For a movie already encoded at 1920×1080 and 24 fps, send it to YouTube Live at that same progressive resolution and frame rate. Set the encoder to CBR with a two-second keyframe interval, use RTMPS when available, and test the actual video and audio before going live. YouTube does not publish a bitrate specifically for 1080p at 24 fps, so its 1080p 30 fps figures are reference points—not exact 24 fps settings.
Recommended encoder settings
Use the source’s actual format rather than converting a 24 fps movie to 30 fps without a reason. YouTube’s general guidance recommends CBR and keyframes every two seconds; keyframes should not be more than four seconds apart. These are setup recommendations, not a guarantee of identical picture quality for every encode or connection. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, with AAC or MP3 audio.

Choosing a bitrate when YouTube has no 24 fps row
YouTube’s published bitrate table does not give a value for 1080p at 24 fps. Its nearest listed H.264 reference is 1080p at 30 fps: 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. For AV1 or H.265, the 1080p 30 fps row lists 4 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended. Those figures apply to 30 fps; using them for a 24 fps movie is an informed starting point, not a bitrate YouTube specifically recommends for 24 fps.

Test the loop at the chosen bitrate rather than treating a table value as a guarantee. The best usable setting depends on the encode, the content’s motion and detail, and the available upload capacity. YouTube recommends checking upload speed and stream health, and testing with audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast. Read YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table.

Configure the stream and test it
- Prepare the source and encoder. Confirm that the movie is 1920×1080 progressive at 24 fps if that is its actual format. Set CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, a supported video codec, and AAC or MP3 audio.
- Get the ingest details from YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the live stream. Choose the RTMPS URL when your encoder supports RTMPS.
- Keep automatic format detection unless you need manual control. YouTube detects resolution and frame rate automatically by default. To set resolution manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution in Live Control Room. YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks. YouTube explains automatic detection and manual resolution settings here.
- Check upload capacity and run a representative test. YouTube specifically recommends including audio and movement like the planned stream, not only a static or silent test. Check that the loop plays cleanly and that the encoder can sustain the selected bitrate.
- Start the broadcast and watch stream health. Monitor the Live Control Room indicators while live; respond to warnings or instability rather than assuming a successful test guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.
Clear movie and music rights before streaming
Only stream a movie and soundtrack for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube’s livestream terms say the content provider represents and warrants that it has the necessary rights for the live content’s use on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. Read YouTube’s livestream terms.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. If you are licensed to use third-party content, YouTube says to ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without that, a licensed stream may still be interrupted. Copyright permission is not a monetization guarantee
Having permission to stream a movie does not automatically make a channel eligible to earn from it. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams, and its reused-content policy can cover material repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The reused-content assessment is separate from copyright enforcement, so owning or licensing the movie alone is not a basis to promise YouTube Partner Program monetization. Troubleshooting common problems
- The encoder cannot connect: Recheck the server URL and stream key copied from Live Control Room, confirm that the selected ingest protocol matches the URL, and verify that the encoder supports the chosen codec and protocol.
- The picture stutters or the stream health degrades: Check whether the upload connection can sustain the configured bitrate, then test again with representative movement and audio. YouTube’s 1080p 30 fps bitrate figures are not 24 fps guarantees; adjust based on the actual test and stream-health feedback.
- The broadcast has the wrong resolution or frame rate: Confirm the encoder is sending 1920×1080 progressive at 24 fps. YouTube detects format automatically by default; if manual selection is needed, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution in Live Control Room.
- YouTube displays a copyright placeholder or interrupts the stream: Stop and resolve the rights issue. If you have a license for the detected material, ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID; a license by itself does not prevent an interruption.
