A YouTube Brand Account can be phone-verified by its owner or a manager, and phone verification unlocks live streaming as a feature. It does not by itself guarantee that the channel can go live: YouTube also requires channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and a creator who is at least 16. Mobile streaming has additional requirements, including at least 50 subscribers. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio.
Who can enable live streaming on a Brand Account?
YouTube Help says that if you have a Brand Account, its owner and managers can phone-verify a channel. For a channel that is not associated with a Brand Account, YouTube says only the owner can perform phone verification.
YouTube lists live streaming among the features available after phone verification. That verification is one step in eligibility, not a guarantee that every channel or account role can start a broadcast. Check the channel’s own Feature eligibility page for its current status; the fact that someone can phone-verify a Brand Account does not establish that they can start a stream.
Requirements by streaming method
| Requirement | General live streaming, including webcam or encoder | Mobile live streaming |
|---|---|---|
| Channel verification | Required | Required |
| Live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days | Must have none | Must have none |
| Minimum creator age | 16 | 16; YouTube’s general live-streaming age rule applies |
| Subscriber minimum | No general threshold stated in YouTube’s cited general requirements | At least 50 |
| First-stream activation timing | No estimate stated in YouTube’s general requirements | May take up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming |
YouTube documents mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as ways to stream. Choosing a webcam or encoder does not bypass channel verification or other eligibility requirements.

How to check and enable access
- Open the channel’s eligibility settings. In YouTube Studio, go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility (also shown as Features in some Studio wording). Review the status for the channel you intend to use.
- Complete phone verification if needed. Follow the verification option in Studio. For a Brand Account, the owner or a manager may phone-verify the channel; for a channel without a Brand Account, YouTube says only the owner may do so.
- Check the general eligibility conditions. The channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet YouTube’s minimum creator age of 16.
- If using the YouTube mobile app, check its extra conditions. The channel needs at least 50 subscribers. After enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for the first mobile stream to become available.
- Recheck Feature eligibility before troubleshooting equipment. A camera, encoder, or console is a broadcast method; it cannot make an ineligible channel eligible.
Why a Brand Account still might not be able to go live
- Phone verification is incomplete: complete the verification flow from Studio using an eligible Brand Account owner or manager.
- The channel is not verified or has a recent restriction: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days for general access.
- You are trying to stream from mobile with fewer than 50 subscribers: mobile has this additional subscriber threshold, even though YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements do not state one.
- The first mobile stream is not available yet: YouTube says activation for the first stream may take up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming.
- The creator does not meet the minimum age: YouTube’s general live-streaming help states that creators must be at least 16.
- Studio appears to show eligibility, but access is still unavailable: use YouTube’s in-product feedback or creator support pathways where available. Public help information cannot determine an individual channel’s account-specific status.
Follow YouTube’s live-streaming rules
YouTube requires live streams to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube’s help information says a live-stream strike prevents streaming for 14 days; creators with an active restriction may not use another channel to evade it. Switching channels or changing equipment is not a legitimate workaround for a restriction.
YouTube also describes additional consequences for streams featuring 13–15-year-olds without a visibly accompanying adult. Review YouTube’s current rules for the people and content in your broadcast before going live.
