YouTube Live Encoder Settings for a 24/7 Rain Sounds Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a static rain scene with continuous stereo audio, start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 video at 14 Mbps, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. YouTube lists 14 Mbps as the recommended 1080p30 H.264 bitrate and 5 Mbps as the minimum; 5 Mbps is not the recommended target. Use a lower-resolution profile if your upload connection cannot reliably sustain the higher rate, then test the actual loop and monitor YouTube’s stream health.

Recommended starting settings

These settings are a practical starting profile, not a guarantee of uptime or a computer-specific validation. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. It supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video, up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data into and through Google’s servers. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance has the full current table.

Setting Starting value Why it fits a rain stream
Resolution and frame rate 1080p, 30 fps A static rain visual generally does not need 60 fps; choose a lower resolution if your connection needs a lighter stream.
Video codec H.264 A supported, widely used encoder option in YouTube’s guidance.
Video rate control CBR YouTube recommends constant bitrate.
Video bitrate 14 Mbps recommended; 5 Mbps minimum for 1080p30 H.264 The minimum is not the recommended target. These are YouTube encoder figures, not household internet-speed requirements.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
Audio AAC, stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps These are the published stereo audio settings; YouTube also lists MP3 as an audio option.
Ingest protocol RTMPS recommended YouTube describes RTMPS as a secure extension that encrypts data into and through Google’s servers.

Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain

YouTube’s recommended video bitrate changes with codec, resolution, and frame rate. For two common 30 fps profiles, its current guidance accessed in 2026 gives these values:

Profile Minimum video bitrate Recommended video bitrate
1080p30, H.264 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p30, AV1 or H.265 4 Mbps 10 Mbps
720p30, H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p30, AV1 or H.265 2 Mbps 6 Mbps

These are encoder bitrate recommendations, not the upload speed your internet plan must advertise. Your connection needs enough stable upload capacity for the video and audio, with headroom for normal variation. Run a realistic upload test and verify the stream under the conditions in which it will operate. If the connection fluctuates, step down resolution and use the matching bitrate recommendation instead of trying to push a rate it cannot maintain. YouTube’s table includes other resolutions and frame rates; check it for the exact profile you plan to use.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

For rain footage, 30 fps is usually a reasonable editorial choice because a static scene has little meaningful motion. That is a content-based recommendation, not a YouTube requirement. Choose 60 fps only if the visual has motion that benefits from the extra frame rate and your connection can sustain the corresponding profile.

Configure and test the stream before relying on it

  1. Set the encoder profile. In your encoder, choose 1080p30 H.264, CBR, 14 Mbps video, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Select RTMPS when your encoder offers it. If you need a manual resolution choice in YouTube Live Control Room, YouTube’s guidance describes using a custom stream key and enabling manual settings.
  2. Test the real content. Send the actual rain audio loop and visual, including transitions and loop points, before starting the long broadcast. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
  3. Check the stream health messages. YouTube normally detects incoming resolution and frame rate automatically. Review Live Control Room health indicators and messages during the test and broadcast rather than assuming a preset is healthy. YouTube’s health diagnostics include audio bitrate configuration issues, GOP configuration issues, and warnings when it is not receiving enough video for smooth streaming. See the YouTube Live Streaming API stream health documentation.
  4. Adjust based on evidence. If health indicators or the encoder show instability, lower the bitrate or choose a lower-resolution profile your connection can sustain, then test again. YouTube transcodes incoming streams into viewer formats for different devices and networks.

Keep the network and encoder stable

OBS recommends testing settings for a few minutes before relying on a stream. Its troubleshooting guidance connects dropped frames or intermittent disconnections with network instability or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Lowering the bitrate can help when the connection is the bottleneck. OBS also recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one way to connect by wire; Ethernet can remove Wi-Fi as a possible source of instability, but no cable guarantees uninterrupted service.

Plan separately for archives and viewer rewind

A continuous 24/7 broadcast should not rely on YouTube’s automatic live archive for a complete recording. YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours and warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a full copy matters, record a separate local archive and plan enough storage for it. YouTube explicitly advises: “We recommend recording a local archive as a backup.” Read YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
