If your YouTube playlist stream stopped during a power cut, first find out whether the broadcast itself ended or only playback on your device failed. Check the public watch page from another device or internet connection. If you run the stream, then check the PC, modem/router, internet connection, encoder and YouTube Live Control Room in that order.
First check: did the live broadcast actually go offline?
A playback problem on one phone, browser or connection does not prove that the public stream ended. Open the event’s watch page on a second device, preferably using a different connection. If it plays there, troubleshoot the original viewer device or connection. If it does not, continue with the creator-side checks below. YouTube has separate guidance for playback problems and encoder streams: YouTube playback troubleshooting and YouTube encoder streaming guidance.

How to restart a YouTube live stream after power and internet return
- Check the PC and network equipment. Confirm the PC has booted, and that the modem and router are powered and have finished starting. A restarted PC may still be offline while the router, modem or ISP connection is recovering.
- Check Windows connectivity. Look at the network icon and connection status, and reconnect to the expected Wi-Fi network if needed. Test another device on the same network. If that device also cannot reach the internet, the fault may be with the modem or ISP rather than the PC. Microsoft’s Wi-Fi guidance applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11: Fix Wi-Fi connection issues in Windows.
- Restart the modem and router only if needed. Microsoft’s documented recovery sequence is to power-cycle the modem and router, let the modem lights settle and the router finish starting, then reconnect the PC. This briefly disconnects other people and devices using the network. See Fix internet connection problems in Windows.
- Inspect the encoder. If you operate the broadcast, check whether your encoder is open, producing the intended local picture and sending a feed. An encoder that appears healthy locally does not by itself confirm YouTube is receiving the stream.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Look for whether YouTube is receiving the encoder feed and whether the event is live. YouTube’s encoder advice covers stream health and connection requirements: YouTube encoder streaming guidance. Different third-party encoders may behave differently after a disconnect, so confirm the status in your own encoder as well.
- Verify the viewer-facing page. Open the public watch page from another device or connection before telling viewers the stream is back. If the encoder is sending but the connection remains impaired, investigate the outbound internet connection and contact your ISP if necessary.
If only YouTube playback is stuck
If the public event works elsewhere, treat this as a viewer-side issue rather than restarting the creator’s stream. Reload the page, then close and reopen the browser. If loading or buffering problems persist, check for browser or computer updates and try a different internet connection. YouTube’s playback guidance is at YouTube Help.
Why YouTube auto-start may not restore the stream
YouTube documents auto-start and auto-stop as controls for starting or stopping a stream from an encoder. That documentation does not promise to power on a PC after an outage or restore the previous encoder session. After a power cut, check that the PC has booted, the encoder is sending content and the event is live; do not assume an auto-start setting recovered everything. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

Preventing another outage: what a UPS can and cannot do
A UPS can keep the PC and modem/router powered during a cut for as long as its capacity can support the equipment’s combined load. Runtime depends on the particular UPS and connected load, so choose one using the manufacturer’s capacity and runtime estimates for the equipment and outage duration you need to cover. Include essential local network gear in the backup plan. A UPS does not guarantee that the ISP connection will remain available.

For a stream made from uploaded or pre-recorded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud-hosted option: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the playlist running without a home PC or home connection staying on; it also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It streams to YouTube only, and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. Each slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free day.
