The fix depends on whether it came from YouTube Live, a playlist player, or FFmpeg while reading or processing files. Hindi audio or text does not require a special FFmpeg resolution setting. Check the exact error, inspect every clip, then encode the output at a resolution accepted by the destination.
Identify what is reporting the resolution problem
Record the exact error text and where it appears: in YouTube Live Control Room, in another player or service, or in FFmpeg’s terminal output. The wording “too high resolution” alone does not establish a specific YouTube error or a universal maximum resolution. If the first checks below do not explain it, the exact message and FFmpeg command are needed for a reliable diagnosis.

- YouTube Live or another destination: Check its current ingest guidance. The relevant resolution is the one your encoder sends, not necessarily the resolution of the original file.
- FFmpeg: Look at the command output and input properties. A problem can arise while opening or joining clips, before anything reaches YouTube.
- Playlist player or service: Check that product’s own supported formats and limits; do not assume its message comes from YouTube.
If YouTube Live is the destination, use its official live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions as the reference for the output you configure. Requirements can change, so do not treat one resolution as a universal limit based on this error alone.
Inspect every clip before changing the stream
Run ffprobe on each local video, not just the first playlist entry:

Compare the video width and height, codec, frame rate and time base, audio properties, and the number and order of streams. A playlist may contain clips with different dimensions or stream layouts even if they look similar when played. This inspection separates an input-file mismatch from an output-resolution requirement.
Confirm what kind of playlist you have
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer uses a text script that lists files; it is not the same thing as an M3U or M3U8 playlist. Do not pass an M3U/M3U8 file to the concat demuxer as though the formats were interchangeable. For concat demuxer syntax and its compatibility requirements, see the FFmpeg Formats documentation.

The optional signature must be exactly ffconcat version 1.0 on the first line. Use paths appropriate to your files, and quote or escape paths correctly if filenames contain special characters. If your source is M3U/M3U8, adapt it to a workflow that understands that format rather than assuming this script is a direct substitute.
Choose stream copy or normalization
Use stream copy only for compatible clips
The concat demuxer expects compatible streams, including matching codecs and time bases. If the clips’ stream layouts or parameters differ, a stream-copy join may fail or produce an unreliable result. The demuxer adjusts timestamps between files, and inaccurate duration information can cause artifacts.
Stream copy avoids decoding and re-encoding, but it does not resize video. It is suitable only when the input streams meet the concat requirements and already match the desired output profile.

Normalize clips when their streams differ
If inspection reveals incompatible inputs—or the receiving platform requires a different output size—use a deliberate decode, filter, and encode workflow to bring the clips to a common profile. That allows you to set consistent dimensions and stream parameters, but takes processing time and can affect picture quality. Choose the output size, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval according to the destination’s current guidance and your available upload capacity; do not guess at a universal setting from the error wording.
In particular, copying a high-resolution video stream does not make it lower resolution. Resizing requires video processing and encoding, not just a stream-copy option.
Set and test the destination output
- Check the destination’s current ingest settings. For YouTube Live, consult its encoder guidance for the resolution and other output parameters you intend to send.
- Configure the encoder to produce that output. If the source is larger than the chosen output, use a filter and encode the video; stream copy will retain its existing dimensions.
- Verify the stream key and destination. Make sure the encoder is sending to the intended YouTube stream and using the correct stream key. Do not share the key publicly.
- Run a short test stream. Check the destination’s stream health and confirm the reported output before relying on the playlist unattended.
Looping a concat playlist with FFmpeg
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 for indefinite input looping. It is an input option, so place it before the input it applies to. A simple concat-demuxer pattern is:

Replace the destination address and key with the values supplied by your streaming destination. This example uses stream copy, so it is appropriate only if the concat inputs are compatible and their existing output profile meets destination requirements. It does not resize video. If you need to normalize or downscale, replace stream copy with a suitable filter and encoding settings based on the destination’s current instructions. See FFmpeg’s command-line options documentation for option behavior.
Troubleshoot the most common causes
- The error appears in YouTube, while FFmpeg shows no input error: Treat it as an output-ingest issue first. Check YouTube’s current encoder guidance and ensure the encoder is actually sending the selected resolution.
- The error appears in FFmpeg while opening the playlist: Confirm that the input is a concat text file if you use
-f concat, and check file paths, filenames, and script syntax. - Only some clips trigger problems: Compare those files’ dimensions, codecs, time bases, audio streams, and stream order with the others using
ffprobe. Normalize incompatible files or use a decode/filter/encode pipeline. - The command runs, but the destination still gets the original large frame: Check whether the command is using stream copy. Copying preserves the existing video stream; resizing requires filtering and encoding.
- There are glitches at clip boundaries: Check stream compatibility and source duration metadata. The concat demuxer’s timestamp adjustment relies on duration information, and inaccurate durations can cause artifacts.
- An M3U/M3U8 playlist is being used as concat input: These are different playlist formats. Use a workflow that supports the playlist you have or convert its entries into the appropriate input structure.
