When songs disappear from YouTube Music after a licensing notice, it’s usually not your account or your device. A common scenario involves an expired SESAC license, which can temporarily remove or limit tracks in the affected catalog.
This guide walks through how to confirm the issue, what you can fix locally, what you can’t (because it’s on the label/licensing side), and several practical workarounds until the catalog returns.

What the SESAC license issue actually means for YouTube Music
SESAC is a U.S. performance-rights organization. If SESAC’s licensing terms with a service expire, the service may be required to stop distributing or streaming certain songs in its catalog.

How to confirm the problem is licensing (not your device)
You’ll get the fastest clarity by checking whether the missing songs fail across multiple clients and accounts. If they vanish everywhere, it’s almost certainly a catalog/licensing restriction.
Check these signals
- The same track is missing on both web and mobile apps.
- Search results are inconsistent by region or device, not by your account settings.
- Only certain artists/albums are missing while others play normally.
- Other streaming services still show the songs, or they show them but YouTube Music does not (this varies by deal).
Do a quick cross-check
- Open YouTube Music on desktop in an incognito/private window.
- Search for one of the missing tracks.
- Open the YouTube Music app on your phone and search for the same track.
- If it’s missing on both, switch to a different Google account (only if you can do so easily) and repeat.
If the track is missing across accounts and platforms, you’re dealing with a licensing/catalog availability issue.
Fast troubleshooting checklist (works for most cases)
Do these first because they resolve common “looks like missing songs” problems caused by cache, downloads, or app state.

Fixes you can try on YouTube Music (web and mobile)
Local fixes won’t restore a legally restricted track, but they can correct indexing delays, stale results, or client-side catalog glitches.
Web (desktop browser)
- Go to YouTube Music in a browser.
- Open an incognito/private window and sign in.
- Search for the missing track and open the artist page.
- Clear site cookies and cache for
music.youtube.com(or the domain you’re using). - Disable ad blockers for YouTube Music temporarily and reload.
If the song still doesn’t appear on incognito, it’s likely not a browser cache problem.

iPhone & iPad (iOS app)
- Close YouTube Music completely (swipe it away in the app switcher).
- Reopen YouTube Music and sign in.
- Go to Settings (tap your profile) and confirm the account is correct.
- If you have downloads, go to the Downloads tab and check whether the track is missing only from offline mode.
- Update the app: App Store > YouTube Music > Update.
If the track is missing in both online search and offline downloads, it points back to catalog licensing availability.
Android (YouTube Music app)
- Force stop the app: Settings > Apps > YouTube Music > Force stop.
- Clear cache: Settings > Apps > YouTube Music > Storage > Clear cache. (Avoid clearing data unless needed.)
- Reopen YouTube Music and search again.
- Update the app: Play Store > YouTube Music > Update.
- Recheck Downloads and My Library tabs.
If clearing cache doesn’t change anything across devices, it’s almost certainly licensing/catalog related.

Region and catalog constraints you can’t fully control
Even when your device is correct, catalog availability can still differ by country and by how YouTube Music routes licensing rights. A track may disappear for users in one geography while remaining available elsewhere.
Be careful with VPNs. Using a VPN can sometimes expose different catalog behavior, but it can also trigger inconsistent indexing, playback failures, or account restrictions.
Cache, downloads, and search-specific quirks
Licensing removals often show up differently depending on whether you’re searching, streaming online, or using offline downloads.

Common client-side symptoms
- Search results missing but albums/artists still load.
- Playlist items show as unavailable while the playlist itself remains visible.
- Offline downloads fail to play after a policy change, even if they previously existed.
What to try
- Remove the downloaded version (if you can) and re-download after the catalog is restored.
- Search by exact track ID patterns: try the artist page first, then tap the track from there.
- Try a different app language only if you suspect encoding/search issues.
What to do if a playlist looks broken
When licensing expires, playlist contents can update to remove or replace restricted tracks. The playlist often remains, but individual tracks can disappear or become unavailable.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open the playlist and locate the affected song(s).
- Tap the artist name for one of the missing tracks.
- Search for the track on the artist page (not via general search).
- If the track is unavailable, favor alternative playlists or “official mixes” created after catalog changes.
- Recreate your own playlist using available versions (same artist/album cuts that still stream).
Workarounds while the SESAC catalog is unavailable
If the SESAC-related removal is in effect, waiting is the only definitive fix. In the meantime, you can minimize disruption by switching to versions that remain licensed (when available) and using smarter discovery paths.
Practical workarounds
- Try alternate releases: deluxe editions, remasters, live cuts, and featuring-artist variants can be licensed differently.
- Follow the artist’s official channel and use YouTube Music’s “official topic” style items when they appear.
- Use “Radio” from a similar track so you’re not dependent on one missing song’s availability.
- Swap to a different performer if the track you want exists under a cover or another credited artist version.
Alternatives to find the same songs
When a track is missing specifically on YouTube Music, you can use other services to keep your library intact, then move back later once licensing is restored.
| Goal | Alternative approach | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Find the track quickly | Use another streaming app’s search by exact artist + title | Check the credited artist for featured tracks |
| Keep playlists similar | Use a “similar music” radio feature | Availability can differ by region and rights |
| Maintain offline access | Download from an alternative service | Offline catalogs can change after agreements |
| Watch official audio/video | Search YouTube for the official version | Some versions may not have “official” audio rights either |
When you should report it (and what to include)
If you’ve confirmed the track is missing across devices and accounts, reporting it helps the team track catalog availability. It usually won’t fix the issue instantly, but it creates actionable data.
What to send
- Track name + artist name (and album name if you know it)
- Your country/region (general location is enough)
- Your device and app version (for example, “YouTube Music iOS app, version from App Store”)
- Screenshots of the missing search result or unavailable playlist item
- Evidence of cross-device behavior (e.g., “missing on web incognito and iPhone app”)
If you can access the YouTube Music feedback flow from the app, use it. Otherwise, rely on the official help/contact pathways that correspond to your platform.

Common mistakes and gotchas
- Assuming it’s a local login issue: when entire SESAC-related catalogs disappear, sign-out won’t bring them back.
- Over-relying on saved playlists: playlists can update and drop tracks when licensing changes.
- Using a VPN as a “fix”: it can mask availability but often creates new inconsistencies.
- Ignoring app updates: you can still have real client bugs that affect indexing even when licensing is fine.
Troubleshooting by symptom
Use these quick paths when you’re not sure what category your issue falls into.
Symptom: Song won’t appear in search on every device
Try incognito web, update the app, and cross-check a second account. If still missing everywhere, assume catalog licensing and wait.
Symptom: Playlist shows the track as unavailable
Open the artist page and search for alternate versions. If none show up, the playlist item is likely removed at the catalog level.
Symptom: Song plays on mobile but not on web
Clear cache/cookies on the browser and disable extensions temporarily. If it’s still missing only on web, it may be a client rollout or caching difference rather than licensing.
Symptom: Song is missing only offline
Remove and re-download the track after the app reindexes. Offline catalogs can fail if the service enforces removal even for stored content.

- Two Devices, Zero Hassle: Stay connected to your laptop and phone at the same time. Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Designed for commuters and remote workers who move smoothly between work and personal listening throughout the day.
- Your Sound, Your Rules: The soundcore app puts everything at your fingertips — dials your ideal EQ with presets or build your own, flip between ANC, Normal, and Transparency modes on the fly, or wind down with built-in white noise. One app, total control.
Symptom: Only one artist is affected
That strongly points to label-level rights, not your settings. Compare availability for another track from the same artist to see whether the gap is partial.
FAQs
Is the SESAC license expiration permanent?
No. Licensing agreements typically resolve over time, but the timing isn’t guaranteed. During the gap, YouTube Music may have to restrict affected tracks.
Why do some users still see the songs?
Catalog availability can vary by region, account type, and how/when rights apply. It can also be influenced by differing versions (studio vs. live, edited vs. uncut).
Will signing out and back in fix missing songs?
Usually not if the tracks are missing due to licensing. Sign-in can help with library sync issues, but licensing removals are handled at the catalog level.
Should I update YouTube Music right now?
Yes. App updates (iOS, Android, and browser client changes) can fix indexing bugs and playback UI problems. But updates won’t restore a legally restricted catalog.
Can I find the same songs on YouTube instead?
Sometimes. If the same track is uploaded as an official audio/video, it may remain accessible on YouTube even when the audio is restricted inside YouTube Music. Availability still depends on rights.
Bottom Line
If YouTube Music missing songs are tied to an expired SESAC license, the most reliable fix is time—local troubleshooting only helps if the issue is a client-side glitch or indexing delay. Verify the problem across web and mobile, then use workarounds (alternate versions, radios, recreated playlists, or other services) until the catalog returns.
When you do report the issue, include track/artist details, your region, and screenshots showing the missing results. That’s what helps the right teams confirm the affected catalog and track resolution.
