Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

That distinction determines what to check next. YouTube’s guidance covers stream health, encoder settings, network conditions, and viewer latency, but does not identify one universal cause or guaranteed fix for gradual sync drift.
Find where the audio and video first go out of sync
Compare the same moment at each stage of your workflow. YouTube recommends checking stream accessibility and the integrity of a local archive; using those checks to locate drift is a diagnostic approach, not a YouTube-published drift test.

- Check the source before encoding. If the video or playlist is already out of sync, investigate its playback and audio routing before changing YouTube settings.
- Inspect a local recording, if your workflow makes one. If it is out of sync too, the problem is likely upstream of YouTube playback: check the source, routing, and encoder timing.
- Compare with the YouTube live player. If only the live player appears out of sync, check playback and network conditions and try another device or connection.
- Check the post-stream archive. If the live player was in sync but the archive is not, inspect the recording or archive path.
Keep the comparison tied to the same point in the loop. A stream that is simply delayed for a viewer is not necessarily experiencing audio/video drift.

Run a representative test and monitor stream health
Before relying on a long loop, test with audio and movement similar to the actual stream. YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring stream quality and Live Control Room messages during the event. For a long-running loop, sample the beginning and later points so you can identify when any drift starts; this sampling schedule is practical guidance, not an official YouTube requirement.

- Watch the Live Control Room for stream health statuses and specific error messages.
- Monitor audio and video during the stream, rather than judging only by the archive afterward.
- Note when the problem begins and whether it is reproducible on another device or connection.
These observations help distinguish a source or encoder problem from a delivery or viewer playback issue. YouTube’s live-streaming tips describe testing and monitoring; its live metrics guidance covers health information in Live Control Room.
Check the encoder without assuming one setting will fix drift
Verify that audio and video are entering the intended encoder inputs and that the source is not losing sync before it reaches the encoder. YouTube’s general encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS streams and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with intervals no longer than four seconds.

- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
These are baseline settings, not a proven cure for progressive audio/video drift. Record the current settings and change one relevant setting at a time, then test again. Avoid treating a keyframe change as a diagnosis if the source or local recording is already out of sync. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and encoder setup guidance.
Check upload stability and distinguish buffering from sync drift
YouTube recommends keeping total stream bitrate below available upload bandwidth, with about 20% headroom. It also warns that connectivity disruptions can break a stream. Check whether your connection remains stable and whether the stream’s total bitrate leaves that recommended margin.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Network conditions can cause buffering or delivery delay. Those symptoms are different from audio and video gradually separating relative to each other. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth and connection issues.
Change latency only for the delivery trade-off
YouTube defines stream latency as the delay between a camera capturing an event and the event appearing for viewers. Lower latency reduces the player’s read-ahead buffer, which can increase buffering or make encoder and player issues more apparent. Choose latency based on how much audience interaction matters compared with buffering tolerance; normal latency is aimed at non-interactive streams, while lower settings trade buffer for responsiveness.

A latency change affects delivery delay and buffering behavior. YouTube’s guidance does not say that changing latency corrects audio gradually drifting relative to video. See Understand live streaming latency and playback troubleshooting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose the next adjustment from the evidence
- Drift is present in the source or local recording: investigate source playback, audio routing, and encoder timing.
- Drift first appears between encoder output and YouTube: review encoder settings and health messages, and note network conditions around the onset.
- Only one device or connection shows the issue: investigate that viewer’s playback and network conditions before changing the source.
- Only the archive differs: inspect the archive or recording path.
The specific fix depends on where the drift first appears and what the encoder, source, routing, and playback evidence show. YouTube’s audio and video out-of-sync help concerns uploaded videos: it explains that mismatched audio/video track durations can desynchronize an upload, but that does not establish the cause of drift in a live loop.
