If YouTube Live Control Room warns that your incoming audio bitrate is too low, check the encoder’s audio settings first. For stereo, YouTube recommends 128 Kbps at 44.1 kHz; the language of the playlist does not call for a different bitrate. Preview the stream after changing the settings and confirm that YouTube’s warning clears.
What the low audio bitrate warning means
The warning concerns the audio bitrate YouTube is receiving from your encoder. It is not a request to raise the video bitrate. YouTube’s error guidance notes that an audio bitrate below or above its recommendation can be reported as incorrect, so use the value for your audio format rather than simply increasing it. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages and encoder settings guidance.

A Hindi playlist does not need a language-specific audio bitrate in the YouTube guidance. The recommendations are based on audio configuration—stereo or 5.1—not whether the songs or commentary are in Hindi. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance does not establish a separate Hindi bitrate.
Use the recommendation for your audio format
| Audio format | Recommended bitrate | Sample rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 128 Kbps | 44.1 kHz | For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. |
| 5.1 surround | 384 Kbps | 48 kHz | YouTube lists AAC for 5.1 over RTMP/RTMPS. |
These are YouTube’s recommended settings, not a language-based distinction. Its encoder settings also recommend constant bitrate (CBR). For most playlist streams configured for stereo, set audio to 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. Do not apply the stereo values to a deliberately configured 5.1 stream. Fix the warning step by step
- Open the encoder’s audio output settings. Locate the outgoing stream’s audio bitrate—not the video bitrate—and set it to 128 Kbps if the stream is stereo. If you intentionally send 5.1 surround, use YouTube’s 384 Kbps and 48 kHz recommendation instead.
- Check sample rate and channel count. Set stereo to 44.1 kHz. Confirm the output is mono or stereo as intended; YouTube’s error guidance says one or two audio channels are supported and warns that multiple audio streams can cause ingestion problems.
- Check codec and stream structure. For RTMP or RTMPS, use AAC or MP3 for stereo; 5.1 is listed with AAC. Ensure the encoder is sending one audio stream, and that audio is actually present. Unsupported codecs, no audio stream, multiple audio streams, or an unsupported channel count can cause errors.
- Apply the settings and run a test. Use audio and video similar to the actual playlist stream. Check the preview in Live Control Room and monitor Stream health while the test is live. YouTube recommends testing and previewing before the event; see Streaming tips.
- Verify the warning, not just the encoder display. Keep Live Control Room open after the change and check whether the specific audio warning clears. The Stream health area shows status and error messages; YouTube says errors are timestamped and recur while unresolved. Red errors are critical, while yellow errors are moderate. See Live streaming error messages.
If the warning persists, isolate the source
Check what the encoder is actually sending
Listen to the encoder output and, if available, a local recording. Review encoder errors and CPU load. A local recording that is also quiet, distorted, or intermittent points toward the source, routing, or encoder configuration; a clean local recording does not by itself prove the live ingest is healthy.
Investigate the connection separately
If the encoder output and local recording sound healthy but the live stream remains unhealthy, test outbound internet speed and consider whether other devices or applications are sharing the connection. Network instability can affect the overall stream. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the internet connection and working with the ISP if the connection appears problematic: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.

For the specific low-audio-bitrate message, start with the encoded audio bitrate and stream structure; do not treat an internet upgrade or a higher video bitrate as the first fix.
RTMP/RTMPS and HLS are not interchangeable settings
The steps above use YouTube’s general RTMP/RTMPS encoder recommendations. If you are using HLS, consult YouTube’s separate HLS setup requirements: its listed audio support additionally includes AC3 and EAC3, while the same 128 Kbps stereo and 384 Kbps 5.1 recommendations apply. HLS also has protocol-specific segment and playlist requirements, and YouTube describes its latency as higher than continuous RTMP ingestion. Do not change protocols just to address a bitrate warning; first make sure the audio settings match the protocol you actually use.

Read the health status and metrics in context
Live Control Room’s Stream health panel is the place to verify whether the incoming stream has recovered. It provides stream status and real-time metrics; post-stream analytics become available in YouTube Analytics within minutes after the stream ends. See YouTube’s live stream metrics guide. A warning that recurs with a timestamp is still unresolved even if the audio seems audible to a viewer.
