Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If a YouTube gaming livestream rerun freezes as one VOD ends and another begins, first find out whether the problem follows one video, every transition, a device, or an internet connection. Retry the affected video, lower playback quality, compare another device and connection, and restart or update the app. A freeze at a live-to-replay boundary alone does not establish that DVR caused it.
First identify where playback is failing
“Between VODs” can describe different situations: a queued video stops before the next one starts, a live stream freezes before its replay is available, or a particular recording freezes near the end. Those patterns do not point to the same cause. Before changing settings, note exactly what happens and where.

- Does the same VOD freeze at the same point when you reopen it?
- Does the problem occur at every transition, or only after one particular stream?
- Do unrelated YouTube videos also freeze?
- Does the picture freeze while audio continues, or do both stop?
- Can another viewer reproduce it, or does it happen only on your device?
This is a way to narrow the possibilities, not a guaranteed fault diagnosis.
Try viewer-side fixes in order
1. Reopen the video and lower its quality
Reload or reopen the affected VOD and select a lower playback quality manually. If that video works while other videos do not—or the same video still stops at the same timestamp—record the difference for troubleshooting. YouTube recommends adjusting playback quality for playback problems. YouTube playback troubleshooting

2. Compare another connection
Try the same video over a different internet connection, if available. If it plays there, that is useful evidence that the issue may be associated with the original connection; it does not prove which part of the connection is responsible. YouTube’s guidance includes switching connections as a troubleshooting step. YouTube playback troubleshooting
3. Test another supported device or playback route
Try the video on another supported device. If you are watching on a TV, YouTube also suggests testing another playback route, such as casting from another device or connecting a laptop by HDMI. If playback works elsewhere, note the device and app that fail rather than assuming the recording itself is defective. YouTube playback troubleshooting
4. Restart and update the app or device
Close and reopen the YouTube app, restart the device, and install available app or system updates. These are among YouTube’s recommended playback troubleshooting steps. YouTube playback troubleshooting

5. Report a problem that persists
If the freeze continues, use YouTube’s Help and Feedback option to report it after it happens. Include the video link and timestamp, device and app, selected quality, and whether you reproduced the issue on another device. Those details make the report more specific; they are practical suggestions, not stated requirements from YouTube.
Understand live DVR and replay timing
Live DVR is a viewer control for pausing, rewinding, and continuing within a live stream; it is not, by itself, an explanation for a freeze when moving from a live broadcast to a replay. YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, and the viewing device or app may impose a lower limit. YouTube Help: DVR on live streams
The YouTube Live Streaming API likewise describes DVR controls such as pause, rewind, and fast-forward. It also explains that a completed broadcast is converted into a YouTube video and may not be available immediately; the delay depends on stream length. That makes replay availability a separate consideration from whether a VOD itself freezes. YouTube Live Streaming API: broadcasts

Do not assume a broadcast-delay setting is the fix for a gaming rerun. YouTube’s statement that lower broadcast delay means less player buffer appears in its Primetime Channels guidance; it should not be generalized into a setting available or appropriate for every gaming livestream. When the channel owner should check stream health
If multiple viewers report the same problem, or the original live broadcast also appeared unhealthy, ask the channel owner to inspect the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and review its stream health. Viewer-side testing and creator-side stream diagnostics address different parts of the problem, so this split can guide the next check without guaranteeing where the fault lies.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents stream configuration issues including codec and bitrate problems, mismatches between primary and backup streams, and keyframes sent more than four seconds apart. Its documentation warns that keyframes should be four seconds apart or less and that longer intervals can cause buffering. These are broadcast-side checks for the channel owner, not settings a viewer can change in the YouTube player. YouTube Live Streaming API: stream health
