For a 1440p, 60 fps YouTube live stream, use 24 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC, or 34 Mbps for H.264, with constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval. Those are YouTube’s recommended incoming-stream settings; the minimums listed are 6 Mbps for AV1/HEVC and 8 Mbps for H.264. Your encoder and venue’s stable upload capacity determine which configuration will work reliably.
Recommended YouTube settings for 1440p60
YouTube Help’s live encoder guidance lists these bitrates for an incoming 1440p, 60 fps stream. They are live-stream encoder recommendations, not settings for uploading a finished video. The source page does not state a publication year; guidance was accessed October 3, 2026.

Use the recommended value when your encoder supports the codec and your connection can sustain it. The minimum is not a target for best quality: it is a lower bound in YouTube’s listed settings. YouTube lists a maximum frame rate of 60 fps and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video over RTMP or RTMPS. It recommends RTMPS, the secure version of RTMP. Set bitrate, keyframes, and audio
Video encoding
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Resolution and frame rate: 1440p at 60 fps, if selecting these manually and your encoder supports them.
- Protocol: RTMPS is YouTube’s recommendation; RTMP is also listed.
For SDR, YouTube’s advanced settings list Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth. The appropriate codec depends on the capabilities of your encoder and the workflow you need; at this resolution and frame rate, YouTube’s recommended bitrate is lower for AV1 and HEVC than for H.264.

Audio
For stereo audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 44.1 kHz at 128 Kbps. For 5.1 surround over RTMP/RTMPS, its guidance says only AAC is supported and recommends 48 kHz at 384 Kbps.
Choose automatic or manual resolution
YouTube’s default recommendation is to let Live Control Room automatically detect resolution and frame rate. If you need to choose a resolution manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under stream resolution. The exact controls may vary with the encoder you use; follow its current interface for entering the stream key and video settings. Check upload capacity before going live
Your upload connection must sustain the selected stream bitrate at the actual streaming location. YouTube advises testing upload bitrate, but does not prescribe a universal upload-speed buffer above the stream bitrate. Treat any extra margin you choose as practical planning, not a YouTube requirement. A speed test is a useful check, but test the stream itself as well.
- At the venue, test the internet connection you will actually use. Choose a bitrate that connection can sustain reliably.
- Before the event, run a private or otherwise appropriate test stream using the intended resolution, frame rate, audio, and representative movement. Check both picture and sound.
- During the broadcast, watch YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and respond to its warnings or messages.
If you are streaming over Wi-Fi and connection stability is a problem, a wired Ethernet connection is an optional setup change worth trying. YouTube does not require a cable or endorse a particular cable type, and wired networking cannot compensate for inadequate upload capacity from your internet service.

Troubleshoot a 1440p60 stream
