A stage victory at the 2025 Tour de Langkawi did more than give British rider Zeb Kyffin his first professional win: it helped secure him a 2026 contract with Terengganu, the Malaysian team whose rider he had beaten. A year later, he was describing a season of racing across Asia and the places it had taken him.
How one stage win led to a Terengganu contract
Kyffin took the stage 7 sprint at the 2025 Tour de Langkawi, finishing ahead of Aiman Rosli, a rider for Terengganu. At the time, he was uncertain about what his next season would bring. As he told Simone Giuliani of Cyclingnews in an interview published 3 October 2026, Terengganu’s manager sent him a contract offer shortly after the win, giving him a place on the team for 2026.

Kyffin said he only fully understood Terengganu’s scale and professional setup during the team’s January media week and launch. Cyclingnews described the squad as having a 15-year history in the Asia Tour and ranked it fourth in the Asia Tour at the time of publication; those are the article’s dated descriptions, not independently verified figures here.

The team’s 2026 calendar took Kyffin well beyond the European club racing he had known. Cyclingnews reported appearances at the inaugural Pune Tour in India, the AlUla Tour in Saudi Arabia, and races in Taiwan, Hainan, Qinghai and the Himalaya race, as well as other stops. An additional call-up to race the Tour de Langkawi extended a schedule that had not originally included it. The report put his season at around 70 race days, an approximate figure from its account.
One result along the way was second place overall at the Tour of Shanghai in June 2026, according to Cyclingnews. The profile does not present the race-day total or other season figures as independently audited statistics.

What changed from European club racing
Before joining Terengganu, Kyffin had spent two seasons with the Unibet Rockets and five seasons with UK-based continental teams. He described a different competitive rhythm in Asia: repeatedly meeting many of the same professionals made their habits easier to read. Riders, he said, had learned to anticipate his tendency to attack from far out, so he could no longer expect to slip away unnoticed.

The difference was not only tactical. Kyffin said the schedule brought him to places he had never expected to visit by bike: “I’ve seen places I never thought I’d go, let alone on a bike.”

He also reflected on how much ground the season had covered: “I wouldn’t trade having seen 15 new countries, or whatever it’s been for another year of racing on a club team in Europe or something.” The country count is Kyffin’s own approximate estimate, as reported by Cyclingnews, rather than a verified travel total.
Why the Langkawi result mattered a year later
In Kyffin’s account, the chain was direct: a stage win while his future was uncertain prompted an offer from the team whose rider he had beaten, and that contract brought a markedly international 2026 schedule.
