Phone verification is necessary for YouTube live streaming, but it does not always unlock the feature immediately. If this is your first time turning on mobile live streaming, YouTube says it may take up to 24 hours before you can start. Check the correct channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio, then confirm whether you are trying to stream from a phone or from a computer: mobile streaming has additional requirements, including at least 50 subscribers.
First, identify what is stuck
There are two different problems that can look similar: YouTube may not have accepted your phone verification, or verification may be complete while live streaming remains unavailable. The fix depends on which stage failed.

- No verification code arrived: this is a phone-verification delivery issue.
- The code was accepted, but live streaming is still unavailable: check channel eligibility, streaming-method requirements, restrictions, and the first-activation wait.
YouTube’s published guidance does not establish a separate activation rule or queue for Indian channels. Being in India, by itself, is not evidence that your channel has a special delay.
Check the channel’s live-streaming status
- Open YouTube Studio for the channel you intend to stream from.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Confirm you are looking at the intended channel, especially if your Google account manages more than one channel.
- Check whether live streaming is enabled or whether YouTube shows an unmet requirement or restriction.
Feature eligibility shows which features are enabled for the selected channel; some features can have their own requirements. Phone verification alone does not establish that every live-streaming requirement has been met.

Check which streaming method you plan to use
Streaming from a phone
Mobile live streaming has additional eligibility requirements. YouTube’s guidance calls for a verified channel, at least 50 subscribers, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and live streaming turned on. If you have fewer than 50 subscribers, completing phone verification will not satisfy the subscriber requirement for mobile streaming.
YouTube says that starting your first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours after you turn on live streaming. That is the published first-stream window, not a guarantee that every channel-specific issue will resolve within 24 hours.

Streaming from a computer, webcam, or encoder
The 50-subscriber threshold cited for mobile streaming should not be applied automatically to other streaming methods. Still check Feature eligibility and whether the channel has live-streaming restrictions. Choose the method you actually intend to use when diagnosing the problem; a requirement for mobile does not explain every unavailable-live-stream message on a computer.
If the verification code never arrived
Code delivery is separate from post-verification activation. If YouTube has not accepted a code, try the available voice-call option or a number from another operator. YouTube notes that some operators may not support Google verification texts or calls, and messages can be delayed. It also limits a phone number to verification of no more than two channels per year.

If the code was already accepted, repeating verification-code steps does not address a feature that remains unavailable afterward. Return to Feature eligibility and check the channel’s streaming method, restrictions, and activation timing.
A practical troubleshooting order
- Confirm the channel: in YouTube Studio, select the channel you want to stream from and open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Confirm the issue stage: determine whether the code is still missing or verification succeeded and the live feature remains unavailable.
- Check the streaming method: if using a phone, confirm the mobile requirements, including at least 50 subscribers and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Allow the first-activation window: if this is the first time you turned live streaming on, allow up to 24 hours before concluding that the first mobile stream has not activated.
- Escalate if access is still absent: if Studio continues to show the feature unavailable after the applicable checks and wait, use YouTube’s Send feedback route or contact Creator Support if your channel is eligible for it.
Community replies sometimes advise waiting as long as 48 hours, but that is community advice, not a stated YouTube policy or a guaranteed resolution time.

What an Indian channel should—and should not—assume
YouTube’s mobile live-streaming guidance lists India for mobile Playables live streaming. That is not a special rule for ordinary live streaming and does not explain an activation delay. The published guidance covered here does not establish an India-only phone-verification rule, activation queue, or different first-stream wait.
