series amiibo can save a Chamber Dungeon and let you share it with another player’s Nintendo Switch. This makes the figures useful for exchanging dungeon layouts as well as unlocking rooms. It does not mean that every Zelda figure creates a unique dungeon layout: the named chamber unlocks and the save/share function are the documented features.

Echoes of Wisdom: items and variant outfits
After amiibo use is unlocked during the story, Zelda-series figures can provide helpful items such as smoothie ingredients or variant outfits. Nintendo says this normally becomes available about one hour into play, but the exact point depends on your progress.
- Continue the story until the amiibo feature is introduced.
- Choose the amiibo option from the available menu or interaction prompt.
- Scan a Zelda-series figure once it is requested.
- Collect the ingredients, outfit or other reward shown by the game.
Each figure may normally be scanned once per day per Nintendo Account, and up to three figures can be scanned daily. Those are separate limits: you can use three different figures in one day, while each individual figure remains on its own daily cooldown. Nintendo also notes that repeated scans may be needed for a unique reward, so the first result can be a routine helpful item rather than the special outfit or item you wanted.

An amiibo stores figure or game data, but the receiving game decides what to read and what reward table to use. Nintendo’s amiibo FAQ explains that a figure may save data in one game and grant bonus content when tapped in another. Compatibility therefore has several separate questions:

- What type of content is supported? The result could be materials, gear, an outfit or fabric, a companion, a dungeon chamber or a saved dungeon.
- Is the result fixed? Many drops are random, while a feature such as Shadow Link is tied to a specific documented unlock.
- Has the feature been unlocked in the story? Scanning before the amiibo Rune, ability or mode is available will not bypass that prerequisite.
- Has today’s limit been used? Daily limits are normally tracked per figure and Nintendo Account, not as one universal Zelda counter.
These distinctions explain why a figure can be valuable in one game and appear to do nothing in another. They also prevent a common error: turning a reward listed for Breath of the Wild into a claim about Ocarina of Time or assuming that a fabric, weapon or outfit is guaranteed on the first scan.

Troubleshooting an amiibo that appears not to work
The game does not detect the figure
- Confirm that the game has an amiibo feature and that you have reached its story prerequisite.
- Make sure the figure is placed on the console or controller’s NFC reading point shown on screen.
- Remove another NFC card, accessory or figure from the reading area.
- Restart the game and try the scan again after selecting the amiibo ability.
The reward is different from an online list
Check whether the list describes a different game, edition or figure variant. Reward pools can be random, and a guide that names a category such as “materials” or “meat” is not promising one exact item.
A special reward has not appeared
In Tears of the Kingdom and Echoes of Wisdom, Nintendo says some unique rewards may require repeat scans. Wait for the next daily eligibility rather than assuming the figure is incompatible. In Breath of the Wild, random outcomes such as Epona likewise should not be treated as guaranteed on a particular day.
Buying or identifying the Link Ocarina of Time amiibo
The accurate product description is “Link Ocarina of Time amiibo figure.” Its documented direct match is the random-meat reward in Breath of the Wild. Before purchasing a listing, verify the exact figure, regional or edition details, stock status and the game you intend to use it with. Do not buy it expecting an unlock in the original Ocarina of Time, because Nintendo’s published material does not show that functionality.

If your question is specifically “What does the Ocarina of Time amiibo unlock in Ocarina of Time?”, the answer is no documented amiibo unlock. If you mean “What does the Link (Ocarina of Time) figure do elsewhere?”, it provides random meat in Breath of the Wild, participates in the broader Zelda-series reward system in Tears of the Kingdom, and must be checked against each game’s own compatibility rules. The reliable method is always to identify the game first, unlock its amiibo feature, then apply that title’s reward table and daily limit.
