What happened to the creator’s channel?
According to iXBT Games’ October 9 report, j0nathan said YouTube deleted his channel after he uploaded gameplay from Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival. The report attributed 190,000 subscribers to the channel and quoted the creator disputing the action.

“It was just a gameplay video, not ‘content intended for sexual gratification’,” j0nathan said, according to the report. He also said he had covered elements in the frame. Those are the creator’s account of the video and the dispute; the report did not reproduce a YouTube notice explaining the action or establish what the platform reviewed.
j0nathan also said he wanted a thorough review and hoped for a peaceful resolution before pursuing appeals under the Digital Services Act or legal proceedings. The available reporting does not establish whether he later appealed, took legal action, or regained access to the channel.

Why can gameplay fall under YouTube’s sexual-content policy?
YouTube’s Nudity and sexual content policy expressly covers real-world, dramatized, illustrated, and animated material, including video games. It bars depictions of nudity or sexual acts when they are intended for sexual gratification. The fact that footage comes from a game does not, by itself, put it outside the policy.
The policy identifies several considerations for assessing sexual material: whether body parts are the focal point, whether people are posed or acting sexually, whether language is lewd, whether imagery is blurred or masked, and whether it appears fleetingly or for a prolonged time. It also says artistic context can matter, including for video-game sex scenes, when the primary purpose is clear and the material is not gratuitous.

Masking is therefore relevant but not a guarantee of compliance. The policy lists blurring or masking among its factors; it does not say that concealing an image automatically makes the surrounding video permissible. These general rules help explain how gameplay might be assessed, but they do not establish YouTube’s reasoning in j0nathan’s case.

What content does Hellraiser: Revival contain?
The game’s content ratings give context for why footage could raise moderation questions, but they do not determine whether a particular YouTube upload complies with platform rules.

- Steam: Steam lists an October 8, 2026 release date and describes the title as a first-person action-horror survival game. Its content disclosures include mature language, strong violence, gore, torture, consensual mutilation, drug and alcohol abuse, tobacco use, and non-explicit consensual sex.
- Xbox: Xbox also lists October 8, 2026 as the release date, identifies Xbox Series X|S and PC availability, and displays Mature 17+ descriptors.
An ESRB rating describes the game for consumers; YouTube applies its own rules to uploaded videos. Neither the rating nor the presence of mature content alone confirms the reason for a channel-level enforcement action.

YouTube’s policy describes more than one possible treatment of sexual material. Content that violates the policy may be removed, and enforcement can affect a channel; material that does not meet removal criteria may instead be age-restricted. YouTube says age-restricted videos cannot be viewed by people under 18 or by signed-out users. The ESRB’s Mature 17+ rating is a separate classification of the game, not an instruction to YouTube about how to handle a gameplay upload.

These outcomes should not be treated as interchangeable: an age restriction is not the same as removal, and a game’s rating does not decide platform compliance. In this instance, the reviewed reporting does not supply enough information to determine which policy finding, if any, YouTube made about the video or why the channel was deleted.
