Which Google Home devices can show YouTube TV?
Google’s instructions support direct YouTube TV playback on Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max displays. You can start playback by voice or use the touchscreen, then pause, change channels, and adjust volume. You need a YouTube TV account or trial account. Google’s Nest display instructions explain the supported playback and controls.

A Google Home speaker without a screen is different: it cannot display a program. It can act as a voice controller when YouTube TV is playing on a linked Chromecast or compatible TV.

Google’s supported-device information also lists YouTube TV among the services that can play on Nest displays and Chromecast or Cast-compatible TVs. Availability can vary by region, so check the service and device support where you live: Google’s supported playback information.

Play YouTube TV directly on a Nest Hub
- Confirm the display and account. Use a Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max and sign in with an account that has YouTube TV access, including an eligible trial.
- Start a program. Ask, “Watch YouTube TV,” “Go to YouTube TV,” or “Show me the TV guide,” or open YouTube TV from the display’s touchscreen.
- Control playback. Use voice or the touchscreen to pause, switch channels, and adjust volume.
These are command examples documented by Google; the exact result depends on the request and what is available in your YouTube TV account.
Use an audio-only speaker to control a TV
If you have a Google Home speaker rather than a Nest Hub display, set up Chromecast with the Google Home app and link the devices as described in Google’s setup instructions. The speaker can then control playback, but the video appears on the connected TV—not on the speaker. Google specifies that the YouTube TV and Google device should use the same Google Account and marks this speaker-and-Chromecast feature as US-only.

Is an old Nest Hub a good kitchen screen?
It can be a convenient way to put live TV or other YouTube TV programming on a screen you already own, without routing video to another display. Whether it suits your kitchen comes down to screen placement, your YouTube TV access, and regional availability. Google’s documentation establishes compatibility and controls, but does not establish picture quality, performance on every older unit, or whether a particular device generation remains available.
