Recommended YouTube Live settings for 1080p30
Choose the bitrate for the codec your encoder will use. YouTube’s live-stream guidance, checked on October 3, 2026, gives these settings:

These figures apply to 1080p at 30 fps for live streaming. Use AV1 or H.265 figures only if your encoder supports the codec you select. YouTube’s separate settings for uploading prerecorded videos are for a different workflow and should not be substituted here.

The encoder bitrate is the rate configured for the video stream. Your internet upload speed is the capacity available to send that stream from your location. The stream needs a stable upload connection that can sustain the configured bitrate; an advertised plan speed alone does not confirm that it will.

ACT’s Bengaluru broadband page, checked October 3, 2026, says its Bengaluru Wi-Fi plans have equal upload and download speeds and advertises tiers from 50 Mbps to 1 Gbps. This is provider information for Bengaluru, not a verified speed for every ACT customer, location, or plan. It does not establish your actual upload performance at stream time. If you are outside Bengaluru, check ACT’s plans for your own city rather than applying those Bengaluru figures.
How to set up and test the stream
- Choose 1080p and 30 fps in your streaming encoder, then select the video codec it will use: H.264, AV1, or H.265.
- Set the matching video bitrate. Use YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps for H.264 or 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265. The listed minimums are 5 Mbps and 4 Mbps, respectively, but a minimum is not the recommended target.
- Use CBR bitrate mode. YouTube recommends constant bitrate for the stream.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Choose RTMPS if available. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS for encryption in transit.
- Test upload capacity from the computer and network you will use. YouTube recommends testing the upload bitrate and representative stream conditions; an advertised ACT tier does not replace this check.
- Rehearse with representative content. Include movement and audio similar to the intended broadcast. During the live event, monitor YouTube’s stream health and any messages it displays.
Common bitrate and connection problems
- The stream buffers or health warnings appear: the available upload may not be sustaining the configured stream. Test again from the streaming setup and check the connection during a representative rehearsal.
- The encoder cannot select AV1 or H.265: use a codec supported by your encoder, then set the bitrate for that codec. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps.
- The plan advertises enough speed, but the stream is unstable: plan advertising does not measure performance at stream time. Test from the actual location and device; the Bengaluru equal-speed statement is not a guarantee for every customer.
- The keyframe interval is longer than four seconds: change it to YouTube’s recommended two seconds, ensuring it does not exceed four seconds.
