To send a bhajan playlist from OBS to YouTube, get the stream key and server details from YouTube Studio, enter them in OBS, then test the incoming feed in YouTube’s Live Control Room before going public. Treat the key like a password. OBS can send a stream, but it cannot by itself guarantee that a computer, power supply, network, or broadcast will stay up around the clock.
What the YouTube stream key does
The stream key is the credential OBS uses to send video to the correct YouTube stream. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep yours private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. You can reuse a custom key, but if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace the saved key in OBS. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.

Set up YouTube Studio and OBS
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; its getting-started guidance sets the minimum age for livestreaming at 16. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance before diagnosing connection problems.
- Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Go Live, then use the Stream tab to create a stream or select an existing one. Find the stream key and server URL in the stream settings. Exact screen labels can vary as YouTube and OBS update.
- Choose the connection method in OBS. In OBS, open Settings and select the stream configuration. If the installed version offers YouTube or YouTube RTMPS as a service, select it and enter the key. Otherwise, choose the custom server option and copy the server URL and key from YouTube into the matching fields. OBS’s Knowledge Base is the official help entry point; YouTube’s encoder setup guide confirms that the server URL goes in the encoder’s server field and the key in its key field.
- Set video and audio output. Use the baseline settings in the next section, adjusting resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to what your channel needs and your connection can sustain.
- Start output and verify the feed. Start streaming in OBS, then wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that it is the intended stream, that the audio and picture are right, and that the stream visibility is what you intend before making it public or treating the broadcast as live.
- Monitor while operating. Check YouTube’s Stream Health messages rather than assuming that an OBS “streaming” status means viewers are receiving a healthy feed. YouTube recommends testing with representative motion and audio and checking the preview and stream health.
Conservative OBS encoder settings
These are starting points based on YouTube’s published encoder guidance, not a special bhajan preset or an uptime guarantee. YouTube’s full recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec; check the current table at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions before committing to a format.

A static image may need less visual bitrate than fast-moving footage, but do not treat that observation as authorization to go below YouTube’s published recommendation. Choose an output your connection can sustain and validate it in a representative test.

Plan for an always-on broadcast
Leave bandwidth headroom
YouTube recommends keeping total streaming bitrate at or below available upload bandwidth and leaving 20% headroom. That is platform guidance, not a guarantee against interruptions. Test the actual connection at the intended bitrate, accounting for other people and devices sharing it. A wired connection is an optional way to avoid some Wi-Fi variability; YouTube does not require Ethernet. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Test the complete setup
Before scheduling a long broadcast, run a representative test using the actual bhajan audio, visuals, encoder settings, and network. Check the Live Control Room preview, Stream Health, and the channel’s watch page; YouTube also suggests checking on mobile devices. This catches problems that a successful OBS connection alone will not reveal.

Understand the replay limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours, do not assume the whole feed will become an intact replay. If keeping a complete program matters, consider shorter sessions or a separately validated local recording, then check and retain those recording files. Breaking a continuous schedule into shorter sessions is an operational choice, not a YouTube requirement.

YouTube stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop controls that allow starting or stopping from the encoder when enabled. Confirm how they behave on the particular stream before relying on them unattended. They do not keep a computer powered, restore a failed internet connection, or resolve rights issues.

Clear bhajan and visual rights before going live
A devotional subject or traditional composition does not automatically clear the particular recording you plan to broadcast. Check rights for each sound recording, performance, composition or arrangement where relevant, and visual asset. Confirm that permissions cover livestreaming and any replay or archive use. YouTube’s stream settings state that content must not infringe others’ rights, but that does not determine whether a specific track or image is cleared. The rights status of your chosen assets must be established for your channel.
For a channel in India, check the rights attached to the specific recording and any license terms rather than assuming that availability online grants permission to rebroadcast it.

Troubleshoot common OBS-to-YouTube problems
