A drop in YouTube Shorts views does not prove that YouTube detected reused content or stopped recommending your channel. Check YouTube Studio’s Earn area and your email or in-product notices first. If YouTube has actually removed your channel from the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) for a policy violation, use the appeal or reapplication route in the notice and address the channel-wide policy issue. Keep that decision separate from invalid-traffic adjustments and ordinary changes in reach.
Can a drop in Shorts views tell you YouTube detected reused content?
No. A raw view-count change alone cannot establish a reused-content decision, a recommendation penalty, or a so-called shadowban. YouTube’s reused-content policy is part of its channel-level monetization review. Reviewers may assess a range of channel material and metadata, so one Short’s performance is not enough to identify the cause.

YouTube’s policy page notes that on July 15, 2025, it renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify that the policy covers repetitive or mass-produced content. The same note explicitly says the reused-content policy did not change and continues to cover content such as commentary, clips, compilations, and reaction videos. Check what actually changed
Start with the account notice and the kind of change it describes. A YPP monetization decision, a video-specific restriction, an invalid-traffic adjustment, and a drop in recommendations are different events with different evidence and remedies. A view decline without a relevant notice remains undiagnosed; channel notices and analytics are needed to investigate a particular case.

Monetization status alone does not determine whether a video appears in search. Shorts views also have a specific meaning for YPP eligibility: only qualifying public Shorts-feed views count toward the relevant threshold, not every raw view total. Check YouTube’s current YPP eligibility requirements for the applicable criteria.
Audit the channel for reused-content issues
YouTube says creators should publish original, authentic material; borrowed material must be changed significantly to become the creator’s own. Reused content means repurposing material from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value.

A review may consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, content responsible for the largest share of watch time, metadata, and About section. Look across the channel rather than focusing only on the Short whose views changed.
- For each borrowed clip, identify the original commentary, analysis, narrative, or other substantive creative contribution.
- Make that contribution clear in the finished video; merely placing unedited clips together may not show what you added.
- Consider whether titles, descriptions, and the channel’s About section accurately explain your role and the material’s purpose.
- Check copyright and permissions separately. Passing a reused-content monetization review does not establish that you have the rights to use third-party material.
YouTube lists critical review, commentary, reaction, substantive editing, and creator-visible or creator-explained contributions as examples that may be allowed under its reused-content policy. Those examples are not a guarantee that a particular channel or Short will qualify.

Follow the notice’s appeal or reapplication route
If YouTube suspended your channel from YPP for a policy violation, use the instructions attached to that decision. YouTube’s current help page says a suspended creator may appeal within 21 days or reapply after 90 days. For a scheduled suspension notice, the page describes a seven-day appeal opportunity and says the team responds within 14 days. These are procedural windows, not guarantees of reinstatement or view recovery. Check the specific notice because it is the practical reference for your case. Review YouTube’s suspension and appeal instructions.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn. Read the exact channel status and policy reason; check your email and in-product notices as well.
- Review the cited policy against the channel. Examine the overall channel and the content types and metadata YouTube may consider, not only one Short.
- Choose the route shown in the notice. If appealing, present evidence of your creative process and original value in the manner the notice requests. If reapplying, first address material that violates the policy.
- Edit or remove violating content when appropriate. YouTube instructs creators to edit or delete content that violates policy as part of addressing a YPP issue. Do not treat deletion as a general view-recovery technique.
Should you delete or reupload Shorts?
Not as a supposed fix for a view decline. The right action depends on the event: YouTube does direct creators to edit or remove content that violates monetization policy, but it does not promise that doing so will restore reach. If the issue is invalid traffic, YouTube says deleting, editing, or unlisting videos does not restore earnings associated with that traffic. Do not buy views or use engagement-boosting services. YouTube identifies artificial and incentivized traffic as invalid traffic, which may lead to limited ad serving or earnings adjustments.
Keep Shorts payment eligibility separate from reach
YouTube’s Shorts payment rules identify unedited third-party clips, reuploads, and compilations without original additions as examples of non-original Shorts with ineligible engaged views. That is a payment-eligibility rule; it does not prove that a particular Short’s distribution was reduced. Treat qualifying views, monetization status, invalid-traffic accounting, and recommendation reach as separate questions.
